Doomsday cult said to be at center of Iraqi battle

Authorities say Iraqi and U.S. forces fought disciples of a renegade Muslim leader intent on killing Shiite pilgrims.
NAJAF, IRAQ ? In an era beset by war and confusion, a purported messiah rises from the sands of the desert promising to deliver the end of time. On the outskirts of a holy city, he gathers his fighters for the apocalypse. But his plan is betrayed.
By dawn, government forces surround the messiah and his followers, killing him and hundreds of others.
The apparent story line of the Heaven?s Army cult and its leader, Dhyaa Abdul-Zahra, seems to belong to a long-ago epoch.
But the Iraqi and U.S. troops who fought an intense battle against hundreds of disciples of the renegade Muslim leader near the ancient city of Najaf on Sunday met a modern enemy. They were armed not only with an unorthodox religious fervor but also with high-tech weapons, Iraqi officials said.
Details of the fighting remained sketchy and contradictory. But Sunday?s battle illustrates how Iraq has become fertile ground for extremists of various stripes rather than the regional incubator for moderate movements envisioned by the war?s American architects.
On Monday, in its first detailed account of the fighting, the U.S. military said more than 100 gunmen were captured. A U.S. helicopter crashed during the battle, killing the two crewmen.
The U.S. account did not provide details about the nature of the mysterious fighters, saying only that they were ?militias.?
More than 36 hours after the initial assault, estimates by Iraqi officials on the number of dead fighters varied from 150 to 400.
It was unclear how officials had reached the estimates.

Religious authorities in Najaf responsible for taking care of bodies for burial said they had received only eight corpses by Monday night. Other Iraqi officials said many bodies had not been collected from the battlefield.
One U.S. advisor to Iraqi security forces cautioned against exaggerated casualty reports from the Iraqi government.
?There are rumors everywhere,? he said. ?The whole situation is so bizarre.?
Iraqi officials offered an extraordinary tale that, if true, would mean that a large, well-armed paramilitary unit grew right under the noses of the nation?s security forces.
?How could that have been invisible?? the U.S. advisor asked.
Iraqi officials said the militants had been holed up with their wives and children stockpiling food and weapons in the village of Zergha on the opposite bank of the Euphrates River from Najaf. According to some reports, women and children were among the casualties in the intense ground and air assault.
Abdul-Zahra was a charismatic figure, Iraqi officials said, whose tale conjures up American religious zealots Jim Jones and David Koresh.
The officials said Abdul-Zahra, also known as Thamir abu Gumar, was arrested twice during the rule of Saddam Hussein on charges of claiming to be Imam Mahdi, the revered Shiite Muslim saint who disappeared more than 1,000 years ago and whose return is said to herald a new dawn of justice.
After Hussein was toppled in the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, Abdul-Zahra?s group appeared to be a legitimate political movement ?coming out of the new civil freedoms,? said Ali Jarew, Najaf?s provincial security advisor.
But soon Abdul-Zahra, who is in his mid-30s, began telling followers that he was the reincarnation of the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib, another revered Shiite saint.
Jarew described Abdul-Zahra as tall, fair-skinned, rugged and handsome. His followers were said to include Sunnis and Shiites, Iraqis and foreigners, men and women.
They apparently came to believe that the man from the small Shiite town of Hillah was Mahdi, and the chaos engulfing Iraq an omen of the coming apocalypse.
The Iraqi Cabinet, in a statement, described the Heaven?s Army as an ?ideologically corrupted group? led by a man with ?a suspicious history.?
Building a stronghold among orchards on the outskirts of Najaf, members dug trenches, hoarded food, sewed fake Iraqi uniforms and assigned guard shifts as they prepared for battle against pilgrims celebrating one of the holiest days on the Shiite calendar, officials said.
Iraqi officials said Abdul-Zahra?s doomsday vision portrayed revered Shiite clerics in Najaf as frauds and impostors who deserved to be killed.
Iraqi forces started casting a suspicious eye on the group about 10 days ago. They used infiltrators and received information that an attack was imminent.
Iraqi officials said they gave ?a chance for this group to surrender,? but members did not comply. ?They preferred to face our forces,? the Cabinet statement said.
Iraqi security forces said they surrounded the group?s stronghold and attacked.
By striking preemptively, Iraqi security forces said, they stopped a lethal, well-armed cult from carrying out a potentially devastating attack on Najaf?s shrines and clerics.
But U.S. officials offered a significantly different account of how the fighting started. They said the heavily armed group struck first, using hand and rocket-propelled grenades to attack a convoy of Iraqi soldiers, police and commandos who had been sent to investigate the tip about an impending attack on Shiite pilgrims.
The fighters were holed up in elaborate trenches, Iraqi officials said.
?It was obvious that they had good military training and big supplies of weapons,? the Cabinet statement said. ?They were ready for a war.?
Cult members managed to break into the Iraqi army?s radio frequency, an Iraqi soldier said.
?When we were calling their names and telling them to get off the walkie-talkie, they were saying, ?We are messengers here to save you. We are the followers of the Mahdi,? ? the soldier said.
The group also had sophisticated medical equipment and two surgery rooms, an Iraqi official said.
During the hours-long battle, Heaven?s Army fighters captured one wounded Iraqi soldier, Jarew said. They treated him at the compound and sent him back to his comrades with a message.
?The imam is coming back,? it said, according to Jarew.
Iraqi officials said such cults could arise anywhere.
Even the U.S. has not been immune to intelligence lapses and terrorism attacks, said Abdul Hussein Abtan, Najaf?s deputy governor, referring to the Sept. 11 attacks.
He said he had seen the remains of the cult leader.
?His body is by my side,? Abtan said. ?Thank God [the man] who claims that he is the imam was killed.?

Archeologists working near Stonehenge in England have discovered what appears to be an ancient religious complex containing a wealth of artifacts that may finally illuminate the lives and religious practices of the people who built the mysterious monument 4,600 years ago.
The circle of massive stone blocks on Salisbury Plain southwest of London is one of the most famous archeological sites in the world, but researchers know surprisingly little about the people who built it and lived in the region.
The discovery, reported Tuesday in a teleconference organized by the National Geographic Society, reconfigures the geometry of Stonehenge, indicating that it is not an isolated monument but part of a larger religious complex that may have encompassed the area.

It also casts the people who built the monument in an unexpected light, indicating that they were not only the somber worshipers of Stonehenge but also a raucous, hard-partying group who gathered for regular festivals.
?To see the everyday lives of these people, to see people living in their houses, is filling in really important gaps in the record,? said archeologist Mary Ann Owoc of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pa., who was not involved in the research. ?We had some evidence, but this is so much richer.?
The discovery is also destined to change archeologists? views of how the ancient people used the site. Stonehenge is typically thought of as a cemetery and an astronomical observatory that was used for pagan celebrations at the summer solstice.
The monument comprises concentric circles of massive stones, some weighing as much as 50 tons, surrounded by a circular earthen bank and a ditch. Some of the stones were imported from Wales, about 150 miles away, and others were quarried about 24 miles north of Stonehenge at Marlboro Downs. It was constructed about the same time as the Great Pyramids of Giza in Egypt.
The discovery at Durrington Walls, two miles northeast of Stonehenge, indicates that the region was a religious center where people gathered in midwinter for raucous feasts and solemn ceremonies before sending their deceased on a voyage to the afterlife.
Although Stonehenge was a monument to the dead, the complex at Durrington Walls was ?very much a place of the living,? said archeologist Mike Parker Pearson of Sheffield University, who led the team along with archeologist Julian Thomas of Manchester University.
Archeologists already knew there was a henge ? a circular banked enclosure with an internal ditch ? at Durrington Walls, but the wide excavations carried out in 2006 placed it in a new light.
?Such intensive subsurface research has never been attempted on this scale before? near Stonehenge, said archeologist Ruth Tringham of UC Berkeley.
The henge, about 1,400 feet in diameter, enclosed a series of concentric rings of huge timber posts. The team said the posts mimicked Stonehenge in all particulars except one ? its orientation.
Stonehenge is aligned with sunrise at the summer solstice and sunset at the winter solstice. The henge at Durrington Walls is the opposite, aligned with sunrise at the winter solstice and sunset at the summer solstice.
Artifacts found in the houses indicate there were massive midwinter celebrations marking the solstice to complement the summer celebration at Stonehenge.The team excavated eight houses, and magnetic anomalies show there are at least 25 more nearby, Pearson said.
?My guess is that there are many more than that,? he said. In fact, the entire valley appears to have been densely populated, he said.
The houses? relatively flimsy wattle and daub walls are long gone. What remains are densely packed clay floors.
?These are the first ones we have found with intact clay floors from this period,? Pearson said.
?The houses are virtually square, no bigger than the average sitting room ? about 14 feet by 14 feet,? he said. They feature a central fireplace, an oval hearth sunk into the floor. Slight indentations around the walls mark the locations of timber fittings for boxbeds and a dresser that stood opposite the door.
The houses are almost identical to a few houses previously discovered at Skara Brae in the Orkney Islands off the northern tip of Scotland, he said. Those houses, from the same period, were constructed of stone because the islands had been deforested.
Durrington Walls ?is either the richest site or the filthiest that we have ever found for this period,? Pearson said. ?It?s absolutely stuffed full of trash or rubbish: broken pots, chips, flints, burned stones used for cooking and animal bones. Many were thrown away half-eaten, a sign of conspicuous consumption. This is an enormous feasting assemblage. People were here to have a really good time.?
Significantly, there was no evidence regarding the processing or baking of grain, and little evidence of crafts.
?This was not a full-time, year-round community, but one for specialized activities,? Pearson said.
Owoc noted that people during this period tended to move from place to place as the seasons changed. It was not until 1700 BC to 1200 BC that they began to settle down in walled towns.
Teeth from pigs found at the site indicate the animals were about 9 months old when they were slaughtered. Assuming they were born in the spring, that would place the celebration near the winter solstice. Arrowheads embedded in the pigs suggest there were archery and other competitions before the feast.
Closer to the rims of the henge, on a terrace overlooking it, the team found more buildings. They were the same size as the others but not as close together, and each was surrounded by its own bank and ditch.

Most important, they were swept clean.
?These may have been special people, perhaps chiefs, living in seclusion,? Thomas said. The cleanliness may suggest that they were not houses but shrines or cult centers, he said. ?The contrast is really fascinating.?
As the timber posts in the henge rotted away, he said, people dug out the holes and placed deposits of animal bones, pottery and stone tools.
?They were creating an architecture of memory, a commemoration of what had been there,? Thomas said. ?This was clearly a place of enormous importance that was remembered over a long period of time.?
The team also unearthed a broad roadway or avenue that led from the settlement to the Avon River. The avenue was 90 feet wide and 510 feet long and very similar to an avenue at Stonehenge but much shorter. At the river, there is a near-vertical drop of about 12 feet.
?This is some kind of ceremonial roadway, and we know many people used it because it was flattened by the trampling of many feet,? Thomas said.
He speculated that after the feasts, the celebrants would proceed down the avenue and drop the bodies of the deceased, or their ashes, into the river. People of importance were cremated and their remains taken down the river and buried at Stonehenge. At least 250 burials are known to have occurred there.
The interpretation of the road?s use ?is more speculative but pretty interesting,? said archeologist Curtis N. Runnels of Boston University, editor of the Journal of Field Archaeology. ?It will create quite a bit of discussion in the field.?
The research was sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the Arts and Humanities Research Council, English Heritage and Wessex Archaeology.

To me this is great news, revealing hopefully evidence of wide-ranging travel and intercourse between peoples of far-flung places.

Nigeria reports its first cases of bird flu in humans

ABUJA, Nigeria: Health officials reported Nigeria's first cases of bird flu in humans on Wednesday, saying one woman had died and a family member had been infected but was responding to treatment.

The victim, a 22-year old woman in Lagos, died Jan. 17, Information Minister Frank Nweke said in a statement. He added that the government was boosting surveillance across Africa's most-populous nation after the infections in Lagos, Nigeria's biggest city.

The World Health Organization had no immediate confirmation.

Nigerian health officials earlier said 14 human samples were being tested. Nweke made no mention of those cases on Wednesday.

An outbreak of H5N1 bird flu hit Nigeria last year, but no human infections had been reported until Wednesday. Until the Nigerian report, Egypt and Djibouti were the only African countries that had confirmed infections among people. Eleven people have died in Egypt.

The bird flu virus remains hard for humans to catch, but health experts fear H5N1 may mutate into a form that could spread easily among humans and possibly kill millions in a flu pandemic.
Amid a new H5N1 outbreak reported in recent weeks in Nigeria's north, hundreds of kilometers (miles) from Lagos, health workers have begun a cull of poultry.

Bird flu is generally not harmful to humans, but the H5N1 virus has claimed at least 157 lives worldwide since it began ravaging Asian poultry in late 2003, according to the WHO.
The H5N1 strain had been confirmed in 15 of Nigeria's 36 states.

By September, when the last known case of the virus was found in poultry in a farm near Nigeria's biggest city of Lagos, 915,650 birds had been slaughtered nationwide by government veterinary teams under a scheme in which the owners were promised compensation. However, many Nigerian farmers have yet to receive compensation in the north of the country, and health officials fear that chicken deaths may be covered up by owners reluctant to slaughter their animals.

Since bird flu cases were first discovered in Nigeria last year, Cameroon, Djibouti, Niger, Ivory Coast, Sudan and Burkina Faso have also reported the H5N1 strain of bird flu in birds. There are fears that it has spread even further than is known in Africa because monitoring is difficult on a poor continent with weak infrastructure.

