Strange Occurrences At Our Home |
Written By Dawn
I thought I would share a few ongoing occurrences that my family and I have experienced in our new home. Well, it's new to us, but the house was built about 35 years or so ago. We bought the house about three years ago.
Shortly after moving in, I was locked out several times while carrying groceries into the house. Each occurrence was the same. I'd unlock the door after returning from the store, bring in my purse and my first load of bags. I'd then return to the car for a second load of groceries, and the front door to the house would be re-locked. Luckily, I have several spares hidden around the property. This happened three or four times, then it stopped. Months go by, then we went out of town for the annual family trek to the Alamo, and we entrust two of our close friends to house sit for us while we were away. The same thing happened to them several times in the span of two days. But stopped after we returned. The doorbell would also ring for no reason, several times a week. This lasted for a couple of months, then stopped. My husband's office overlooks our front porch and he keeps his blinds open, but never saw anyone.
Again, months go by with nothing strange occurring, until one night. It was rather late, everyone was in bed except for me and my son, who was 3 at the time. I decided to whip us up a late night snack of toast and country gravy. When I finished cooking and had made our plates, I put a lid on the remaining gravy and I put the ladle, which I'd used to spoon out the gravy, on the stove to clean up later. We both headed to the television/play room, when we heard a fairly loud noise. I went back to investigate, and found the ladle lying in the dining room floor, I guess about 15 feet from the stove. I'd left it lying flat on the stove, but apparently it had flown to the next room.
Several weeks go by and I'm at the local feed store picking up a few things when I run into the local real estate agent. She knew we had been looking for a house several months previously, and asked us if we ever found anything. I told her we ended up buying a house directly from the owner and told her where the house was. She cocked her head little and said, "Oh, Oh, That's the house that," and she stopped dead in her tracks, turned around and started talking to someone else. She was obviously nervous talking about our house, willing to be rude, instead of finishing her sentence.
Time passes, a month or two go by. My husband was in the kitchen heating up something in the microwave. I'm in the play room watching TV, when I hear a loud crash, followed by my husband's loud, but shaky voice "DAWNA!!!" Of course, I get up and go see what's going on. My husband is standing in the kitchen, looking into the dining room at one of my small Egyptian busts broken into several pieces on the floor. Originally, the piece had been setting about five feet above the stove, on top of the cabinet. Like the ladle, it appeared to have been thrown across the room. My husband's first words after calling me were, "I did NOT do that!" followed by "Was that one of your good ones?" Meaning, was the bust special. I smiled and said, "No, I think I paid a dollar for it at the Dollar Store, and I know you didn't do it. You would have needed a ladder to reach it." My husband becomes convinced that an unseen force, with bad aim, is trying to assault him with cheap knick knacks.
A short time later, we had friends over for our weekly Friday night dinner and I was telling them about the knick knack incident, when a pot of food starts shaking on the stove. It shakes to the point that water is spilling over a little on the sides.
Since then, we've only had small occurrences, nothing very notable or as physical as the previous incidents. I've seen movement out of the corner of my eye dozens of times while sitting in the playroom. Heard noises in the kitchen when no one was around. We also had four framed pictures fall off the walls within a month, but it's possible that it was because of shabby framing. I've since re-framed them in nice high quality frames and haven't had problems since. Everyone else insists that it can't be coincidence that they all fell off so close together, about one a week, until the whole set had fallen. I've seen shadows in my bedroom twice at night, where no shadows should be.
While it sounds like we have a lot of weird things going on, the occurrences are spaced out, so that it's not scary, and we don't think about it much at all, unless something has just occurred. Most of the incidents were just mild irritations, except for the shadows. Those were spooky, I'll admit.
Last week though, Ramses, my 2 year old and I were up late while everyone else was asleep. Being two, he hasn't yet mastered the art of speaking, so he communicates the best he can. I was sitting at the computer, while he was dancing around the room watching cartoons. The room started to feel a little colder than usual, and I was about to get up and grab my robe when he started babbling about something. He climbed up in my lap, put both hands on each side of my face and forcefully turned my head to the corner of the room. I said "what's wrong?" He pointed to the corner of the room. I didn't see anything, but he kept pointing and babbling. It was unnerving to say the least. Then, my new puppy, a little Jack Russell named "Roo" got out of her bed and tried to get in my lap too. She looked in the corner too and whined for a second, then started to bark while looking at the corner. They both acted agitated for about 30 seconds, then Roo got back in her bed, and Ramses climbed down and resumed watching cartoons.
Now, I know what your first question is. Have we investigated the history of the house? Not officially. But we do know that a young girl while living at the house, was killed in a car wreck. That's the extent of our knowledge, but I think it's enough. I wouldn't mind knowing her name, but I'm reluctant to do any official investigating, simply because we live in a very small town, and people talk. I don't want our house to be known as the haunted house, which I think would be disturbing for our children. I want them to feel safe, and not get harassed at school. I'm fairly certain, that if I were to go to City Hall or the library inquiring about the previous residents, asking about the deceased girl, they would put two and two together, and the rumor mill would start turning.
Just thought I'd share. I also wanted to document the occurrences for future reference, particularly if anything else happens, or if the events become more frequent. Let's hope they don't, or if they do, it stays mild.

I'm a natural psychic, clairvoyant, and medium, and I've lived with and dealt with many ghosts.
I was able to quiet the ghosts at my 1914 Burbank, CA house by researching it's entire history.
I checked building codes, and it helped to see who had taken out permits, etc..
I "perceived" who it might be that kept walking in and rearranging everything.
It does seem that identification helps a lot in calming them down.
Good luck with it, |
