Why I know UFOs are real, and why I don't believe in them. |
Sounds like a contradiction doesn't it ? I use the title wisely to get a message across. More of that to come later though. What I'll be discussing, is why, in my mind, UFOs are very definitely real. I can picture the typical debunker's thoughts right away, “oh no not another nutcase”. I'll say this from the outset, whatever debunker's may say about individual cases, their view that UFOs don't exist is frankly, absurd.
I don't know what opinion polls show regarding peoples thoughts on the subject. It seems to me, that the majority think it's a bunch of nonsense. I have spoken with many a person who has told me that. Normally, I shrug my shoulders these days. I used to discuss at length why I thought the opposite was the case. I eventually gave up simply because 99 times out of a 100 they've made the judgement without any thought. Or more importantly weren't likely to give it any thought. I'll explain some of the reasons why they think UFOs don't, or can't exist.
1)It's too silly, aliens flying around in spaceships is stuff of movies, not real life.
2)It's akin to believing in santa claus or something “made up”.
3)They want to live in a textbook world.
4)They don't want others to think they're crazy.
5)They've seen too many anti ufo documentaries.
6)Read too many things in the press that make light of the subject.
I'll take each of these and pass comment:
1)UFOs and aliens predate the movies. Some people who at least have looked into the UFO subject think it all started in 1947. I've seen many a documentary that uses this as a premise. It didn't, it started long before then, see this article I wrote some time ago.
http://www.book-of-thoth.com/article1643.html
As you'll see, the movies came out because of what was already happening, not the other way round.
2)It's akin to believing in Santa Claus, or something made up? This is a bizarre response to me. People associate an interest in UFOs as “wanting to believe” like Mulders poster in X-files. I think there is an element of that with some people, but not the majority. The simple fact is UFOs aren't “made up”. Too many people see them, too many report them in an official capacity to be “made up”. Would all those FBI, CIA, Government and other official bodies produce so much documentation on something “made up” ? Thousands of documents exist.
3)Textbook worlds are comfort for a lot of people. It's not surprising really, that's how we're usually educated. Anything not in the textbooks therefore can be uncomfortable for some, an outrage to others. You can usually spot these people by their instant “normal” solutions to any UFO incident. Almost as if there's a race to get it explained as soon as possible. In some instances, their behaviour borders on the obsessive. Which to me indicates some sort of psychological problem. Its “I want to believe” in reverse.
4)They don't want to appear crazy do they ? They might accept UFOs, but everyone will think they're nuts. So they deny out of intellectual laziness and cowardice. Laziness because they won't think for themselves, and cowardice because they won't speak for themselves.
5)Seen too many anti UFO documentaries, and there's plenty of those. Quite often on “science” channels. I've seen enough of those to last a lifetime, I enjoy watching them, but only to see what tactic they use. A lot of the time it's the editing. So you'll get a witness for 30 seconds, and 10 minutes of why some “expert” thinks there's nothing to it. Or they'll misinform, mislead and generally be very inaccurate.
Mr public watches these, and because they're on the science channel, well it must be right. Whose side do you want to join, the UFO nuts or the clever debunker's science propaganda?
Problem is, a lot of the pro UFO documentaries, aren't done very well at all. They're either too sensationalist, or plain boring! There are exceptions to this, but there are a number of bad ones.
So in terms of documentaries, or TV exposure. Not a good situation.
6)Too many mocking articles in newspapers. I had a bad experience of this, and others have too. I've known them to print things that weren't said. Where the “news” paper focused on the person not the sighting. “He said he hadn't been drinking” etc. I've seen that written. Lots of public read the newspapers, and quite often adopt the same view as the reporter, because they're seen as trustworthy. Not when it comes to the UFO subject.
So, if aliens are coming to this planet, why don't they do what we expect them to do?
You've all heard people say “why don't they land in major cities”
It may come as a surprise, but not everyone thinks UFOs are alien spaceships. But tell anyone you've seen a UFO, and they hear “I've seen aliens in a spaceship”. As to why they don't land in major cities. They do, but hang on, why would they do what we would anyway ? That's a little narrow minded really. As are most of the “why don't they do this” sort of questions.
Enough about everyone else, I'll tell you why I know they're real.
Because I've seen some, easy wasn't it ! No not really, because I've seen plenty of
weird things, but you “know” when you witness the UFO. There was nothing at all, that even came close to an explanation for the ones I've seen. I know this, because I was determined to find out, because the experience was so unsettling, but in a good way.
I also know it's possible to misinterpret things seen, we all make mistakes. I wasn't misinterpreting these. I'm not alone, I'm in good company. Because there have been thousands of people who've seen the real deal. Probably thousands more in times gone by.
But I still don't believe in them!
Why? Because of the overuse of the phrase which has removed any sense of importance. Because the phrase is somewhat religious in suggestion. I think it was Stephen Greer who said “I don't believe in them, I know they exist. It's like asking me if I believe in this chair I'm sat in, no, I know it's real and it exists”. Or something like that, he captured my thoughts on this.
I'd rather people said I accept UFO reality, or some other such. I realise it's still a belief, but so is the idea that they don't.
So you can still think UFOs exist, without “believing in them” !