With sub-Saharan Africa bearing the brunt of the AIDS epidemic, there is concern that millions of people with suppressed immune systems will be particularly vulnerable, especially in rural areas with little access to health facilities. Many people keep chickens for food, even in densely populated urban areas.

Japan confirms another outbreak of H5N1 bird flu

TOKYO, Jan 31 (Reuters) - Japan has confirmed an outbreak of H5N1 bird flu in the western prefecture of Okayama, the third to be confirmed in the country since the beginning of the year, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry also said a separate outbreak was suspected after 23 birds died at a poultry farm in the southwestern prefecture of Miyazaki, site of two earlier H5N1 flare-ups and Japan's biggest poultry-producing region.

The H5N1 virus has killed at least 164 people worldwide since 2003, most of them in Asia, and over 200 million birds have died from it or have been killed to prevent its spread.

There have been no reported cases of human infection from the virus in Japan.

Agriculture Minister Toshikatsu Matsuoka told reporters that his ministry would support local authorities if they were to call for help from troops to deal with bird flu-related situations.

The North Pole has been frozen for 100,000 years. But according to scientists, that won't be true by the end of this century. The top of the world is melting. There's been a debate burning for years about the causes of global warming. But the scientists you're about to meet say the debate is over. New evidence shows man is contributing to the warming of the planet, pumping out greenhouse gases that trap solar heat. Much of this new evidence was compiled by American scientist Bob Corell, who led a study called the "Arctic Climate Impact Assessment." It's an awkward name ? but consider the findings: the seas are rising, hurricanes will be more powerful, like Katrina, and polar bears may be headed toward extinction. What does the melting arctic look like? Correspondent Scott Pelley went north to see what Bob Corell calls a "global warning."
Towers of ice the height of 10-story buildings rise on the coast of Greenland. It's the biggest ice sheet in the Northern Hemisphere, measuring some 700,000 square miles. But temperatures in the arctic are rising twice as fast as the rest of the world, so a lot of Greenland's ice is running to the sea. "Right now the entire planet is out of balance," says Bob Corell, who is among the world's top authorities on climate change. He led 300 scientists from eight nations in the "Arctic Climate Impact Assessment." Corell believes he has seen the future. "This is a bellwether, a barometer. Some people call it the canary in the mine. The warning that things are coming," he says. "In 10 years here in the arctic, we see what the rest of the planet will see in 25 or 35 years from now." Over the last few decades, the North Pole has been dramatically reduced in size and Corell says the glaciers there have been receding for the last 50 years. Back in 1987, President Reagan asked Corell to look into climate change. He's been at it ever since. In Iceland, he showed 60 Minutes glaciers that were growing until the 1990s and are now melting. In fact, 98 percent of the world's mountain glaciers are melting. Corell says all that water will push sea levels three feet higher all around the world in 100 years. "You and I sit here, another foot. Your children, another foot. Your grandchildren, another foot. And it won't take long for sea level to inundate," says Corell. "Sea level will be inundating the low lands of virtually every country of the world, ours included," Corell predicts. To find the sights and sounds of the arctic melting, there are few places better than a fjord in Greenland, with a glacier just a short distance away. Pelley stood on a huge block of ice that had split off from the glacier and had dropped into the sea ? a big iceberg. "This part of Greenland is melting faster than just about any other. To get a sense of the enormity of what's happening, consider this: The ice that is melting here is the equivalent of all the ice in the Alps," Pelley explained, standing atop the iceberg. That's more than 105 million acres of melted ice in 15 years. Just four minutes after Pelley cleared off this berg, part of the ice caved in.

60 Minutes got a bird's-eye view of how unstable the ice is becoming on a flight with glaciologist Carl Boggild. Boggild anchored 10 research stations to the ice. But every time he comes to visit, the ice and his stations have moved. Flying over the ice, Pelley noticed lots of fissures and crevices breaking through the ice. Asked what causes this, Boggild explained, "This is actually the ice flow, where you have so much tension in the ice that it cannot stick together. And it breaks and opens a crevice which goes about 150, 200 feet down." The ice is also melting on the sides, Boggild says. High overhead, Pelley remarked that one could hear the water running. "It's like a small river," Boggild said. A leading theory says those little rivers lubricate the bottom of the ice sheet, helping it move off the bedrock and out to sea. And there may be no stopping it. Arctic warming is accelerating. It's a chain reaction. As snow and ice melt they reveal dark land and water that absorb solar heat. That melts more snow and ice, and around it goes. There's long been a debate about how much of this is earth's naturally changing climate and how much is man's doing. Paul Mayewski, at the University of Maine, says the answer to that question is frozen inside an ice core from Greenland. With funding from the National Science Foundation, Mayewski has led 35 expeditions collecting deep ice cores from glaciers. The ice captures everything in the air, laying down a record covering half a million years. "We can go to any section of the ice core, to tell, basically, what the greenhouse gas levels were; we can tell whether or not it was stormy, what the temperatures were like," Mayewski explains. 60 Minutes brought Mayewski back to Greenland, where he says his research has proven that the ice and the atmosphere have man's fingerprints all over them. Mayewski says we haven't seen a temperature rise to this level going back at least 2,000 years, and arguably several thousand years. As for carbon dioxide (CO2) levels, Mayewski says, "we haven't seen CO2 levels like this in hundreds of thousands of years, if not millions of years." What does that tell him? "It all points to something that has changed and something that has impacted the system which wasn't doing it more than 100 years ago. And we know exactly what it is. It's human activity," he says. It's activity like burning fossil fuels, releasing carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. The U.S. is by far the largest polluter. Corell says there's so much greenhouse gas in the air already that more temperature rise is inevitable. Even if we stopped using every car, truck, and power plant ? stopping all greenhouse gas emissions ? Mayewski says the planet would continue to warm anyway. "Would continue to warm for another, about another degree," he says. That's enough to melt the Arctic ? and if greenhouse gases continue to increase, the temperature will rise even more. The ice that's melting already is changing the weather by disrupting ocean currents.

Corell points to floods in the U.S., heat waves in Europe; and 60 Minutes wanted to know about the catastrophic 2005 hurricane season. "The one thing I think we can say with a fairly high degree of confidence is the severity of the storms, how strong the storms, these cyclonic events like hurricanes and cyclones in the Pacific, are going to get ? they're gonna be more severe. Now one thing that is in doubt is whether there'll be more of them," Corell explains. "The oceans of the Northern Hemisphere are the warmest they've been on record. When they get up in that temperature, they spin off hurricanes. Well, if it goes up another degree, it's gonna spawn these with more intensity," Corell says. The name "arctic" comes from ancient Greek meaning "Land of the Great Bear." But the warming climate is threatening this icon of the arctic, the polar bear. Flying above the sub-arctic region of Hudson Bay, Canadian scientist Nick Lunn is hunting polar bears in a 30-year study that tracks their health. It's the job of his assistant Evan Richardson to take them down with a tranquilizer dart. Once tranquilized, Lunn carefully checks the bear with a pole, without getting too close. The polar bear is the largest predator on land. Native people in the region say he'll even hunt humans, but not on the day Pelley joined Lunn: with the tranquilizer, the bear was awake but immobile. The scientists knew this bear by his tattoo. His history is written chapter and verse in the "bear bible." "This is the record book of all the bears that have been handled by us or Manitoba Conservation," Lunn explains. The study began at the Wapusk National Park, because the bear population was thought to be the healthiest in the world. Lunn's annual checkup records changes in fat, dimensions and an inventory of weapons. The polar bear uses its teeth to hunt primarily one thing ? seals. That's where arctic warming comes in.

Polar bears can only hunt on the ice. Lunn says the ice is breaking up three weeks earlier than it did 30 years go. He's now finding female bears 55 pounds lighter ? weaker mothers with fewer cubs. Asked how the bear population has changed since he started his research, Lunn says, "When we first started doing this research, we've done inventories in the mid-80s, in the mid-90s. Both times we came out with an estimate of approximately 1,200 animals for what is known as the western Hudson Bay population. The numbers now suggest that the population has declined to below 1,000." The bears are unlikely to survive as a species if there's a complete loss of ice in summer, which the arctic study projects will happen by the end of this century. There are skeptics who question climate change projections like that, saying they?re no more reliable than your local weatherman. But Mayewski says arctic projections done decades ago are proving accurate. "That said, the skeptics have brought up some very, very interesting issues over the last few years. And they've forced us to think more and more about the data that we collect. We can owe the skeptics a vote of thanks for making our science as precise as it is today," says Mayewski. One big supporter of climate science research is the Bush administration, spending $5 billion a year. But Mr. Bush refuses to sign a treaty forcing cuts in greenhouse gases. The White House also declined 60 Minutes' request for an interview. Corell, who first studied the issue for President Reagan, believes the climate change facts are in, even if President Bush does not. "When you look at the American government, which is saying essentially, 'Wait a minute. We need to study this some more. We can't flip our energy use overnight. It would hurt the economy.' When you hear that, what do you think?" Pelley asked. "Well, what I do then is, I try to tell them exactly what we know scientifically. The science is, I believe, unassailable," says Corell. "I'm not arguing their policy, that's their business, how they deal with policy. But my job is to say, scientifically, shorten that time scale so that if you don't push out the effects of climate change into the long, long distant future. Because even under the best of circumstances, this natural system of a climate will continue to warm the planet for literally hundreds of years, no matter what we do."


So global warming is a global warning and it's time to take our world seriously. We are here and now and we cannot blame everybody else for what we are doing ourselves. As our ancestors told us again and again, we have to take responsibility and not pass the buck; we have to give thanks for what we have and join in balance and unity with the world - with the mother who provides. Quantum connection at the sub-atomic level means that this even means THOUGHT!

