More Mythological Connections

Just prior to Albert Bourne's passing, there was an interesting article put up on the Book of THoTH front page.

Written by the same author as "UFOs a Modern Phenomenon? Think again" Michael Bourne this time goes through Irish folklore and makes a case that the faeries that lived in the "Otherworld" were the resident's best explanation for the UFO phenomenon at the time in his article "Tuatha De Danann - Ancient Aliens?"

Obviously, a common theme around here and elsewhere, and Mike makes an interesting case for the common cause for some common European mythology and our modern UFO incidents.

Sincere Thanks

Things seem to be beginning to return to normal around Book of THoTH, so I think it's a safe time to begin blogging again.

I very much appreciate the fact that so many people that read this blog took the time to send well wishes onto the Bourne family. It's certainly helped everyone out through a rough time to know that there's so many nice people out there.

Albert Bourne, 3/6/1933 - 11/26/2007

While I have some other stuff to talk about, it's not appropriate right now.

THoTH, aka Michael Bourne, the founder and heart and soul of Book of THoTH, has lost his father. Momma, a moderator and regular on the site has lost her husband.

It's hard for me to put words to what has happened. The Bourne family has become an extension of my own over the years, and, in part, I can feel the loss that they're feeling. Out of respect, this blog will remain silent for a short period to mark the passing.

The following is what Michael has written for his recently passed father:

Death Be Not Proud - Tho Thou art called Mighty

I was going to write a poem of sorts in memory of my father, who yesterday passed into the next realm. I can't do that, for what reason I don't know, so I will instead put thoughts to words here.

Seventy Four years you walked the earth, changing lives everywhere you went.
You may not have noticed that, it's subtle but it was there.
You cheered many when they were down.
Helped in any way you could for those less fortunate than yourself.
In many ways a real Saint of this age.
Your work was hard, extremely tough, and agonising toward the end.
Yet you did not ever, not once think to give in.

Albert Bourne
March 6th 1933 - November 26th 2007

You and Momma were a match made in heaven.
In many ways the role models for what I wanted to become.
You helped and supported each other for all of the years.
There were tears of happiness and sorrow.
As life threw its many challenges your way.
But you fought hard, and passionately each step of the way.

I'll miss you dad, that is obvious I know.
Just as you'll miss us, but know this...
It's all just temporary, although you've moved on.
We'll all be seeing you soon, laughing and joking about everything..

You taught me so many things for life, and made me proud.
Your message was strong, but rarely loud.
I am so like you in many ways.
Our love of knowledge, and although our views were different.
Ultimately we were seeking the same thing.
Because wisdom is a means to the same end.
All quests are paths to the top of the same mountain.

Your intellect was enormous, although you were humble.
Such pearls of wisdom I'd carry with me after our talks.
I am so happy that I made you proud.
Who'd have thought it would be me who interviewed
A man from the MOD about UFOs.
I got the confidence to do many such things from you.

Because deep down, I always wanted you and Momma
To be proud of what I did, because I wanted to show you
What a great job you both did, with all of us, not just me.
Three loving kids and many more, who all looked up to you
With pride, warmth, respect and most importantly love.

Before you moved on Dad, you discussed this site with Momma.
Showing me that you think I did good, and that feels great.
I dedicate it to you Dad, because one of the most important things.
Is to work hard on what you believe in, I learned that from you.

This almost became a poem, but I wanted words not rhymes.
Even though that happened at times :-)
In the end though Poppa, words can only ever be .
Small symbols that lack the reality of what I want to convey.

That can only be done in thoughts and feelings.
You'll be in my thoughts Dad, every hour and every day.
Until we meet again my Dear Father and Friend
I'll wear your cap proudly, it gives me the strength
The strength to keep fighting hard for that which I believe

I'll go now Dad, but only from this
Keep watching over us, as your spirit keeps us alive.
It's just a question of time Dad until we're together again
I'll make the most of it here, give you even more reason.
To see that you did well with us all.

Per Ardua Ad Astra Dad
Michael

Book of THoTH articles have really been piling up on me here, but there's been a couple of really great exclusive articles this week that I think deserve some attention.

Nick Pope wrote a very interesting article for BoT on The Cosford Incident.

For those who aren't familiar with it, here's the intro that Mr. Pope has written for his article:

On 30 and 31 March 1993 there was a series of UFO sightings in the UK involving over a hundred witnesses. Many of these were police officers and military personnel. The UFO also flew directly over two RAF bases. What follows is the extraordinary story of what has been dubbed The British UFO Mystery.

Overview

The first sighting took place on 30 March at around 8.30pm in Somerset. This was followed by a sighting at 9pm in the Quantock Hills. The witness was a police officer who, together with a group of scouts, had seen a craft that he described as looking "like two Concordes flying side by side and joined together". The reports came in thick and fast and when I arrived at work the following morning I received a steady stream of reports ........

...... It was soon clear that I had a major UFO event on my hands. One of the most interesting reports came from a member of the public in Rugely, Staffordshire, who reported a UFO that he estimated as being 200 metres in diameter. He and other family members told me how they had chased the object in their car and got extremely close to it, believing it had landed in a nearby field. When they got there a few seconds later, there was nothing to be seen. Many of the descriptions related to a triangular-shaped craft or of the lights perceived as being on the underside of such a craft. Indeed, in an apparent coincidence these sighting occurred three years to the very day after the famous wave of sightings in Belgium that had led to F-16 fighters being scrambled to intercept a UFO being tracked on radar.

Mr. Pope will be featured in at least one upcoming DVD from Michael Bourne and the Book of THoTH, so I think that we can all look forward to more information from him in the future.

Also on the BoT front page, Michael Bourne, aka THoTH, has written an article on recent scientific investigations into telepathy.

Interestingly, recent tests in the UK and the USA have shown intriguing results which seem to confirm the possibility of the ability to send and receive signals using only the human brain.

They were then taken to separate rooms and wired up to EEG machines, which detect activity in certain parts of the brain. When in these rooms, the subjects were exposed to the sounds of rhythmic drumming to bring their levels of consciousness to a similar state. Whilst in this state, random light flashes were beamed at the "sender". This triggered activity in the visual cortex of the brain (the area which activates with signals from the eye). Their startling discovery was that the visual cortex in the "receiver" also responded in a similar fashion, despite them not being exposed to any light flashes.

These are certainly fascinating results, and they should bear further looking into since they passed peer review and have been published in upstanding scientific journals.

THoTH promises an update to the article with findings from a recent related study in Italy, so keep an eye out for that one!

Two big announcements today!

The cover for the upcoming book The Book of THoTH: Wisdom of the Ages has been chosen in the cover competition hosted by Renderosity. The first place winner, and the featured cover is right here:

(Image copyright BoT 2006)

I know Philip Gardiner and Michael Bourne had a hard time deciding on a winner, and six other entries each received prizes as well.

A big thanks to everyone who participated in the competition, the entries were amazing, and we ended up with over 200 of them!

Don't forget, there's still time to get your article entered into the competition to get it published in the book. That competition ends December 31st, and we've had some wonderful articles submitted so far. I'm really looking forward to seeing what comes in over the last five weeks. With any luck I'll even get an article or two of my own entered this week.
