Why I know UFOs are real, and why I don't believe in them.

The Blog of THoTHSounds like a contradiction doesn't it ? I use the title wisely to get a message across. More of that to come later though. What I'll be discussing, is why, in my mind, UFOs are very definitely real. I can picture the typical debunker's thoughts right away, “oh no not another nutcase”. I'll say this from the outset, whatever debunker's may say about individual cases, their view that UFOs don't exist is frankly, absurd.

I don't know what opinion polls show regarding peoples thoughts on the subject. It seems to me, that the majority think it's a bunch of nonsense. I have spoken with many a person who has told me that. Normally, I shrug my shoulders these days. I used to discuss at length why I thought the opposite was the case. I eventually gave up simply because 99 times out of a 100 they've made the judgement without any thought. Or more importantly weren't likely to give it any thought. I'll explain some of the reasons why they think UFOs don't, or can't exist.

1)It's too silly, aliens flying around in spaceships is stuff of movies, not real life.
2)It's akin to believing in santa claus or something “made up”.
3)They want to live in a textbook world.
4)They don't want others to think they're crazy.
5)They've seen too many anti ufo documentaries.
6)Read too many things in the press that make light of the subject.

I'll take each of these and pass comment:

1)UFOs and aliens predate the movies. Some people who at least have looked into the UFO subject think it all started in 1947. I've seen many a documentary that uses this as a premise. It didn't, it started long before then, see this article I wrote some time ago.

http://www.book-of-thoth.com/article1643.html

As you'll see, the movies came out because of what was already happening, not the other way round.

2)It's akin to believing in Santa Claus, or something made up? This is a bizarre response to me. People associate an interest in UFOs as “wanting to believe” like Mulders poster in X-files. I think there is an element of that with some people, but not the majority. The simple fact is UFOs aren't “made up”. Too many people see them, too many report them in an official capacity to be “made up”. Would all those FBI, CIA, Government and other official bodies produce so much documentation on something “made up” ? Thousands of documents exist.

3)Textbook worlds are comfort for a lot of people. It's not surprising really, that's how we're usually educated. Anything not in the textbooks therefore can be uncomfortable for some, an outrage to others. You can usually spot these people by their instant “normal” solutions to any UFO incident. Almost as if there's a race to get it explained as soon as possible. In some instances, their behaviour borders on the obsessive. Which to me indicates some sort of psychological problem. Its “I want to believe” in reverse.

4)They don't want to appear crazy do they ? They might accept UFOs, but everyone will think they're nuts. So they deny out of intellectual laziness and cowardice. Laziness because they won't think for themselves, and cowardice because they won't speak for themselves.

5)Seen too many anti UFO documentaries, and there's plenty of those. Quite often on “science” channels. I've seen enough of those to last a lifetime, I enjoy watching them, but only to see what tactic they use. A lot of the time it's the editing. So you'll get a witness for 30 seconds, and 10 minutes of why some “expert” thinks there's nothing to it. Or they'll misinform, mislead and generally be very inaccurate.

Mr public watches these, and because they're on the science channel, well it must be right. Whose side do you want to join, the UFO nuts or the clever debunker's science propaganda?

Problem is, a lot of the pro UFO documentaries, aren't done very well at all. They're either too sensationalist, or plain boring! There are exceptions to this, but there are a number of bad ones.

So in terms of documentaries, or TV exposure. Not a good situation.

6)Too many mocking articles in newspapers. I had a bad experience of this, and others have too. I've known them to print things that weren't said. Where the “news” paper focused on the person not the sighting. “He said he hadn't been drinking” etc. I've seen that written. Lots of public read the newspapers, and quite often adopt the same view as the reporter, because they're seen as trustworthy. Not when it comes to the UFO subject.

So, if aliens are coming to this planet, why don't they do what we expect them to do?

You've all heard people say “why don't they land in major cities”

It may come as a surprise, but not everyone thinks UFOs are alien spaceships. But tell anyone you've seen a UFO, and they hear “I've seen aliens in a spaceship”. As to why they don't land in major cities. They do, but hang on, why would they do what we would anyway ? That's a little narrow minded really. As are most of the “why don't they do this” sort of questions.