THE SINGING PYRAMID

An ancient traveller across the desert would probably have picked up the sound from miles away. It was a deep bass note, booming out over the Nile Valley, perhaps accompanied by another, slightly higher note, the two of them forming an eerie, resonating chord.As the sound grew louder and more persistent in his ears, the traveller would have been filled with awe and wonder. It would have seemed like the voice of the Great God, the Lord of the Universe himself, calling him to witness the miraculous fact that the sound was issuing from a vast stone edifice towering nearly 500 feet high above the ground.There on the Giza plateau, in the land which is today known as Egypt, the Great Pyramid was sending out a musical message across the sands. Extraordinary as the idea might seem, it was ?singing?.* * *The miracle of the ?singing pyramid? was made possible by two narrow shafts, just 8 inches wide, which were sunk into the north and south faces of the Pyramid and plunged downwards for distances of 235 feet and 174 feet to debouch into the so-called King?s Chamber 140 feet above the ground. Unlike the similar shafts attached to the Queen?s Chamber, these shafts were not sealed at their inner and outer ends but were cut through to provide an air passage between the interior and exterior of the Pyramid.These airshafts, it must be emphasised, are unique. They are found here in the Great Pyramid, but in no other pyramid or tomb. Some Egyptologists believe that the shafts were built to ventilate the King?s Chamber. Against this theory, it does not explain the oblique angle of the shafts. If ventilation were the objective, it would have been achieved much more easily by constructing the shafts horizontally. Other scholars believe that the shafts functioned as guides for the soul of the deceased king. A popular idea of late is that the shafts were aligned to certain stars in which the king would be reborn. However, even if we humour the notion that the king was buried in this chamber ? an idea that runs counter to everything that is known about ancient Egyptian burial practices ? the fact is that a king?s soul was fully capable of passing through solid masonry (witness the ?false doors? attached to Old Kingdom tombs) and hence it had no need of open shafts.One thing that can be stated with certainty is that the shafts were of paramount importance to the Pyramid?s design. For, as Rudolf Gantenbrink has pointed out, their construction at precise sloping angles through the masonry, so calculated as to ensure their exit at the same height on the Pyramid?s central north-south axis, would have involved the builders in endless additional work, time, and energy.Might acoustics be the answer to the conundrum?* * *The King?s Chamber is unique not only in respect of its airshafts but also in the fact that it is made entirely of granite blocks. It is on account of this construction ? granite is a resonant quartz-bearing rock ? that the room possesses exceptional acoustic properties.It has been known for centuries that the King?s Chamber has special acoustic properties. In 1581, Jean Palmerme, a French official, visited the Great Pyramid and reported that the granite sarcophagus, when struck, ?sounded like a bell?. Other travellers used the same phrase, and it became a favourite trick of the local Arab guides to hit the coffer and make it ring.But it isn?t just the sarcophagus. The King?s Chamber itself is renowned for its ability to resonate in harmony with every transient sound, be it a murmur or a footstep. The room is for this reason often used by modern tourist groups for the purposes of toning and meditation.In recent years, the acoustics of the King?s Chamber have been investigated by a number of researchers including the flautist Paul Horn, the writer Christopher Dunn, and two technicians, Tom Danley and John Reid. Their tests have established that the chamber has an impressive reverberation time (defined as ?the time in seconds required for a sound event to decay to one millionth of its initial level?) and resonates most strongly at very low frequencies.When the American acoustics engineer Tom Danley played a bass note of 30 Hertz through a system of amplifiers, he reported that the resonance was so strong that it ?scared the wits out of several crew members? and ?made everyone get up and run to the exit?.The English acoustics engineer John Reid has observed that the 2:1 dimensions of the chamber (it measures 34 feet 4 inches from east to west, 17 feet 2 inches from north to south) are ideal for creating powerful low frequency resonances.Of particular interest is the tower-like superstructure which rises to a maximum height of 49 feet above the King?s Chamber?s visible ceiling. This unique system comprises a further four flat granite roofs, formed by 34 horizontal beams, and at the apex a limestone gable formed by 24 cantilevered beams. Astonishingly, the huge granite beams have a combined weight of 1200 tons, which is additional to the 300 tons of the 9 beams of the visible ceiling. Why did the builders need to use so much granite?It has always been assumed by Egyptologists that these roofs were built for the purpose of weight relief ? to protect the flat ceiling of the chamber below. But structural engineers have argued convincingly that such an objective could have been achieved via a much simpler design. There was simply no need to erect four extra roofs.So, if the stacked roofs were not needed for structural reasons, then what was their purpose?I believe the answer may lie in the resonant properties of granite. This would explain why the 43 beams have such striking variations in width and height, and why some of the beams have deep grooves cut into them. It would appear that the beams were tuned to precise frequencies, in the same way that a guitarist tunes a string by lengthening it or shortening it with his fingers.Equally intriguing is the fact that the granite tower is essentially free-standing, being fitted between two huge limestone walls but not locked into the masonry of the Pyramid. It is as if the architect was attempting to maximize the vibration of the beams and to transmit that vibration into the chamber below.There, the floor too is suggestive of an acoustics purpose, for instead of sitting on flat masonry, as one might expect, the twenty-one floor stones reportedly sit on a nodular underlay, rather like an upturned corrugated egg carton, allowing them maximum freedom to vibrate.The King?s Chamber thus formed a kind of giant soundbox. But how exactly was it made to sing?* * *Some writers have suggested that the King?s Chamber was designed to resonate to the voices of the priests. In this manner, the body of the king, entombed in the sarcophagus, could have been stimulated by sound. Or, more controversially, a living person, lying therein, could have been induced to an altered state of consciousness. Against these theories, however, the chamber?s prime resonant frequency, probably 30 Hertz or less, is far too low to have been vocalised by the priests, while the 1200 tons of granite in the tower-like superstructure suggest the presence of a more powerful sound source.For this reason, I believe that the Egyptians were attempting to harness the vibrations of the Earth itself. To understand this, we must grasp the fact that the planet we live on resonates and vibrates, though at a very low frequency that none of us notices. It does this partly because of its shifting tectonic plates but also because it is bombarded from outer space by electromagnetic radiation from the sun and by other cosmic rays.It is therefore possible, as the writer Christopher Dunn has suggested, that the Great Pyramid functioned as an acoustic horn ? harnessing the vibrations of the Earth.These low frequency vibrations would have travelled up through the foundations of the Pyramid and caused the granite beams above the King?s Chamber to resonate in sympathy. The idea behind the different sizes and masses of the beams may have been to generate harmonics of the Earth frequencies, i.e. to raise them to an audible level (the human ear can detect frequencies down to about 16 Hertz). These subtly modified vibrations would then have been transmitted down into the chamber below, which was designed to amplify and broadcast the sounds.This brings us back to those unique airshafts which I described earlier. Their purpose, it would seem, was to relay the low frequency sounds to the outside world. (Note: It is not known for certain that the shafts were open at their upper ends. But it would not have been beyond the wit of the architect to design a simple baffle that could have kept the shafts open while preventing the ingress of birds, bats, insects and rainwater.)The Great Pyramid would thus have functioned as a kind of geo-vibrational resonant amplifier.When I put this idea to John Reid, he made an intriguing observation. The shafts, he said, bear a remarkable similarity to organ pipes, specifically those made of wood, these being constructed in square section of about 8 inches by 8 inches. In the light of my theory, Reid offered the opinion that the dome-shaped cavity of the southern shaft resembled a tuned Helmholtz resonator. Might the sound wave entering this shaft have been modified in order that the two shafts produced two distinct notes?It is worth emphasising at this point that I?m not necessarily suggesting that the builders of the Pyramid had advanced scientific knowledge of acoustics. Rather, it seems more likely that they mastered their sonic art by careful observation of nature, by simple experimentation, and by a trial and error approach to the design of the King?s Chamber, perhaps using a small test pyramid that would later have been dismantled or incorporated into one of the larger pyramids on the site. In other words, I am suggesting that they had nothing more than a practical working knowledge.As regards the volume of the sound broadcast by the Pyramid, it is difficult to estimate without building a working model. However, it is a fact that low frequency sound waves do remain audible over long distances, and it is therefore plausible that the voice of the ?singing pyramid? could have been heard for miles around.* * *Why, you will ask, would the builders of the Pyramid have invested so much time and trouble in creating this immense generator of sound?The answer lies in what I consider to be the true purpose behind the building. As I explain in my books ?Pyramid of Secrets? and ?The Midnight Sun?, the Egyptians did not practise a sun cult per se, but rather a ?cult of creation?, in which they repeatedly drew on the energies of ?the first time? to sustain the life of the world. In keeping with this idea, the pyramids did not symbolise the rays of the sun, as many scholars believe, but rather the creation of the cosmos. Their flowing shape in fact recalled the creation myth in which the Great God, a personification of the primeval earth, ejaculated from his body the waters for the sky and the light and materials for the sun, the moon, and the stars. Ancient Egyptian literature testifies to the importance of sound at the time of the creation. In several versions of the creation myth, the creator-god brings the cosmos into being by opening his mouth and pronouncing sacred words. Moreover, in the Pyramid Texts, a prominent theme is the creator?s emergence from the earth and ascent into the sky accompanied by a great noise and commotion. The earth quakes. Isis and Nephthys emit wails of lament. The gods shout. The voice of Geb, the earth, resounds. The king speaks to the sky. He comes forth as ?the Great Word? with the gods on his ?lips?. He ascends with a roar. In all of these renderings of the creation myth, the emission of sound is implicit, in keeping with the cataclysmic nature of the event. What is more, the sound in question is a low frequency sound, as evidenced by its association with the ?quaking and trembling of the earth?. It would make sense, therefore, if the Pyramid emitted low frequency sound from its shafts, for such sound would have commemorated the act of creation, in keeping with the monument?s overall creational symbolism.Incidentally, consistent with this theory, it is my belief that the sarcophagus in the King?s Chamber enshrined meteoritic iron ? the spiritualized semen of the creator-god. Seeing the pyramid in this way, rather than as just a king?s tomb, gives us for the first time a suitable explanation for its vast scale, the care lavished upon it, and its inestimable economic cost. Far from being a mausoleum, a monument to the dead, we can now see that the Pyramid, in all its soaring grandeur and impenetrable mystery, was a celebration of life itself.This was the message that I believe was booming out across the desert from the greatest wonder of the ancient world.***If this is true ? and I admit it is the most speculative of my theories in ?Pyramid of Secrets? ? then why does the Pyramid no longer emit its song, and why does Egypt have no legend of a ?singing pyramid??The explanation lies in the fact that the King?s Chamber has suffered serious structural damage, possibly within a few hundred years of its construction. The roof beams are cracked and dislodged, the walls have been forced outwards and the floor stones have been shaken and dislodged. Egyptologists ascribe this to an earthquake. The oddity is that of all the chambers in the pyramid, only the King?s Chamber and its antechamber were affected. No other room or passage sustained any subsidence damage or cracking.I believe that this only goes to support the idea that the King?s Chamber had a unique sensitivity to the vibrations of the Earth. While the rest of the pyramid was unaffected by this mysterious shock, it seems that this tower-like structure suffered a vibrational overload.Indeed, rather than an earthquake, I wonder whether the damage was done by a large meteorite impact, believed to have occurred in the Middle East around 2350 BC, just two hundred years after the Pyramid is thought to have been built.This impact, or series of impacts, would have injected a huge amount of energy into the Earth?s crust and triggered a sudden, massive surge in tectonic vibration. Human beings are awakening to their innate connection to the Universe. This is the primary role for all the NEW CHILDREN, coming to planet earth? ? Tracey Taylor, experiencer (2000)

INTRODUCTION
A seven-year old boy called Boriska from the Volgograd region began to tell his family of his life on Mars, its inhabitants and civilisation. He said he knew of Earth and Lemuria in very specific detail. He possessed profound knowledge and a high intellect (Pravda, Sept 2004, Russia).
Boriska displayed signs of extraordinary behaviour. At two weeks of age he was able to raise his head, spoke his first word at four months and as a one-year-old, Boriska could read the large print of a newspaper.

With precision and clarity, he recounted his knowledge of Mars, planetary systems and their inhabitants. He spoke about the gifted kids which he referred to as ?indigos? and of their essential role in assisting humanity during the anticipated Earth Changes.
Is humanity changing as a species?

The new kids on the block: A global phenomenon.
Renowned prophet and healer Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) not only spoke of a new humanity and referred to it as the 5th Root race but he also predicted that it would appear in the years 1998 to 2010.

Metaphysicians and other gurus also share the belief and the anticipation of this recent emergence of the new type of human they call Indigos. They are also referred to as Children of the New Millennium, Crystal Children, Children of Light, Golden Children, to mention a few.
The ufology community is conducting research into the extraterrestrial phenomenon experienced by children. Their explorations thus far have produced such terms as the New Humans or, more commonly, Star Children.

The profiles of the Indigo children share the same attributes or are strikingly similar. They are highly intelligent, creative, psychic, telepathic and posses healing and clairvoyant abilities.
The Indigo children also share an inherent capacity to articulately express knowledge and awareness of deep spiritual concepts, historical, anthropological and scientific data, far beyond the capacity of even the most learned scholars, regardless of their age, level of cognitive development, education and numerous other pertinent factors.

This confronting evidence has even captured the attention and interest of the Chinese government who are researching children who possess ?exceptional human functioning? (EHF), more commonly referred to as ?China?s Super Psychics?.

Unfortunately, this research also suggests that these children are so different that they are often misunderstood and described as suffering from ADD (attention deficit disorder).
In this article we will explore the extraordinary qualities and states of consciousness demonstrated by the Indigo children and the inference of the emerging New Humans.
Despite the plethora of information and supporting evidence, this phenomenon still manages to defy our logic and challenges our beliefs and yet it is scientifically supported.

Everything seems to suggest that humanity is on the verge of an evolutionary quantum leap. If we accept this premise, is it not plausible that the phenomenon related to extraterrestrial experience is equally valid and could offer a reasonable explanation for these developments?
Metaphysicians who speak about the emerging New Humans have professional, psychological and medical science backgrounds. Doreen Virtue, (The Crystal Children) has a PhD, and an MA and BA degree in Counselling Psychology. The publication The Indigo Children (1999) by Lee Carroll and Jan Tober took information from psychologists and therapists. The research in China is sponsored by the government and suggests that the phenomenon is taken seriously. Ufology researchers, too, have credible science, medical and psychological backgrounds.
If we are changing as a species, ufology offers a reasonable explanation. Scientific, biological and anthropological anomalies certainly suggest some form of intervention in the evolution of Homo sapiens. The missing link in our evolutionary tree certainly indicates a primary intervention in our genetic make-up. If this is the case, then the New Humans may well have been orchestrated in a similar way with genetic upgrades in our DNA. But the present upgrade is so radical that it appears like an evolutionary jump start, hence the name the New Humans.

If humanity is experiencing a quantum leap in its evolution, why is it happening now? Star Children believe they are here to ?guide the awakening of terrestrial consciousness? (Tracey Taylor). But how will this be achieved?

New scientific research could provide us with some of those answers and may qualify what the Star Children seem to understand, such as their role in the awakening of human consciousness. It may also explain why our connections to extraterrestrials could be far more intimate than we have previously suspected, as well as why they are currently so interested in us.
Extraterrestrial contact and genetic manipulation?

UFOs and their appearance in our airspace have been systematically ridiculed as pure nonsense by governments for years. This has been an effective strategy, despite the evidence that one in ten people see such craft. Ridicule and disinformation has meant that most people will hesitate to speak of what they have seen, let alone admit they had any interactions with such craft. Evidence in the form of photographs, hours of video footage and credible testimony from airline pilots and military personnel seems to mean nothing. Even the radar sightings which confirm this reality are hidden from public view.

A medical practitioner, Dr Stephen Greer, supports a disclosure program and owns videotape of hundreds of hours of testimony from high ranking military personal. They all confirm that UFOs are real and that there is a systemic and deliberate cover up by government agencies. Retired American Army and NATO Command Sergeant-Major Robert Dean in the 1960s and 70s guarded COSMIC-classified files which showed that government agencies were fully aware that extraterrestrials and UFOs regularly penetrated our airspace.

Compelling as this is, the evidence of such craft in our skies is really a very small part of this phenomenon. Surely we have to ask who is controlling these craft and why are they here? Robert Dean believes that we are very closely connected to aliens, both spiritually and physically, and suggests that they are responsible for the Star Child phenomenon. The development of a new humanity called Homo Noeticus is a term coined by John White who studied parapsychology and noetics (the investigation of consciousness). Many well-known researchers such as English author and UFO investigator Jenny Randles agree. She wrote about this in Star Children: The True Story of Alien Offspring Among Us.

It has been shown that contact experience is an inter-generational one and that such children appear to be more intelligent, exhibit extraordinary psychic and intuitive abilities and have knowledge that they have not consciously learnt. Ufology research shows that consistent genetic lines play an important factor in this phenomenon.

