Lonecat in Orbit 14 |
 Hello, everybody. This is Lonecat still in orbit, orbit number 14 in fact, taking measurements and keeping and eye on what is taking place in our Solar System but also keeping a star-gazers' eye out for things further afield. Here is my report back to Earth for this week.
I have often wondered if the so-called "paranormal", or what I call "fringe-reality events" is peculiar to Earth. Could the Earth's magnetic field, which swings out like a comet's tail away from the Sun, make the night-side of the planet significantly more prone to the manifestation of ghosts and Poltergeists than the "Day-side" or side turned towards the Sun and have something to do with phenomena from other dimensions? We may never know, but the following article is interesting and may help to clarify the matter:
SATURNIAN HALLOWEEN

THE REAL- ESTATE IS OUT THERE...ON MERCURY
I would never have imagined that Mercury could be such an interesting planet. It just goes to show...

BOEING 747 AIRCRAFT TUNED INTO INFRA-RED TELESCOPE
Boeing telescope? Yes, actually. The flying observatory will begin its short science, or "first light" observations, in early summer 2009, and will continue its program of celestial observations for the next 20 years.

NEAREST PLANETARY SYSTEM HAS TWO ASTEROID BELTS
New observations from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope indicate that the nearest planetary system to our own has two asteroid belts. Our own solar system has just one.
MARS OBSERVED TO HAVE BEEN WET LONGER
This discovery suggests that liquid water remained on the planet’s surface a billion years later than scientists believed, and it played an important role in shaping the planet’s surface and possibly hosting life.

HOAXES IN SCIENCE
We have all probably heard talk of scientific hoaxes in our. Sometimes they were cases of people wanting to humilliate scientists by leading them astray as in the case of the Piltdown Man and at other times it was the scientists themselves trying distort the truth in order to make "facts" fit their own theories. However, we are still close to October the 30th and there is an interesting anniversary of a scientific Hoax back in 1938, ( when I was one year old). In reality, I do not believe this to have been a willful Hoax as such. People just took it the wrong way. I refer to the famaous panic in the United State when Orson Welles broadcast his version of H.G.Wells's masterful novel "THE WAR OF THE WORLDS" on the radio. You don't remember this?

LOOKING DOWN ON THE GREAT AFRICAN LAKES
I'm not really sure when I should stop thinking in terms looking "down" on Earth from orbit and start thinking of "over there" at Earth. I think I am far enough "out" here, nearly halfway to the Moon to stop thinking of Earth as down. Anyway here is that picture of the lakes in the Great Rift Valley.

A WITCH BY STARLIGHT
