Ancient Beliefs and UFOs
UFOBy Oddthings

The Anasazi were the predecessors to the modern day Hopi, and are believed to have settled the American Southwest as long as 3,000 years ago, although their heritage has been traced back much further than that. Modern day scientific classification only recognizes the people there as a distinct culture starting in 1200 BC.

This is considered to be the beginning of the "Basketmaker" era, and the beginning of the Anasazi culture itself, as a distinct culture. However, the "archaic" classification traces the people themselves back to approximately 8000 BC, currently, and continues to be pushed back further as more scientific evidence is gathered. Just recently a scientific expedition has begun in the hopes of collecting evidence of long lost civilizations under water off of the east coast of the United States.

The Hopi, in particular, have maintained many ancient traditions and beliefs throughout the years, much of which has been publicized as "The Hopi Prophecies" on the internet and in books.

In short, the Hopi believe that we are currently in the fourth age of man. Each age ends in a cleansing of sorts, and that now we are nearing the Purification Day. The first age was ended in fire, the second in ice, and the third from a flood. This most recent cleansing coming approximately 11,000-12,000 years ago. Since the people have currently been traced back over 10,000 years in the American southwest, this date seems to make cultural sense, and also may tie into the Mayan tradition which says that one of the Gods destroyed the third creation in a great flood and we are now living in the fourth creation. This exactly mirrors the Pueblo belief in which the third world is ended in a flood by one of their gods and only a few people are rescued and are able to move on into the fourth world.

This idea of a great flood also seems to make some sense to people raised in the western world, since so many were raised with the Bible, which, of course, has a quite famous flood itself. Interestingly, this also ties in with the stories told in the ancient stories from India, specifically the Ramayana, which tells of major "Earth shifts" approximately every 10,000 years. Along with this, it dates the last Treta Yuga, or the ending of one of the "age(s) of man", at 10,000BC. Of course, this matches up remarkably well with the Hopi idea of the last cleansing having come 12,000 years ago and approaching again in the not too distant future.

In fact, most every society worldwide, not just in the Americas, have some sort of flood myth. Most, however, don't give as specific of time references as these above do. For instance, the Toltec story simply states that the original creation lasted for 1716 years before being destroyed by a great flood. While it's interesting that they put such a definitive length of time on it, it's fairly ambiguous as to how long ago the flood is said to have happened.

Star Cities Map by Gary David

Author Gary David has done some fabulous writing and research about the ancient "star cities" of the Anasazi. These star cities are villages and settlements which are mapped out precisely mirroring various constellations. The one shown above mirrors the constellation of Orion. One would think that they would have had to have very good reasoning for going to such great lengths to mirror the heavens here on earth so precisely in what must have been a fairly difficult task. In fact, Mr. David says that this was mandated by a god called Masau'u. Masau'u is the Hopi god of death, fire, darkness and war, along with being the ruler of the underworld. One version of his story tells that he is the creator of the Hopi, and he determines life and death. Obviously, a very powerful belief.

In an article written by Philip Coppens on Mayan sacred architecture, he also states that they believe that what they call the "Fourth Creation" to be linked with the Orion constellation. In their ancient tradition after one of the gods destroyed the Third Creation with a great flood they arrived at the place of the New Creation and "sprang up from a crack in the back of a Cosmic Turtle." They identify this turtle with the three stars which create the belt of Orion in the constellation. Obviously, this story very neatly ties together the flood myth and the Orion constellation.

So why do these cultures, as well as the pyramid builders in Egypt who aligned their great pyramids with Orion's belt, attach such special significance to Orion in relation to "gods"? Is it possible that advanced societies visiting Earth have been mistaken for "gods" in history, and the myths have simply been passed along into the modern day? How does that tie into the flood mythology? Is it possible that whatever cataclysm occurred 12,000 years ago is connected to these visitors? The following petroglyphs seem to speak to the possibility of visitation in the very distant past right here in the Americas.