Podiatry surgeon, Dr Roger Leir, is renowned in ufology for his pioneering surgery removing alleged alien implants and his autobiographical book The Aliens and the Scalpel. Dr Leir included the phenomenon of Star Children in his research. He writes that ?I believe that any mother that looks at her recently born child, in comparison with children born twenty years ago, will testify that there is a tremendous difference. Some look upon the differences in the New Humans and say they have to do with better prenatal care etc. In my opinion this supposition is nonsense AND IN LIGHT OF MY MORE RECENT STUDIES AND EXPOSURE TO THE ABDUCTION PHENOMENON, I HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE RAPID ADVANCEMENT OF OUR HUMAN SPECIES IS DUE TO ALIEN INTERVENTION IN OUR BODIES AND MINDS?.

Dr Leir has based his statement not only on research into alien implants but from his observations of children. Comparing today?s statistics on the developmental stages in young children to forty years ago (when such records and studies began) he discovered that the level of higher psychological functioning in some cases was increased by as much as much as 80%. The question is, how could this happen? Dr Leir: ?I suggest that the answer involves alien manipulation of human genetics? (The Aliens and the Scalpel, p.192).

Recent genetic research could qualify this starling revelation. There are unexplainable anomalies in our genetic history and in 2003 it was discovered that 223 genes do not have the required predecessors on our geonomic evolutionary tree. These extra genes are completely missing in the invertebrate phrase. Therefore scientists can only explain their presence as recent in evolutionary time scale, and comment that this was not through gradual evolution, vertically on the tree of life, but horizontally as a ?side ways insertion of genetic material?. Significantly these 223 genes are two-thirds the difference between the chimpanzee and Homo sapiens and include important psychological and psychiatric functions. How did humanity acquire such enigmatic genes? Dr Leir and other researchers believe the answer may well be extraterrestrial genetic intervention!

Dr Richard Boylan, an American behavioural scientist, anthropologist and clinical hypnotherapist, has studied Star Children phenomenon and their connection to close encounter experience. He offers a precise profile of the New Humans and our intimate connection to extraterrestrials, or Star Visitors as he calls them. Dr Boylan is secretary of ACCET (the Academy of Clinical Close Encounter Therapists) in the USA, a professional body that encourages medical and psychological professions to be involved in this phenomenon. Boylan is convinced that Star Children are a reality and has created an organisation to support and educate families with these children. As president of the Star Kids Project (SKP) he organises workshops for Star Kids to help them and their parents cope with their extra psychic and intuitive abilities. He explains that the Star Child maybe defined as a child of both human and extraterrestrial origin. The ET contribution to the child?s make-up may come from genetic engineering, from biomedical technology and from telepathic consciousness linking. Star Kids are psychically and metaphysically changed as a result of their own contacts with the ?visitors? or ETs modifying their parent?s reproductive DNA.? He also believes that there is a link to what we now label Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), a syndrome which almost magically appeared about 15-20 years ago when more of these children began to be recognised.

Dr Boylan and Doreen Virtue believe that these children are often misdiagnosed with syndromes as questionable as ADD. One reason Dr Boylan suggests is that ?these kids are just crushingly bored with the slow, pedestrian way they are being educated? and that is why they often misbehave. Doreen Virtue suggests that Indigo and Crystal children can be also diagnosed as autistic or having Asperger?s syndrome. More research is warranted to explore such possibilities.

There are numerous accounts where the contactee or experiencer recalls details of their genetic material being harvested. Dr John Mack, former Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School wrote about the subject of genetic material being taken in his book Abduction. I have covered this important fact in my book Awakening, in the chapter on missing pregnancies. Many of my clients, both male and female, recall experiences when this procedure occurred. Some women also believe that their genetic material has been taken and altered in some way prior to their pregnancy. They say they knew the child was different or special because of this. What I found astonishing was that many of these children seemed to have an awareness that they were different. A letter to ACERN states:

?Yes I have always believed I was from elsewhere, and, like I said, I used to speak and write in a strange language in private. Sometimes, even in front of my mum, I used to cry because I felt so different. I would tell her not to touch me, as it was dangerous, and I am not yours. I am one of them. When the greys used to leave, I would get upset and believe they had left me behind, which made me angry and upset. I have memories of planets with golden buildings? ? James Basil (UK).

What are these differences, apart from higher physical and psychological functioning? Generally they are enhanced psychic and intuitive abilities, with an awareness of universal knowledge and even their true genetic origins. ?I am not yours? implies that some Star Children are aware they are connected in some way to the extraterrestrial beings who visit them.

From a letter (USA):?I started walking at 8 months, talking in sentences by 10 months, and how to read at 2 years; no one taught me. I had friends who walked through walls, became invisible, and we spoke telepathically. I desperately wanted to go home.?

David from Perth, Western Australia (now in his late twenties) said about his childhood psychic and telepathic abilities: ?I would have telepathic conversations with my sister until she told me to stop being lazy and start talking.?

Some of the older Star Children are able to explain their abilities and ET connections more precisely. Ann Andrews, author of Abducted, wrote about her family?s extraterrestrial contacts. They live in England and have had lifelong interactions with ETs. Jason, her youngest son, exhibits many of these higher senses, regularly astral travels and even heals individuals in this dream state.

Jason told his mother how the Star Child profile fitted him. Jason, like many other Star Children, complains about the bulkiness of his human body, saying how limited it is. He was tight lipped about his experiences for a long time because he said it was hard to trust anyone because you never know who they are working for. He was very serious when he asked Ann if I thought it was very strange that after hundreds of years of slow progress we had suddenly come on in leaps and bounds in just fifty years. According to Jason, ?they? (including himself) gave us the relevant knowledge. They showed us how to split the atom and harness nuclear power so that we might finally meet them as equals. However, he says angrily that we have turned all this knowledge into power over others less fortunate than ourselves, for example with atomic weapons. But when asked about genetic engineering, Jason said ?it is the ETs who choose the parents?. The children are genetically altered before they are born. ?They are given extraterrestrial DNA.?

Again it appears that many of the children know about their mixed human and ET gene pool. This was demonstrated to me quite graphically when a confused young mother told me about her ten-year-old son. She said that whilst out walking with him one day, her son very casually told her the actual percentage of ET genes in every person they passed!

The extraterrestrial education program, telepathic communication and more.

Five-year-old Aiden from Western Australia says ?I don?t mind going through the walls, and they teach me more on the ships than I learn at school. They come through walls, float not walk, become invisible, but are still around!? His mother writes, ?This astounds me. He is very blasé about it and says he will introduce them to me one day! Aiden knows what I am thinking, finishes my sentences for me, and feels pain when I do? (from Awakening, 2002).

Star Children can be aware of extraterrestrial educational programs when information is downloaded on a subconscious or super-conscious level. Jena is an eight-year-old girl in Perth who described this process as ?knowledge bombs? in her head, which sometimes hurt. They can have strange dreams where they know they are on-board spacecraft. They are taught to use their higher sense abilities and they know when they have done well at such tests.

Whitley Strieber, experiencer and author of The Secret School, also experienced such lessons on spacecraft. This testimony certainly suggests that the New Humans are not only upgraded physically and psychologically, but are also taught to operate on a broader multi-dimensional frequency which helps them access information and knowledge not available to others.

Tracey Taylor, who intuitively draws complex artwork and symbols related to her ET experiences, wrote ?As for my own contact experiences, I have become very compassionate towards ET beings, there is much that humans can learn and benefit by interacting with them. Initially I didn?t know what was going on or why, but there has always been an equal exchange. I helped them to achieve their genetic goals and, in return, developed my healing and psychic abilities, plus my understanding of life on earth.??Star children are born with greater wisdom and awareness, and are also gifted creatively. They have a great feeling of being connected to nature and all that exists. They are the bringers of the new, the bringers of light, they are here to guide the awakening of terrestrial consciousness.? So, if the new humanity is already here, whatever we choose to call them, how is this awakening of terrestrial consciousness orchestrated? The answer may well be contained in the creative expressions and data connected to contact experience.

Breaking down the barriers. The limits of traditional ufology research.

Traditional ufology attempts to convince the general public of UFO reality with research focused primarily on UFO sightings and other such scientific data. Although this approach is important, I believe it is far too limited a perspective for such a complex phenomenon. Some ufologists still exhibit ambivalence towards the abduction or contact phenomenon. This is despite the many thousands of credible people and families who experience such a reality, and tangible data such as unusual marks the body, missing time and implants, which are the anomalies that can verify this reality. It seems that no matter how profound the evidence, some will still argue that it is far too insubstantial to be taken seriously. Likewise, they ignore any mixture of spiritual or metaphysical interpretations, or psychological and emotional evidence, despite the degree to which these experiences can dramatically change an individual?s personal paradigm. Such information may just convince sceptical researchers that the experiencer is psychologically impaired. This is especially true of any information that experiencers receive telepathically or express in other ways.

I disagree totally with such a limited perspective and believe that if we are to understand contact more fully we have to be receptive to any physical, emotional, psychological or spiritual data that is linked to this phenomenon.

ACERN provides professional support for experiencers. Since 1996 I have received volumes of data and personal testimony that have convinced me of contact reality. But I was particularly intrigued to find that, despite the enormous fear some people experienced (and this is by no means standard), many were more traumatised by isolation and judgement than their experiences. What I discovered was that such experiences were eventually life changing and transformational.

Are these experiences transformational because such individuals are exposed to a broader spectrum of reality or is it more than that?

I found that individuals who received support regained their equilibrium and accepted a broader frame of reality, which obviously changed their perspectives in many ways, both psychologically and spiritually. This integration meant that they now became more peaceful and open to their contact experiences. But I also felt it was their new openness to the extraordinary data they received which made their changes so profound.

Although such extraordinary data is treated with ambivalence, if not disinterest, by some researchers, it is common knowledge that creativity and artistic expression is one way that human beings express human experience. There is no doubt that contact experience can inspire some individuals to draw the extraterrestrial life forms they interact with, and that many of them look identical, which I believe is further testament to this reality. Likewise, they may draw unusual landscapes of planets, with which they can have a deep emotional connection. The landscapes may sometimes be strikingly similar, as are some of the artwork, symbols and written scripts. Sometimes they vocalise strange languages without conscious thought, and articulate them more fluidly than their normal human language.

In researching these matters we need to recognise our own limits and that we are unaware of what we don?t know. I felt that, no matter how unusual or challenging this material was, if it is part of the contact experience then we cannot afford to ignore it.

Researching a broader paradigm requires an open mind, and by that I mean being open to all data. Thorough researcher seeks to reconcile this data with science fact as much as possible. It is always profound and exciting for me when conventional science comes to the rescue and offers a possible explanation. But what is even more fascinating is when the scientific explanations are so similar to what experiencers themselves have intuitively understood.

Expressions of ET contact: a visual communication and healing blueprint?

The strange expressions of contact; stunning images, symbols, drawings of strange planets, languages and unusual scripts is a fascinating enigma. I initially collated such data so experiencers could compare notes. I found that, when shared with other experiencers, the material was extraordinarily helpful in assisting them to honour and validate their own contact.
The ACERN video Expressions of ET Contact: A Visual Blueprint? was an attempt to share this information with the ufology community and experiencers. We discovered that our lack of expertise in film making did not detract from the material or the stories. I am certain that the two film awards presented at the International UFO Congress in the USA came from the impact of these images, because they seemed to connect with individuals at some deep level, whether they were experiencers or not! The 2004 sequel video Expressions of ET Contact: A Communication and Healing Blueprint? was similar but explored the subject from a more global perspective. Again, the combination of languages, art, scripts and personal stories touched a deep chord with people, creating strong emotional reactions and resonance.

The average experiencer believes such expressions are contact communications, containing complex holographic data which helps us to connect with who and what we are. Energetic signatures, perhaps, containing blocks of coding, like holographic blueprints, which we absorb on many levels.

?It should be born in mind that the nature of extraterrestrial communications is that, in a majority of instances, star visitors communicate with humans by telepathic transfer of mental images and concepts, rather than by words and speech? ? Marie.

In his video review column, Duncan Roads, editor of Nexus magazine wrote: ?These Expressions of ET Contact videos are two of the most amazing documentaries you will ever watch. I don?t count myself as being a "sensitive" person at all, but I can assure you that I felt things "shifting inside of me" as I watched the videos. In fact, at least 15 minutes of one video that I watched I don?t remember a thing about! I am sure viewers will also be surprised at the large number and variety of different life-forms visiting and interacting with us. It becomes clear that as contacts between "us" and "them" progresses, more and more information is being transmitted. Amongst the many people featured by Mary Rodwell in these documentaries, most are currently of the opinion that there are many life forms "out there" that are trying to assist humanity ? now, more than ever. This assistance can take many forms; however, it is obvious that most of the assistance is via information packets transmitted to us.?

Roads continues: ?Yet obviously it is still early days in the "getting to know you" process, so a lot of the information relayed to humans is still very basic, i.e., what "they" look like, what "they" are like and how our "reality" is but one of zillions of valid but different realities. The interviews are most interesting and compelling. And the artwork "does things to you" when you look at it. The paintings of the ETs or aliens ("beings" is probably a better word) are just riveting. One gets the "feeling" of what the being is "like" just by looking at these paintings ? a result of the extra information packets transmitted by the artist, perhaps? ? These videos are more in the category of "spiritual awakening", but this is a result of the content and (probably) not the intention of the producers.? ? Communication and reprogramming of our DNA, by language, and frequencies?

