Smudge of The Mind?

The Blog of THoTHOk first things first, this is going to be a new thing for me, I'll try and make sure I share thoughts on a regular basis. Length of these textual anomalies may be varied lol. Some introductory preamble is needed I think, so that you can acclimatise to the newness of it all.

What I intend to do (anagram of nintendo?) is put my thoughts to paper as it were, with the purpose of:

a) sharing and hoping to encourage others to do the same
b) an exercise in removing some of them temporarily from the crowd that's in there
c) tracking the flow of my own reasoning
d) getting feedback on ideas expressed.

Be warned though, I don't always take things, or myself that seriously, so these subjects will vary wildly!

Right, preamble over, the first thing I want to do is talk about a cat. "Smudge" to be precise, I have three cats in all, and as any cat owner will tell you they all have distinct personalities. Smudge I would say is the explorer among them, always wanting to be out. Recently, when she was sat at my side, I shone a key ring light on the wall to gauge her reaction. Needless to say, she found it very interesting indeed, and tried to capture it several times.Nothing odd there I hear you say, and rightly so.

Smudgey!

However, after several weeks, she still goes back to the same spot and gazes for long periods of time, no doubt waiting for this to happen again. Her reasons for wanting to see it again, are her own I can't second guess those, but cats and curiosity go hand in hand I guess. So what's interesting about this?

Could it be that in smudges mind, she's had a cataparanormal experience? Something outside of her fence of what's considered rational? Maybe, maybe not, but what I'm trying to say is that the similarities between her behaviour, and people when confronted by the paranormal are evident. The difference being that, whereas she visits the same spot to see the same thing, with people word gets out and others also want the same experience. You'll find this in famous haunted places, with groups ever vigilant wanting to see the ghost of whomever. Or UFO hotspots, people will visit those, or be more vigilant if they live there and something has been reported. The reason? fascination with the "unknown" no doubt, and wanting direct experience of something paranormal. Another reason people may have is to "confirm" in their own minds that their previous experiences were real.

Anyone who has had a genuine experience of the paranormal will know the feelings of that experience, but over time, that feeling can be lost, or worse still doubted. Did I see something? or is my memory playing tricks with me about what really happened? I use the words "genuine experience" sincerely, because sometimes no one likes to admit that some weird experiences are not actually weird, and there is or was a perfectly rational explanation. We must leave personal expectation out of the equation when we evaluate the paranormal, because it can cloud an overall better judgement.

To give you some idea of that, I used to regularly skywatch at night. Any night it was clear I was out there for hours and hours, watching the heavens looking for anomalistic behaviour. Guess what? I saw some amazing things, and on a number of occasions. The clincher is though, that almost all of the time, the only unusual things I saw were satellites and aircraft exercises which after a while became uninteresting. If my approach was different, I could have thought anything that moved and lit up was a UFO. But what would be the point? Look at how many things are touted as UFOs on YouTube. Nothing wrong with being selective and ruling out the non mysterious. Otherwise people can go to the opposite end of debunker, which is accepting without question as opposed to questioning acceptance. Both extremes aren't the way to go.

Unequivocally, UFOs exist - get over it - and no, they aren't misidentifications, vapour clouds or whatever the hell so called experts label them as. Debunkers have their agenda, but unfortunately for them their explanations seem to arise from desperation rather than any research process. Desperation should tell you a lot about the psychiatry of those who crave to live in a world where UFOs can't exist. Either that, or it's far easier to shout "fake" and demonstrate that it can be faked, as if that proves a point of any sort. Does that mean because there are wig manufacturers, no real hair exists? Find someone wanting to explain all UFOs away, and you'll find someone insecure, because let's face it, as an intellectual concept, it's not that difficult to entertain.

Take reductionists (someone please do!), who insist that any mystery can ultimately be explained in terms of current forms of reference, logic, or dare I say "common sense" ? Common sense is always changing, it used to be common sense that anything mechanical and heavier than air couldn't fly!

Even the simplest level of thinking will show that what is considered possible now scientifically, for example life abundant in the universe, interstellar travel via exotic propulsion systems etc backs up the possibility of aliens whizzing about in UFOs rather than the other way around. Yet, you always hear it on any documentary about life elsewhere in the universe. "If we had to get to the nearest star, using voyager as our example, it would take X thousands of years". Of course it would. It'd take me years to get to another country by riding on the back of a tortoise, but by plane I can be there in hours.

Even if the idea of aliens whizzing about in UFO's gives your brain the creeps, you can't dismiss other possibilities either, via dimensional travelling, or their being time travellers of some sort (who knows how evolution natural or otherwise will pan out). Simply because those possibilities are discussed as part of existing rules of science now. There was a time when that stuff was the core of science fiction, but do some checking, both time travel and extra dimensions are clearly entertained as possibilities according to those "in the know".

Maybe it's just that they're not keeping up with modern thinking? There have always been those that want things to remain at the same level, and made to look foolish historically as a result. For me, it's equally as important (if not more) to understand the questions, rather than glibly accept what's the easiest or most convenient answers. Better to debate without answer, than to answer without debate and all that! :)

Now you'll have to ponder on this:

All this was the result of watching my cat, does this mean I need to get out more ? And if I do, what if I see another UFO ? :)