Dome petroglyph #1

Dome petroglyph #2

One of the interesting pieces of the information contained in the ancient Hopi beliefs, is a knowledge of aliens, many times called "Star Brothers," along with space ships, or UFOs. Evidence of these beliefs can be found in many petroglyphs across the American southwest. Above, is a depiction of a dome shaped, saucer object which is said to depict visitors from space who will arrive for the Purification.

First of three small rock drawings Second of three small rock drawings Third of three small rock drawings

The three depictions above are of star beings, and triangle shaped crafts. The ship is seen with flares coming out of it, which seems to represent its propulsion and movement. The first picture supposedly represents an ancient war witnessed by the local population between two different types of star beings and seems to show the two figures fighting.

Helmet Figure #1

Helmet figure #2

The two petroglyphs above seem to depict a UFO along with beings which seem to have helmets covering their heads, much like modern day astronauts. The one on the right also seems to have some sort of dome shaped craft depicted. These are dated at 12,000-14,000 years ago.

Ant people

This petroglyph is said by some to represent the Ant People. In the Hopi belief at the end of each of the ages, the people who were pure of heart went down into the earth. There they described a group of beings which they called the Ant People. Many depictions of them are nearly identical to modern day description of gray aliens. In the bottom right of the image something which looks like a dome shape is seen with lines coming out of the bottom of it, making it look like it's lifting off of the ground. This is dated at approximately 7,500 years old.

Most of the information for this article came from reading I've done on various internet sites which I found on-line over the years and reading books I've picked up. I'd also like to point out that I believe most of these examples are available on UFO Artwork, although I've found them other places over the years.

Great job, Dustin! You collected some interesting information here and presented it in a clear and compelling fashion. Thanks!

The ancient Puebloan people as well as the Maya certainly did have an extraordinary interest in the celestial realm, didn't they? The idea of UFOs did not have the negative cultural bias that we (at least some of us) seem to have today. The Hopi call them paatuvota, or "flying shields."

You mentioned Ant People at the end of your article. If anyone is interested in seeing other petroglyphs depicting these creatures, please go to the article on my site.

Hmmmm, well, I tried replying to both of you, and my comments never showed up. Never a dull day around here! :-)

Anyway, I really do appreciate both of your comments, and I have a couple more articles in the works, so hopefully this won't be my only article. I find the study of ancient history to be absolutely fascinating, and I really do hope to devote more time to it.

I found your article to be very interesting and am wondering if the star brothers may be the ANNUNAKI, because the time frame of 10,000 - 12,000 years corresponds with the theory of Planet X or NIBIRU.A bit more research and I think you'll really be on to something.GOOD LUCK!

Wow! I knew about the Pyramid builders in the Middle East, and the pyramids in Peru all orientate to Orion... Now we learn that the Hopi also had such knowledge. The more I learn, the further from organized religion I get... Seems most of what we have accepted for the past too many hundreds of years, is nothing but a plot to control us. I very much enjoyed reading the subject above - looking forward to learning more.

Very well done Dustin. :)

It's fascinating that these ancient civilizations knew so much more than us 'techologically advanced' people of today. Orion being known on the N. and S. Americas and Sirius being known on the African continent by the Dogans.

Purhaps, one day, when we let go of the technological and embrass the wonders of the universe, we'll be able to join the cosmos again.

Great article OT!

THoTH and Kira. Thank you very much. Praise coming from you two means a lot around these parts. :)

Mark, thank you for your kind words. I'd decided long before I wrote this article that I'd be doing a full article on what happened 12,000 years ago, and while I certainly don't have any definitive evidence of anything, I think there's some compelling arguments to be made. Keep an eye out for that article before the book competition ends, for sure.

Airman, I certainly tend to think that people have been purposefully mislead on what happened in the distant past. For what purpose, I really don't know, but I think it's a great question that leads to a lot of interesting information.

WOW Dustin! Well done. You really put things together well. The evidence and related history is so spread out, so it is nice to see your article bring some of these concepts together. Looking forward to seeing more articles from you on these subjects. You really do have lots to share :)