Are telepathic transfer of mental images and concepts communication from aliens. SETI (the official search for extraterrestrial intelligence) still argues that they have not received any anomalous radio signals to suggest extraterrestrial life exists. Whether this is the truth or not, that is their official line. But perhaps extraterrestrials would find radio transmissions a very primitive way to communicate. If we listen to experiencers, they say it is more likely to happen through multi-dimensional levels of human consciousness.

?This communication happens because everything is made up of the same matter resonating at different harmonics, so that the ETs are able to communicate with us, directing thought on subatomic levels, and so activate subconscious interaction. This is interpreted by the conscious mind as a simplified form of communication, such as symbology. Symbols are meant to communicate the nature of the macrocosm.? ? T.T., experiencer (WA).

There is no doubt that such expressions although not yet consciously quantifiable, certainly connect to a deep resonance within people, in the same way as crop circles do. Interestingly, some of the crop circle symbols are actually contained within some of the symbols the experiencers create and it?s possible both phenomena may well be connected. Certainly we know that by viewing or standing in the crop circles many people feel something, as they also do with viewing the videos. Duncan Roads admits that, although he believes he is not particularly sensitive, he also felt something by seeing these images.

In the eastern states of Australia, a male hypnotherapist told me he felt that one particular symbol had affected his third eye centre, feeling a strange buzzing (interestingly this is the spot in the middle of the forehead through which some psychic abilities supposedly manifest). This certainly suggests that these expressions act as a trigger or catalyst for something within us. Some experiencers believe this data has frequencies which affect us energetically on a subconscious level, acting like a holographic program.

Is there a scientific basis to support the hypotheses that such communications or expressions can actually affect or talk to us, even to our DNA?

New Russian research offers support for such a possibility, which means that reliable scientific investigations are now actually beginning to explain what experiencers have intuitively known all along.

Some recent Russian DNA discoveries documented by Grazyna Fosar and Franz Bludorf in their book Vernetzte Intelligenz have been summarised by Baerbel. ?The human DNA is a biological Internet? with evidence that DNA can be ?influenced and reprogrammed by words and frequencies.? This suggests that ?our DNA is not only responsible for the construction of our body, but also serves as data storage and communication.? The Russian scientists and linguists have found that the genetic code ?follows the same rules as all our human languages.? In effect, human language did not appear coincidentally but is a reflection of our DNA.

The Russian researchers believe that ?Living chromosomes function just like a holographic computer using endogenous DNA laser radiation. This means that they managed to modulate certain frequency patterns (sound) onto a laser-like ray which influence DNA frequency and thus the genetic information itself. Since the basic structure of DNA-alkaline pairs and language is of the same structure, no DNA decoding is necessary. One can simply use words and sentences of the human language! This, too, was experimentally proven!? Of course the frequency has to be correct. (I recommend that the article be read in full.) But for the purposes of this article, the Russian research shows how science now can demonstrate a way to reprogram DNA through language and frequencies.

Experiencers who manifest unusual languages, such as Rochelle (see the video Expressions of ET Contact: A Communication and Healing Blueprint?) call these ?soul languages?. Rochelle vocalises them when doing energy work and healing. Healing with sound and frequencies takes on a new meaning in this context. It could mean that Rochelle and others like her may well intuitively be able to change or reprogram DNA though such frequencies while healing. We already know that our subconscious is affected by subliminal frequencies and hypnosis, and the Russian research may have given us a scientific explanation why such techniques work so well. The question is whether the specific frequencies of these languages are designed to affect or reprogram our human DNA? This may well give us grounds for reviewing ancient texts in regards to our origins.

This bible quote may be more than just symbolic rhetoric. In the Book of John (chapter 1: verse 1) it is written: ?In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God? and verse 14 states: ?And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt amongst us?.

The Russian DNA research article coincidentally mentions the changes in our children in terms of group consciousness. They comment that ?if humans with full individuality would regain group consciousness they would have a godlike power to create, alter and shape things on Earth and humanity is collectively moving towards a group consciousness of a new kind.? They state that ?fifty percent of children will become a problem as soon as they go to school, since the system lumps everyone together and demands adjustment. But the individuality of today?s children is so strong that they refuse this adjustment and resist giving up their idiosyncrasies. ? At the same time more and more clairvoyant children are being born. Something in those children is striving more towards group consciousness of a new kind and it can no longer be suppressed.?
Are the Russian researchers in fact referring to what is now called the ADD (attention deficit disorder) child? Unfortunately, because there is no funded global research it?s hard to gain accurate statistics. But, if the process of labelling children as ADD is an indicator of this phenomenon, then we are indeed evolving at an astounding rate.

The global perspective and more pieces fit the puzzle: Science, anthropology, theology, archaeology and the kids.

This short article entitled ?Learning to communicate with extraterrestrials: young children in India-China Himalaya use strange sign language? appeared on the website of India Daily (29 Jan 2005) by a staff reporter:

?In the deep region of Himalayas, people are reporting strange behaviours in children. The children are using sign languages which are unknown to their families and anyone around. Many of the children draw pictures of triangular objects flying in the sky. Many of them do not know what they saw and how they learnt these sign languages. Some in the region of Aksai Chin believe that these children regularly communicate with the extraterrestrials who are only visible to these children and communicate via telepathy. The children learn the sign language to communicate back to these beings. According to UFO research materials, some Mexican children also manifest similar behaviour, when many in the area reported for a long time UFO sightings. ? According to some teachers in the schools in that area, young children are extra agile and extra talented these days. Their problem solving skills have increased and they are much more disciplined. They continually use a strange sign language among themselves. However they cannot teach this language to adults! The locals in the area believe UFOs have been visiting the area for thousands of years. It stopped for a while and now it has started again.? (See www.indiadaily.com)

Families have contacted me from all over the globe, not only from Australia, Europe, North and South America, but Asia and Russia, and all describe children advanced from the norm in psychological and physical development and with exceptional psychic abilities.

In Mexico City these same New Humans have begun to emerge, and it is said that over 1000 children are able to ?see? with various parts of their bodies. In some countries, government agencies interested in such children are actively researching the phenomenon. China has a program for investigating children with similar abilities, which is taken very seriously by the Chinese Government in Beijing. The book China?s Super Psychics by Paul Dong and Thomas Raffill describes children with exceptional human functioning (EHF) who display similar patterns to Indigo or Star Children. They, too, are very psychic and intuitive, for example some have the ability to open flower buds by thought alone. And like the Mexican children, many have shown an ability to see with other parts of their bodies. They display telekinetic abilities as well as other fascinating multi-dimensional skills, such as sensing another?s thoughts (telepathy). It has also been reported that the Chinese government has observed these children changing the human DNA molecule in a petri dish before cameras and scientific equipment to record this supposedly impossible feat. We have no evidence to prove that these abilities are the result of extraterrestrial interventions. But, given the fact that the Chinese government is very secretive, this may well be something they do not feel ready to share. However, I am told that the Chinese are extremely interested in the UFO phenomenon and take it very seriously.
More pieces of the puzzle.

Although I can?t cover all my research in this article, I can give the reader some points to ponder. The late Francis Crick, Nobel Prize winner, co-discoverer of the shape of the DNA molecule and author of Life Itself, made the astounding claim ?that an advanced civilisation transported the seeds of life in a spacecraft?! One wonders what led him to such an incredible conclusion. References in religious and biblical texts certainly raise questions as to our real origins. Anthropology still can?t explain how we changed or morphed so dramatically from Neanderthal to Homo sapiens and the missing link has not been discovered or explanations given on how the developmental gap was bridged. Biblical scholar, Zecheria Sitchin, author of the Earth Chronicles suggests such answers could lie in ancient religious texts, such as the Bible. According to Sitchen, the Bible is a condensed rendering of ancient Sumerian and Akkadian texts. From his research he believes that Homo sapiens was a genetic upgrade of existing hominids which was undertaken by extraterrestrial beings called the Nephilim who came to Earth 450,000 years ago.

Indigenous tribes worldwide have within their oral history that they are visited by sky beings and are being genetically upgraded. The Dogan tribe (African Mali Tribe) call the star visitors the Nummo, an alien species which came from Sirius and genetically upgraded humans when they came to Earth. The Aborigines of Australia also talk of the sky beings Wandjina, who made them and gave them laws to live by.

Many sacred texts apart from the Bible raise similar questions. Will Hart, author of The Dawn of the Genesis Race notes references to God in ?plurality?. Genesis, verse 26, states ?Then God said, and now we will make human beings, they will be like us and resemble us.? The question is, who are ?us??

For those who seek to explore, there are many such anomalies in archaeological, anthropological, religious and spiritual texts that must guide the thinking person to question what we are educated to believe in terms of our origins and genetic heritage. But, the most compelling evidence comes from the testimony of children, many of them not old enough to read. It?s information so profound one has to wonder how and where they obtained it.

Mike Oram (experiencer) resides in the United Kingdom. He told me that he was only 4 years old when he told his mother that there was no such thing as death. His mother disagreed, but Mike said ?the Universe goes on for eternity and it?s not true that we no longer play a part in the Universe. We come back.? ?I was too young to know the word reincarnation?, he said. ?I then shocked her by saying "You are not my real parents, my parents are in space, and something of incredible importance will happen in this planet and it will affect all levels of consciousness, it will not happen in your life time but it will in mine." My poor mother never forgot that conversation.? (Mike Oram)

Colin Wilson in Alien Dawn (1998) wrote that not long before Andrija Puharich?s death he asked him what he was working on. ?Paranormal children?, he said: ?You wouldn?t believe how many of these kids are out there, they seem to be at genius level. I know dozens, and there are probably thousands.? Wilson concludes, ?And this, I suspect is the beginning of the change that the UFOs are working on? (p.309).

Unfortunately many such phenomena are only recognised through a particular discipline?s limited field of study, and this sadly narrows the perspective. There is no doubt that, for some, the extraterrestrial hypothesis is a hard one to swallow. But even if (for now) we interpret this data from a desire to understand why we may be evolving so rapidly, as this research suggests, we need to be open to all possibilities. Even if the puzzle is just perceived as another way of understanding ourselves, the question remains that, if we are evolving at an accelerated rate than cannot be explained in normal evolutionary terms, how and why is it happening?
Are Star Children, New Humans, Indigos and smart kids, etc, one and the same phenomenon? If they are, then the extraterrestrial hypothesis makes more sense. After all, it is ludicrous for the thinking person to believe we are the only intelligent life in the universe, given the vastness of space. And it is logical to believe that some of those other life forms may have evolved sufficiently to be able to visit us, even if how they travel here may be beyond our current scientific understanding.

The hypothesis of extraterrestrial reality is not only possible but also probable and explains many anomalies in our origins, our mythology and religions. Certainly, if what experiencers and indigenous people tell us is true, we have a very intimate and on-going relationship with the visitors, in addition to a common gene pool. This would certainly explain their continuing interest and participation in our evolutionary development.
The primitive and aggressive nature of Homo sapiens, armed with technology to destroy not only each other but our beautiful planet, may well be why these ET ancestors have decided to accelerate humanity?s evolutionary upgrade program. A New Human with multi-level awareness of our cosmic connection to all that is, may well be the only way we will finally appreciate what we have, change our behaviour, and grow up to take full responsibility for ourselves and this beautiful planet.

The Star Children could be an integral part of this wake up call and it may be that through them we are being led to an understanding of this profound connection.

Snooping on the Astronauts

Well, maybe not in those exact words. But three times a week, the two U.S. astronauts aboard the international space station write down their secret thoughts in their personal journals.
They write about their moods, their whines, how they feel, what they miss, whether they're sick of the food or aren't getting along with their roommates up in space.
It may sound like high school, but it's really for science.
These diaries will be reviewed by a researcher in California who wants to measure how spending six months cooped up with just two other people at a time, 220 miles above Earth, can affect outlook and morale.
"It comes out looking like a gossip column, I'm sure," said astronaut Sunita Williams shortly before she arrived at the space station in December. "But the point is to identify characteristics that will make expeditions successful."
Williams and Michael Lopez-Alegria, the station's other current U.S. crew member, are told to be brutally honest. While astronauts also typically keep public journals that are available on NASA's Web site, these entries will be read only by Jack Stuster, a Santa Barbara, California-based researcher who has been downlinking space station journal entries once a month since 2003.
The results of Stuster's investigation will help NASA and other space agencies plan for and train astronauts for even longer stays on the moon and Mars in the future.
According to the Bioastronautics Roadmap, the document NASA uses for identifying and reducing risks in space, some U.S. and Russian crew members periodically fail to work well with each other.
"Interpersonal distrust, dislike, misunderstanding and poor communication have led to potentially dangerous situations, such as crew members refusing to speak to each other during critical operations, or withdrawing from voice communications with ground controllers," the Bioastronautics Roadmap said.
Often the gripes have to do with logistical issues and inefficiencies on the ground and in space.
The Russian cosmonauts appear to have a more antagonistic relationship with their mission controllers on the ground than Americans do, the U.S. astronauts have commented.
"Some of (the Russians) feel obligated to argue about every little thing," Stuster said. "But that might be more of a cultural thing."
Stuster, who has a doctorate in anthropology, breaks down the prose descriptions into measurable data by dividing the entries into 18 categories and noting whether the tone is positive, negative or neutral.
He also notes how many days into the mission the entry is made so he can divide the information into quarters of time. Astronauts suffer what might be described as the third-quarter blues; their positive entries drop during the third quarter of their stay. Stuster noticed a similar pattern in an earlier study he did of French doctors living in Antarctica.
Former astronaut Leroy Chiao, who lived at the space station in 2004 and 2005, found the journal-writing helpful.
"I used it almost as a therapy for myself -- if I were upset about something or frustrated, I'd write that out," Chiao said.
Sometimes those entries were long, he said.