Enough about everyone else, I'll tell you why I know they're real.

Because I've seen some, easy wasn't it ! No not really, because I've seen plenty of
weird things, but you “know” when you witness the UFO. There was nothing at all, that even came close to an explanation for the ones I've seen. I know this, because I was determined to find out, because the experience was so unsettling, but in a good way.

I also know it's possible to misinterpret things seen, we all make mistakes. I wasn't misinterpreting these. I'm not alone, I'm in good company. Because there have been thousands of people who've seen the real deal. Probably thousands more in times gone by.

But I still don't believe in them!

Why? Because of the overuse of the phrase which has removed any sense of importance. Because the phrase is somewhat religious in suggestion. I think it was Stephen Greer who said “I don't believe in them, I know they exist. It's like asking me if I believe in this chair I'm sat in, no, I know it's real and it exists”. Or something like that, he captured my thoughts on this.

I'd rather people said I accept UFO reality, or some other such. I realise it's still a belief, but so is the idea that they don't.

So you can still think UFOs exist, without “believing in them” !

Thanks for the article..I feel the same of course.

There are many who think UFOs are not real but there are far more that do accept them as real..some even being witness.
When I say UFO, I do mean Extraterrestrial crafts.
It would seem that approximatley 70% of the population of most nations think UFOs are indeed real.

It is a shocking number, considering the mockery that still shadows the words, "I've seen a UFO".

Some may say..UFO is exactly that ..an unidentified flying object...but..that number is very small.
If you were to do a survey..you would certainly find that most people do in fact think/mean alien craft when "UFO" is spoken or thought.

It seems that UFO and ET have become too hard to keep under wraps since the Internet has allowed us to share the truth.

Great post.

The comment 'why don't they land in cities?' really doesn't make much sense if you really think about it. I'd almost bet NASA, or whoever, already has tentative plans about what we'll do when landing on another planet and I'll almost guarantee they don't include landing at the "first major city you see".

First of all you're going to want to orbit the planet a number of times to see what kind of information you can get. During that time if you're spotted and contact is made then you probably would land near a city, if you felt it was safe. However if you're not contacted and feel it is safe to land then you'd probably land somewhere in the boonies but not too far from a civilized area, if there is one. From then on it would be up to the flight commander to decide what steps to take to make contact, if it was wanted.

You can almost bet your last dollar that no flight commander is going to land directly at a major city unless he/she is absolutely sure it would not create any kind of problem. That would only come if you'd been invited to land there and you knew it was safe or were absolutely sure you could escape if it should prove otherwise.

I do like the idea behind the title for this blog. Belief, if you think about the word, really implies that you don't 'know' something as a fact but you're sure it does exist. Guess that makes us UFO 'Knowers' instead of 'Believers'.

Nice job Boss. The difference is believing & knowing. How many that believe in their various gods, commit the most heartfelt good for their comrades or the atrocious deeds to their "enemies" for the same deity.

Throughout the evolution of our understanding of the world around us we have had to rely on the written words of mere mortals as ourselves to determine what was fact & what was fiction. We've been told to believe in deities of many different stripes, that have yet to make anything near a percentage of the number of sightings or provide photos & footage of these UFOs, that skeptics continue to batter with the same barrage of nonsense.

By the way, just because there are countless hoaxes & mistaken sightings doesn't mean anything. How many of us thought we had to use the washroom only to be disappointed when we finally get there? Do we disregard all currency when counterfeiters hit the stores?

Wars have been fought over peoples' beliefs yet the same groups that make the decisions to wage war won't make the decision to put some effort into cooperating with folks like ourselves who have had personal experiences.

Right on.

I see what you're saying - I don't believe that spaceships have landed on earth, but i do believe in UFOs - I mean, it stands for "Unidentified Flying Object" NOT spaceship.. it really irks me when people use these terms interchangeably.

The term 'UFO' can be used in so many circumstances, and I'm willing to bet that 90% of them are eventually identified. Even though I don't believe aliens have visited, I sure believe they are out there -its just that the 'things' people see in the sky, are just visual effects, balloons, aircraft from earth or junk caught in an updraft. I wish i could be proven wrong, it would be awesome to interact with an alien life form. (providing it's intelligent and benign..)