Lawmakers hear of interference in global warming science

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal scientists have been pressured by the White House to play down global warming, advocacy groups testified Tuesday at the Democrats' first investigative hearing since taking control of Congress.
The hearing focused on allegations White House officials for years have micromanaged the government's climate programs and have closely controlled what scientists have been allowed to tell the public.
"It appears there may have been an orchestrated campaign to mislead the public about climate change," said Rep. Henry Waxman, D-California. Waxman is chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee and a critic of the Bush administration's environmental policies, including its views on climate. Climate change also was a leading topic in the Senate, where presidential contenders for 2008 lined up at a hearing called by Sen. Barbara Boxer. They expounded -- and at times tried to outdo each other -- on why they believed Congress must act to reduce heat-trapping "greenhouse" gases.
"This is a problem whose time has come," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-New York, proclaimed.
"This is an issue over the years whose time has come," echoed Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona.
Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, said "for decades far too many have ignored the warning" about climate change. "Will we look back at today and say this was the moment we took a stand?"
At the House hearing, two private advocacy groups produced a survey of 279 government climate scientists showing that many of them say they have been subjected to political pressure aimed at downplaying the climate threat.
Their complaints ranged from a challenge to using the phrase "global warming" to raising uncertainty on issues on which most scientists basically agree, to keeping scientists from talking to the media. (Watch what a major new report concludes )
The survey and separate interviews with scientists "has brought to light numerous ways in which U.S. federal climate science has been filtered, suppressed and manipulated in the last five years," Francesca Grifo, a senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists, told the committee.
Grifo's group, along with the Government Accountability Project, which helps whistle-blowers, produced the report.
Drew Shindell, a climate scientist with NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, said that climate scientists frequently have been dissuaded from talking to the media about their research, though NASA's restrictions have been eased.
Prior to the change, interview requests of climate scientists frequently were "routed through the White House" and then turned away or delayed, said Shindell. He described how a news release on his study forecasting a significant warming in Antarctica was "repeatedly delayed, altered and watered down" at the insistence of the White House.
'Science and politics are intermixed'
Some Republican members of the committee questioned whether science and politics ever can be kept separate.
"I am no climate-change denier," said Rep. Tom Davis of Virginia, the top Republican on the committee, but he questioned whether "the issue of politicizing science has itself become politicized."
"The mere convergence of politics and science does not itself denote interference," said Davis.
Administration officials were not called to testify. In the past the White House has said it has only sought to inject balance into reports on climate change. President Bush has acknowledged concerns about global warming, but he strongly opposes mandatory caps of greenhouse gas emissions, arguing that approach would be too costly.
Roger Pielke Jr., a political scientist at the University of Colorado who was invited by GOP lawmakers, said "the reality is that science and politics are intermixed."
Pielke maintained that "scientific cherry picking" can be found on both sides of the climate debate. He took a swipe at the background memorandum Waxman had distributed and maintained that it exaggerated the scientific consensus over the impact of climate change on hurricanes.
Waxman and Davis agreed the administration had not been forthcoming in providing documents to the committee that would shed additional light on allegations of political interference in climate science.
"We know that the White House possesses documents that contain evidence of an attempt by senior administration officials to mislead the public by injecting doubt into the science of global warming and minimize the potential danger," said Waxman, adding that he is "not trying to obtain state secrets."
At Boxer's Senate hearing, her predecessor as chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, Sen. James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, had his own view of the science.
There is "no convincing scientific evidence" that human activity is causing global warming, declared Inhofe, who once called global warming a hoax. "We all know the Weather Channel would like to have people afraid all the time."
"I'll put you down as skeptical," replied Boxer.

Gnostics live in two worlds at the same time. They seek a divine reality, a realm within this world here, which is only a sort of shadow world.Historically viewed, Gnosticism is a varied set of overlapping religious traditions that often contradict each other. It is part of these traditions that every gnostic constantly invents their own Gnosticism. Living in a world which is subjectively felt and experienced as a "rotten place" (a Gnostic term), cries out for salvation. Art, music, hedonism, creativity, religiousness and all manner of creative and alternative lifestyles according to "Optimum through Maximum" or "Optimum through Minimum", hint at a possible or potential gnostic undercurrent of self-realisation beyond but through this world; or with Bowie's lyrics: "For you're dancing where the dogs decay, defecating ecstasy" (1974). Bowie created a world beyond his earthly (meanwhile wealthy) existence: in the manifestation of constant emanations of differing stage personæ who sometimes blended in with his 'real' personality but most often had been used by him to disguise his alienation from himself, from society and its mechanisms: this is the recurring motif of his quest for the authentic self. Most prominent in his personal history is the fact that when he was a child one relative (from the maternal side of his family) after another required psychiatric treatment, sometimes due to religious hallucinations. This sort of 'pain' is traceable in much of his lyrics: it made him strip "myself down" and fill the blank spaces left behind "with a completely new personality. When I heard someone say something intelligent, I used it later as if it were my own. ... It's just like a car, replacing parts." In 1972 he felt that his "brain hurt like a warehouse / it had no room to spare".As Bowie is one of the most innovative rock and pop artists ever, his creation of multiple personalities also mirrors pop culture, with its paranoid and para-religious myths of Star-Men visiting the earth, either becoming or influencing Messiahs, or else trying to live as unobtrusive Lodgers or Passengers among the Earthlings.

Deciphering of earliest Semitic text reveals talk of snakes and spells

A 5,000-year-old Semitic text dealing with magical spells and snakes has been deciphered from an ancient Egyptian pyramid inscription, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem announced Monday.
The texts, which were first discovered a century ago in a 24th Century BCE Egyptian pyramid, are the earliest continuous Semitic texts ever to have been deciphered, said Semitic languages Prof. Richard Steiner of New York's Yeshiva University in a premiere presentation at the Hebrew University.
The passages, serpent spells written in hieroglyphic characters, are estimated to have been written between the 25th to the 30th centuries BCE.
Steiner, a former fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies at the Hebrew University and a member of the Academy of the Hebrew Language, has deciphered a number of Semitic texts in various Egyptian scripts over the past 25 years.
The passages, which were inscribed on the subterranean walls of the pyramid of King Unas at Saqqara, Egypt, had puzzled scholars who tried to read them as if they were ordinary Egyptian texts.
Four years ago, Steiner received an e-mail message from Robert Ritner, professor of Egyptology at the University of Chicago, asking whether any of the passages could be Semitic.
"I immediately recognized the Semitic words for 'mother snake,'" Steiner said.
"Later it became clear that the surrounding spells, composed in Egyptian rather than Semitic, also speak of the mother snake, and that the Egyptian and Semitic texts elucidate each other."
Although written in Egyptian characters, the texts turned out to be composed in the Semitic language spoken by the Canaanites in the third millennium BCE, a very archaic form of the languages later known as Phoenician and Hebrew.
The Canaanite priests of the ancient city of Byblos, in present-day Lebanon, provided these texts to the kings of Egypt.
The port city of Byblos was of vital importance for the ancient Egyptians, and it was from there that they imported timber for construction and resin for mummification.
The new discovery shows that they also imported magical spells intended to protect royal mummies against poisonous snakes that were thought to understand Canaanite.
Although the Egyptians viewed their culture as far superior to that of their neighbors, their morbid fear of snakes made them open to the borrowing of Semitic magic.
"This finding should be of great interest to cultural historians, linguists and Biblical scholars" Steiner said.
"This is a sensational discovery," said Hebrew University Professor Moshe Bar-Asher who is the president of the Academy of the Hebrew Language.
"It is the earliest attestation of a Semitic language, in general, and Proto-Canaanite, in particular."
The texts also shed light on several rare words in the Bible, Steiner said

Saved by the kindness and hard work of a dear old lady!

To thousands of holiday-makers the Algarve is one of the most beautiful and awe inspiring locations on the planet. It has a wonderful coastline, perfect weather, pretty houses, spa resorts and a very interesting history.

Last year I took my family there for a Christmas break to escape the commercialism of our Western world and relax in the warmth of the Portuguese sun. I got more than I bargained for.

This wonderful part of the world is the home to the likes of our devout rock and roll personality Cliff Richard, and Dad's Army star Clive Dunn. It is also home to thousands of rich golfers and yachts men, all going about there daily business, soaking up the sun and spending huge amounts of money on their own entertainment. And yet, there remains a terrible secret to this holiday haven, a secret that shames the Portuguese - and mankind in general. It is a secret that local government officials take great efforts to keep undercover and a secret that I intend to reveal and use to shame the conscience of mankind into action.


You see there is a great and terrible suffering in the Algarve that is hidden from our eyes. Starving, brutality and almost institutional torture are rife. But this time, it is not ourselves we inflict this punishment upon; it is not human kind, which could not in this case be called virtuous. Instead it is the most innocent of sentient beings we could possibly imagine - the animals.


In this beautiful Garden of Eden, we torture, murder and starve animals without giving it a second thought and regardless of how much effort one special woman has put in over the course of twenty five years - the process continues unabated and untold.


You see, this cruel phenomena is not new in the Algarve, it is instead an old story - albeit hushed up. Twenty five years ago a unique individual by the name of Bridget Hicks moved to the Algarve to change the situation. In her time there Bridget created LAPS - the Lagos Animal Protection Society - and set about raising money and saving animals from all-manner of abuse. You see there was such an array of abuse that she found there, that Bridget and others like her struggled to make a difference - especially against the complete lack of interest by the authorities.


During her time, Bridget has managed to make some difference though. Those cats and dogs brought in to the authorities kennels used to be put down with strychnine, which simply kills with pain, causing a slow, lingering and painful death. Bridget managed to get this changed. But there is much more to do.


There are also those who come into the Algarve to provide what some call entertainment, but which in effect cause suffering on a level that we can only imagine. One of these is Circo Atlas, a French circus, which hides abuse and about which nothing is done. There is a polar bear - a beautiful animal that has evolved in the cold of the polar region - kept inside a small cage in the boiling heat of the Portuguese sun. When Bridget and others complained bitterly, the bear was given a standard home fan to keep cool, reducing the temperature by a factor of 0. There was a horse, so malnourished that its bones were sticking through its skin. Local donkeys half-starved and half dead, are brought in as live meat for the sorrowful looking caged lion. Pathetic looking monkeys are kept in cages just big enough to turn around in and a hippopotamus is kept in a dirty enclosure not big enough for a small rodent. This whole so-called entertainment fiasco is frequented by the Portuguese and tourists alike without any knowledge of the conditions of the animals.

On another score myself and my wife returned to the Algarve recently and saw first hand some of the suffering caused by ignorance and lack of compassion.


We visited Bridget in the Odiexere region and she took us to a local dam where one of the local water board workers breeds hunting dogs. Constant litters are produced and puppies selected for sale. Those puppies that do not make the grade are either kicked to death or set free to starve in the dry, arid heat of the mountains. The temperature here gets so hot that the Algarve is prone to many fires, which seem to be a regular occurrence and accepted by one and all. This is the landscape these newly born and innocent little beings are let loose in. We went to the breeders house, but no-one was home. This not very gentle-man has even threatened Bridget on several occasions - an aged, half blind and half-crippled old lady.


High on the beautiful landscape of the Odiexere region is a marvellous little restaurant run by a caring couple, one Portuguese and one from the Netherlands. Outside this oasis are tables and chairs where you can sit quietly and enjoy the warmth of the evening sun and drink a beer or two. As you sit there, the ghost-like figures of these beautiful sentient beings emerge from the woods looking for our scraps of food. The pain and discomfort caused by their sorrowful descent to death from lack of nutrition and regular abuse causes them to moan out load. A perfect evening is shattered by the conscience as you feel ashamed to be human. What we saw there brought tears to our eyes. Half-dead dogs running around with their skeletal frames visible through their flea bitten and lice infested skin. We spent our evenings feeding and trying to attract these innocent little lives into our car, but to no avail. They are simply too afraid of humans, and yet come to them, still with a small element of trust and faith in us for food.

Our last evening was heart breaking as we made a final attempt to save a bony female that my wife had found impossible to get out of her mind. This time the little lady dog had been joined by her equally distraught brother, who still had the strength to protect his sister. We tried in vain to save the two dogs. Finally we drove back to Bridget's house and through the dozens of barking, happy and saved dogs up to her front door. Bridget had managed to save one of the litter from the mountain and there in her outstretched frail arms was one of the most beautiful and sorrowful dogs I have ever seen. It was another sentient being, in the loving arms of a human who had compassion, taken from the arms of a world in which it knew not how to survive. We breed these poor souls and then we abuse them. We let them loose into a world they are not prepared for and they die slow horrible diseased deaths because of us. And all the time we drive around this holiday escape spending our money ignorant of the suffering that is going on right under our noses.


What we need to do, if we feel the draw of our own inward compassion is to act in anyway we can. We need to raise the conscience of those doing these barbaric acts; we need to stop the breeding programmes of people like our water board man; we need to get the cats and dogs neutered; we need to show the animals, who look up to us with their big dark seal-like eyes, that we care.


What can we do? You can contact either of the centres below and offer help or you can contact me and I will do my best to put you in touch with the right people. Alternatively you can donate money to these animals via me and I will pass this on in practical aid with the help of my wife who will be working on this project full time soon. We will also be setting up a volunteer bureau of like-minded people who wish to get their hands dirty and go out to the Algarve to help.

Make sure your letter is addressed to a named individual (instead of "Dear Sir or Madame"). Contact information for political representatives can be found at your local library or via the Internet.

Be polite but firm.
Keep your letter short and to the point.
Make sure the information you give is factually correct.
Be clear about what you want to see happen - tell them exactly what action you would like them to take and make it as concrete as possible. (e.g. " I want you to stop this now" is not as helpful as " I would like you to make it a priority to work with the Soviet Ambassador to find alternate trapping methods.")
Appeal to their Business sense: As a constituent, let your representatives know that the way they deal with this issue (or fail to deal with it) may affect your voting decision in the next election.
If writing to someone in another geographical area, tell them that his/her position on the issue makes you reluctant to visit his/her country, state, or province, and that you are now inclined to spend your money elsewhere.
If you are writing to a company, tell them you will not purchase any more of their products and you will be alerting other consumers.
Give the full name of any proposed law or parliamentary bill that you want to see passed.
Include your name and address and ask for a reply.
Keep the pressure on. Is there anyone else to whom you can write?
Write letters to congratulate organizations and governments if they make changes to improve animal welfare.

Heavenly Bodies

The Bible says that 'Christ is all and in all'. Did the early Christians and Gnostics understand man's relationship with the hidden forces of the larger universe?


The questions of whether early man understood and utilised the effects of cyclic patterns, electromagnetic forces and the closeness of his nature with plants and animals may be answered in the signs of the reverence he paid to these elements; his worship and ritualistic behaviour surrounding some of these basic and fundamental parts of the 'supernature'.


Cyclic patterns and rhythms dominate our lives, from the day to night patterns to the seasonal changes and their effects upon us. If we look at a few of the cycles, which have become important to man we can see how we are affected by them.


Day/night cycles are different in other parts of the world. Some have longer nights and shorter days, for example, and their nature has adapted accordingly. Seasonal Affective Disorder is purely the result of long nights and weeks. On the equator, where the sun is stronger and is out for longer periods, SAD does not exist and is indeed refuted.


In certain parts of the world we have four seasons. Elsewhere, the seasons are different. Tropical regions have two seasons: wet and dry. Monsoon areas have three: cold, hot and rainy. In Polar Regions, the temperature change from summer to winter is abrupt.


Man, animal and plant life have adapted remarkably well to the different seasons they experience. We have seen previously how the pineal gland actually measures the seasons and length of day. This is how we adapt to the various seasons around the globe. Many species, including some types of bird, can accurately predict the weather to help them plan migratory patterns. The Orange Ladybird insect in the UK has never been wrong in its long-term winter predictions.


The moon plays an important part in all the religions of the world. Lunar cycles and human experience are intrinsically linked. The tidal flow of the world's oceans corresponds to the waxing and waning of the moon, as does the menstrual cycle, which has had a profound effect upon our early and later religious beliefs.


Menstruation occurs only during the fertile years and had symbolic meaning amongst early cultures. The menstrual blood of women is considered with awe and fear and may have much to do with the use of Red Ochre by ancient man. This blood is also derided and called unclean (even today, the women of Judaism go through a purification bath seven days after the end of the menstruation), a poisoning of woman for her sins by the great gods, although this appeared to be a much later addition as a result of the subtle battle of the religious sexes.


Menstruating women were often kept away from the other members of their tribe or village. This may be why the witches? Sabbat took place specifically on the day when the moon took rest, and was associated with evil. Ishtar, one of the Moon-Goddess's titles, was said to be menstruating on this day. The menstruating woman is also seen as a symbol of fertility, and in some African cultures she is led around the home of one who wishes to become pregnant and asked to touch everything. The onset of menstruation marks the move from child to woman and was celebrated with Earth Goddess or Mother Goddess rituals and, much later, possibly within the taking of blood in the Eucharist.


The Sabbat (Heart-rest of the moon), the moon's day of rest, the seventh day, was later taken over by the Hebrews who turned it into their day of rest and laid waste to the maternal, lunar religions, and inaugurated their paternal 'sun god'. Christians took this further, moving the day of rest to the Mithraic Sun-day; the original moon day being Monday. 1


The sidereal lunar month is 27.32 days and the synodic lunar month is 29.53 days. Both have different paths and different meanings dependent upon your culture. In the sidereal lunar year there are thirteen months per year. This is a matriarchal structure and is more than 3,000 years old. Originally, there were thirteen signs of the zodiac in this period, the thirteenth being Ophiucus ? the serpent.


The instillation of a twelve-month period seems to have been an attempt by the patriarchal cultures to gain dominance, and thus we now have twelve months per year. It must be noted that twelve is a symbolically relevant number and should be watched for. The elimination of the thirteen month period has come down to us today with the persecution of the witches coven, which has thirteen members, the number thirteen being considered unlucky, but more importantly the fact that Jesus had twelve disciples, therefore making up thirteen in total, the hidden number of Mother Earth.


The moon is tied up in many of our early cultures. The names of its associated deity vary due to locality, language and ethnic differences, but are all essentially of the same goddess. Aphrodite, Astarte, Badb, Brigit, Ch'ang O, Demeter, Hecate, Inanna, Isis, Ishtar, Maja Jotma, Tsuki-Yomi. Some of these names have been carried on, kept alive behind the scenes by the secret cults whilst they were subtly battling or even creating the front lines of the new or growing male-oriented popular gods such as Mithras and Yahweh.


The terms 'lunatic' ('moon-struck') and 'mental' are both taken from the moon, under the impression that such effects are brought on by the lunar periods, usually the full moon. It is not surprising that the moon was denounced as the 'mad' moon when we consider the patriarchal and matriarchal battles, which were being fought across the continents. The idea was put forward that the electrical energy of the body became drained at this time of the month, and caused the person to lose his or her faculties. Two hundred years ago, Lunacy was covered by English law. Kleptomania, arson and dangerous driving have been shown scientifically to increase at times of the full moon, so there may be some scientific reason for this matriarchal lost battle.


The Jewish Passover is celebrated on the lunar calendar; the Christian Easter (Eoster was the Anglo-Saxon goddess of spring) is calculated from the full moon after the vernal equinox. The full moon at the autumn equinox is celebrated as the harvest moon. The Jews had many moon festivals, such as New Moon and Full Moon (see Num. 28,11:14). The eclipse of the moon is considered by many cultures to be the union of the Sun God and Moon Goddess. This belief harks back to a time when the known world shared a common Priesthood (see Secrets of the Serpent book).


500,000 births were measured in New York in 1948/57. The results showed that more births occurred during a waning moon and the maximum after a full moon. In the North Sea coast of Germany, most births occur at high tides as the moon passes overhead. More children are born in the Northern Hemisphere in May and June than in November and December, and vice versa in the Southern Hemisphere. Size of offspring has also been mapped and shows a noticeable pattern dependent upon time of year. In the 1960's, Eugen Jonas understood the lunar aspect of ovulation and successfully increased the effectiveness of contraception to ninety-eight per cent. When he was presented with the birth charts of 250 newborn children he successfully identified the sex of eighty-seven per cent of the babies from planetary information alone.


Frank Brown of North-Western University, Illinois, found that oysters in his laboratory, a thousand miles from their Connecticut shore, opened at the same time as their home shores' high tide, which in turn is related to the moon's orbital pattern. Brown also proved that potatoes, rats and fiddler crabs are all governed by lunar periods. Within laboratories, the metabolisms of various creatures fluctuated in response to lunar patterns and geomagnetic factors. Now, years later, research is proving that all known sea creatures, when taken from their natural homes, still obey the same lunar cycles. At the time, many scientists thought Brown to be dealing with the paranormal sciences and ignored his research.


The Sun - the Shining One, great light of the world - is venerated all over the globe as the light of life, the giver of heat and the most important cyclic symbol of all time. Our ancestors knew that it meant life or death. It was essential for the sun to return every day, for its strength to be renewed again each Easter. We say the sun is wise, and therefore in mystery plays around the world, light equates to wisdom. The strength of the sun gave rise to its being considered the most powerful of the deities. In the early developed civilisations the sun is always there. In Egyptian culture he is Ra, Re or Amun-Re. The scarab beetle is often used to portray the sun in some aspects, a symbol of self-regeneration and the early ideas of reincarnation. The sun is generally male and outwits the lunar female goddess as well as mating with her.


We sacrifice, dance (almost always, significantly, in circles), travel hundreds of miles and sing to the great light. We even give it human names such as Apollo, and include him in dramas. This, of course, hides a deeper and more symbolic understanding that the initiated, the ancient serpent worshipping Priesthood of the sun knew how to decipher. The cyclic pattern and life-giving nature of the sun is key to the secrets of the ancient serpent cults.


The movements of the sun have inspired tales of where the sun god goes and why he comes back, of battles fought and death overcome. This last idea of overcoming death gives us the first hints at how man has used the sun god fables and mysteries to hide the secret ideas of how we ourselves could be reincarnated. Thousands of years of begging the sun to return each day and be reborn each spring led ancient man to develop his own re-birth rituals and ideas of how to accomplish it. We copy the external and make it internal, in the same way we manifest the internal externally.


Everyday we rise with the sun. Our bodies release hormones, which waken, revive and regenerate us. In summer, our endocrine glands release more hormones that bring a sense of well-being. By late afternoon we feel more relaxed as the sun's strength wanes. The secret police of many countries often choose this time of day to arrest people, as they are more easily subdued. If we today understand how to utilise the power of the sun with the regenerative effects of holidays and by the dealings of the secret police, what did our ancient and less complicated ancestor do?


Sunspot activity affects our biorhythms directly in ways we do not totally understand. Evidence shows that it can be an irritant to our bodily functions and mental attitude. The Foundation for the Study of Cycles has produced some interesting results with their long-term research, including some of the following. There is a 3.86 year cycle in lemming suicides and North American lumber pine growth; an 11.1 year cycle of sun spot activity and serious upsurge in war and unrest (the next large one being 2011). The Black Death and the Great Plague coincided with this solar turbulence. There is also an increase in traffic accidents every 11.1 years, a rise and fall in hemlines, and an increase of volcanic and earthquake activity.


The stars, the myriad shining ones, also have an effect on us. Michel Gauquelin, a French psychologist, placed the hypothesis that we are affected by the position of the planets at our time of birth firmly on the doorstep of science. He showed that the position of the stars had some indication as to what line of work one may enter later in life. This was not related to the practice of astrology or the horoscopes in the daily newspapers, but a serious, scientific data analysis. The psychologist, Hans Eysenck said, 'How ever much it may go against the grain, I think we must admit that there is something here that requires explanation'. His results, however, showed tendencies within the higher professionals and the same response was not achieved with unskilled workers.


The study of the stars goes back thousands of years. Some say 4,000 BC Sumeria was the first to do so. Others put this even earlier and say that ancient man was studying the stars 32,000 years ago. 2 Their evidence is an engraved antler from Abri Blanchard, France, with a strange pattern of notches or calendrical phases of the moon.


With all the evidence on patterns, rhythms and electromagnetism that affect our bodies, it is no wonder that modern science has taken another look at the ancient art of astrology, which has been neglected due to the widespread misuse of generic horoscopes.


Natal astrology deals with planetary positions at the time of our birth. Astrometerorology concerns the prediction of major earthquakes, climatic changes and volcanic eruptions. There is much evidence to suggest that certain animals, which can predict such occurrences, are born at a specific time of year that corresponds to certain astrological predictions. Cosmobiology is the study of the balance between cyclic behaviour, biological patterns, radiation and gravitational effects upon us.


Ancient peoples must have understood the precise mappings of these newly named sciences when they too predicted such things by the stars. It may be that ancient man was using both his 'hidden powers', and the tools of the earth around him. It may also be that the ideas and symbolism of Alchemy were just a few more steps along this path.


The Indian sage, Parasar, circa. 3000 BC, used Natal Astrology in his work. Megalithic structures have many astrological and Earth alignments. The Pyramids map the stars, obeying the Hermetic lore of 'as above so below'. Ziggurats, temples, floor paintings, carvings and forty-mile long lines etched into the ground all convey the ancient and global belief in astrological predictions.


The very earliest almanacs contained weather forecasts based upon astrological predictions. In the countries of Arabia, the position of the stars was consistent with the weather. The ancient priesthood would have appeared to be in the know all the time, and therefore would appear holy and godlike; it was little wonder that they became incorporated into the symbolic format and titles of the stars.


The term 'zodiac' has a meaning pertaining to animals, possibly 'animal map' or 'circle of animals'. This is seen more precisely in the ancient Chinese chart where every star sign has an animal name. The zodiac is belt of the gods, which lies nine degrees either side of the ecliptic plane, and contains the orbits of the moon and the major planets. The sun originally traversed these minor gods on a regular path and the various signs of the zodiac were blessed with his arrival. That the word ?zodiac? pertains to animals explains why it contains animal symbols, such as the ram and fish. These ancient anthropomorphic beliefs were included into the sky, in the same way that pagan gods were taken on as saints by the Christian church. Later on, the saints received their own stars and were painted with them in ecclesiastical fervour. In some of the world's zodiacs, such as the Chinese version, there is a tree at the centre.


The Babylonians, and especially people in the Middle East, studied the stars mathematically and attempted, even as long as 5,000 years ago, to scientifically log the reactions and effects of the stars. They produced a calendar and perfect measures of time, essential for a people without clocks. Carl Jung suggested that the zodiac was an archetypal component of the psyche of mankind and he linked it with the theory of the collective unconscious.


The patterns and rhythms of the stars, with their gravitational and radiation activity have enormous effects upon our universe. But could they also affect us individually and collectively? The cosmic radiation hitting and passing through our planet is millions of years old. It comes in cycles, as does the solar wind. The cycles increase and decrease, but nevertheless there is a pattern. Our species has been on this planet, and life has been part of the vast universe long enough for there to be some marked and observable effect.


There are a vast number of other cycles in which we are involved, such as urinary cycles, sexual cycles, stock market crashes, epidemics and a host of other minor cycles. A study of history will show how generations experience the same mistakes, and successes, all in a cyclic pattern.


The Buddhist Wheel of Life reflects the understanding the ancients had of this cyclic life of ours. It depicts, amongst others, creatures of passion, stupidity and hatred, and shows how we endlessly repeat the same things. The Wheel culminates in the twelve links in the chain of causation on the search for truth.


We should be on the look out for common threads; links between civilisations and time. The web that man has spread across the many thousands of years is complex and cluttered. Historians would have us believe that various human achievements sprang up spontaneously and simultaneously across the continents. Mathematically, this is in error. There are too many coincidences, too many simultaneous eruptions of human culture and achievement, from the buildings that share a common purpose as solar and astral temples to the emergence of the ancient cross as a symbol (something directly linked to the sun ? see The Cross of Thoth DVD from Crichton Miller or the book, The Golden Thread of Time).


In 1957, Tom Lethbridge wrote a book called 'Gogmagog'. He claimed that Druidism and Brahmanism were linked and shared a common origin. Lethbridge believed that their ancient religion was somehow related to and existed for the Earth Goddess, also associated with the Moon Goddess and often cross-linked. This is true in that She was one of the deities worshipped by the ancient priesthood, to whom the Brahmins and Druids were related. The Earth/Moon Goddess, or Mother, had many names, Gaia or Ge, Isis, Astarte and eventually culminating in the Virgin Mary (Mother of God), and leading to the cult of the Black Virgin, which itself seems to be related more to Mary Magdalene than the Mother of God.


Lethbridge was so upset by the reaction to his hypothesis that he 'retired' to Devon and took up dowsing, itself uniquely linked to the ancient serpent worshipping culture. Unfortunately, the effect of this was to fuel his adversaries? opinions of him, even though he discovered some remarkable facts, which to this day are highly regarded by dowsers. He showed that different substances or items produce different swing rates of the pendulum. The pendulum is well known for being the most accurate dowsing implement and in Lethbridge's case this proved to be true. He found that the age of items gave a different rate, as did the surrounding emotions. A pebble thrown violently reacted differently from one thrown in a less aggressive manner. Work carried out by other dowsers has shown that while the rates differ between dowsers, the principle remains the same. This difference may be due to the rate at which the dowser absorbs the emitted energy, but it is hard to understand why the rates are uniformly different. If there had been a pattern of irregular rates this would be sufficient evidence to ignore the practice; as it is, we have evidence enough to require further investigation.


Although some of the conclusions drawn by Lethbridge are open to debate, we are left wondering whether there is any evidence for humans being able to pick up energy. As we have seen, electromagnetism is in all things and we are open to its power, as are animals. The theory is that we transfer this energy to the implements used. This may explain why some dowsers have different rates, but still keep the same proportions as Lethbridge's work. In the Vietnam War and World War 1, dowsers were used to help the Army find unexploded shells and locate mines. Modern oil companies use the skills of the dowsers to locate oil.


There is much evidence to show that ancient man practised dowsing, or radiesthesia, in one form or another. In the Tassili-n-Ajjer caves in the Sahara of South-Eastern Algeria, there are ancient pictoglyphs, approximately 8,000 years old, which show what appears to be dowsing. Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom and writing, and the Greek Daedalus, both closely associated, are credited with its invention.


The Chinese, the masters of Feng Shui, have also been credited with the invention of dowsing from the 3rd millennium BC. In the Bible we find that Moses (the patriarch who, according to Acts, had all the knowledge of Egypt) was adept at finding water with his rod. The writers of the Bible vehemently opposed the tradition of dowsing, mainly due to the fact that just about any lay-person can dowse, therefore could take the secret knowledge away from the priesthood and reduce their power.


Later, the Inquisition of the Catholic church found it necessary to stamp out dowsing once again, whilst many Abbots continued the practice in secret and even wrote extensively on the subject, albeit symbolically. What would be the reaction of the church if they were to find out that their own prophets, including the Saviour, practised divination? As we shall see later, they simply ignore the fact.


Among the other forms of divination to look out for is Bath-Kol: divination by means of the heavenly, divine voice. By interpreting this sound, the ancient Jewish prophets could announce the Will of God to the people. If ever there was a tool to keep the sacredness of God within the elite then this is it. This practice appears to be worldwide in all cultures but is carried out only by the initiated few. We can assume (based on our own beliefs) that this may mean a sound within our selves, but the archaeological evidence suggests actual sounds were produced using certain tools.


Necromancy, the art of raising spirits from the dead to discover answers, is another form of divination that has strong links with the Bible. The Witch of Endor, in 1 Samuel 28, summoned the spirit of Samuel for Saul to question. Saul paid the price for this sin, but this demonstrates the existence of this ancient practice, which stretches back to beliefs in the underworld or place of the ancestors; a belief and a divination practised all over the globe.


Astrology is a form of divination relating to the stars. This too was practised globally at the same time as necromancy.


The interpretation of dreams, Oneiromancy, is a worldwide custom and one which also appears within the pages of the Bible, as well as many other holy book from just about every other religion and culture from our ancient past. Sometimes the dreamer would choose a specific location and take an hallucinogenic substance to bring on a dream, which only the priest could interpret. In the Bible, the one with the ability to interpret the dream was the chosen one of God - the Shining One, a special person or priest. The Carl Jung of the day! Interpretations of our unconscious world is now common, but this reveals that it was an ancient practice ? and purely psychological with added religious meaning.


Scrying is the method of using a crystal or shining ball, mirror, or, more correctly and more ancient, a shining stone. Only a priest, or latterly clairvoyant, could read the message received. This art goes back to and even further than the Egyptians. Gypsies still use the crystal ball today. Hebrew tradition has it that Adam received wisdom from a shining stone, and Nostradamus used a bowl of water, as did Zeus.


Geomancy is the ancient from of reading messages from the earth. The word comes from the Greek word for Mother Earth, Ge or Gaia, and mancy or magos meaning knowledge. Ancient Greek, Latin and Arab writers tell us about Geomancy. This divination technique is also global and is referred to in the Bible, in some remarkable places. That such a paternal religion should be involved in a maternal belief is startling. The timescale of the spread of Geomancy across the globe is much debated. There is, however, no doubt that it was universally used.


In Geomancy, the earth is drawn upon by hand or with sticks and a response read. Special codes or symbols are used, which are known only by the initiated. The symbols are usually lines, dots or stars. The final symbol is probably the one we should remember as this includes the symbol of the fish, although not in modern Geomancy techniques. The Arabs used random marks and read these. In other parts of the world, earth was thrown into the air and the shapes it formed as it fell on the ground it were interpreted.


In China, the most complex form of Geomancy was Feng Shui (literally, 'wind and water'), the interpretation of the Earth energies and the use of this reading to discover where best to place tombs or temples. The Chinese use a similar technique on humans in acupuncture, a very popular and reportedly effective alternative medicine.


The Chinese called the powers of the Earth, 'Yin' (female, negative) and 'Yang' (male, positive). As we know, everything, including energy, matter, and magnetism, has a positive and a negative, so once again, our ancestors were there before us. Modern day dowsing has shown that sites such as Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Newgrange, the pyramids of Egypt and the ziggurats of South America are all situated on these so-called ancient energy lines. This is yet another example of the global aspect of these ancient beliefs, which spread through cultures without altering the ethnicity of the population, but fitting in with it.


There are subtle hints, missed by orthodox history, which are beginning to reveal the patterns of an antiquated hierarchy of special priests. Once we are alerted to their existence, it becomes obvious that they were there all along.


There are many belief systems in the world, but they all come from one basic and undeniable core, invented and evolved separately by the original serpent solar worshippers.

The Skull and Crossbones

The Untold Tale of the Templar Shining Ones



The enigmatic image of the skull and crossbones is deeply entrenched in the minds of millions around the world as the symbol of piracy, death and even poison. It was an image that has kept cropping up in my researches, whether Masonic or Templar or even as the symbol that the Christian Jesuits found themselves being inaugurated on, and so I decided that I needed to look deeper into the mysterious rise of this peculiar image.


Whenever we see a pirate ship on television, cinema or in comic books we also see an extremely ancient symbol ? the skull and crossbones. This however, was not a symbol of death or indeed poison but instead it profoundly symbolized life in so many aspects.


Many researchers of Templar and Masonic history have pointed out the links between this symbol and the one used by the Knights Templar on their ships. If we take into account the fact that the Templars had the world?s biggest fleet in the 13th century, and that they were well known for acts that we would call today ?piracy? then there is no wonder. The latter Knights of Malta were also well known for piracy and we find that these Maltese Knights were in fact the very same as the Templars ? having been formed or joined by the remnant of the dissolved Templars. These new Templars or Knights of Malta were accused on several occasions of piracy and henceforth we have tales of piracy on the high seas. There is a direct link therefore between the creation or use of the skull and crossbones by the Knights Templar and our modern day idea of it being a symbol of piracy.


But, I wondered, what explanation did the Knights Templar give for using the symbol? Where did they get it from? I found a strange tale that is told by most Templar researchers to link the symbol to them and this tale surprisingly involves the number 9, a mother earth image and a skull.


In The Holy Blood and The Holy Grail, Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln tell the tale:


?A great lady of Maraclea was loved by a Templar, A Lord of Sidon; but she died in her youth, and on the night of her burial, this wicked lover crept to the grave, dug up her body and violated it. Then a voice from the void bade him return in nine months time for he would find a son. He obeyed the injunction and at the appointed time he opened the grave again and found a head on the leg bones of the skeleton (skull and crossbones). The same voice bade him ?guard it Well, for it would be the giver of all good things?, and so he carried it away with him. It became his protecting genius, and he was able to defeat his enemies by merely showing them the magic head. In due course, it passed to the possession of the order.?


In another version this Lord of Sidon actually ritualistically marries the corpse.


I told this tale to several colleagues in-order to judge the response and in each case the response began with horror and disgust and ended with a lot of head scratching and bewilderment ? the reaction that the story in fact was intended to provoke.


Now such stories are naturally seen as macabre and the ?hidden message? therefore still evades us ? which is the idea. But as I was to discover, what is really being conveyed in these stories, is the importance of the union or balance, which creates a state of enlightenment akin to that spoken of by the Gnostics, alchemists and mystics. [1]


But before I decided this to be the case I wanted to delve deeper and found myself in an ancient world of symbolism and secrecy. There were more nuggets of information in this text, which needed investigation and I decided that it was about time the code was broken. I turned firstly to the main character in the tale, the infamous Lord of Sidon.


As a Titular metropolis of Pamphylia Prima, Sidon, dates as far back as Neolithic times. In the tenth century B.C. Sidon had its own coinage that bore the head of Athena (also Minerva a serpentine, feminine deity linked with healing.) I found that Athena was indeed the patroness of the city even though its people were sometimes termed ?a piratical horde? and Constantine Porphyrogenitus called Sidon a ?nest of pirates.? However the place did go on to play host to one of Alexander the Great?s garrisons for a while, which was used to subdue this piratical element for Alexander?s own purposes. Under his successors Sidon became known as the ?holy city of Phoenicia? and enjoyed relative freedom, with games and competitions attracting people from far and wide.


In 1111 AD the crusader Baldwin, who was later to become King Baldwin of Jerusalem, besieged the city and it was later to become one of the four baronies of the Kingdom of Jerusalem.


It was a very commercial, and in fact, warlike city, with a powerful navy ? something the Templars looked up to and emulated.


From early on, Sidon was a rendezvous for pirates, and even the slave trade continued after the fall of slavery elsewhere.


However, by the 14th century, and following the downfall of the Templars, Sidon was on the ?way out? as a player on the world market. The lack of water and resources - added to Turkish invasions - led to lack of interest. Sidon was not yet dead in the water though and flourished again briefly in the 17th century when it was rebuilt by Fakhreddine II ? the then ruler of Lebanon. Under Fakhreddine?s guidance it became a base for French merchants who used it as a staging post to further their commercial conquests. Slowly however Sidon again declined until the late 20th century when again it has risen from the ashes to become an important commercial and agricultural centre.


So this was a brief but relevant history of Sidon and its relationship to my story was remarkable. The fact that it was well known as a ?nest of pirates? was startling. I considered also the link of the skull and crossbones to piracy, especially as it was linked to the Templars, and the fact that the Lord from the skull and crossbones story was Lord of Sidon.


So was this Lord of Sidon mentioned in the Templar story really a pirate?


The links between Sidon are strong: Templars were highly commercial and indeed linked to slavery, so was Sidon. It collapsed in the 14th century, and so did the Templars. It had a huge fleet, and so did the Templars. In fact they were one and the same in many respects ? both feeding from one another. The leaders of Sidon were linked with the Templars and would have seen the Templar?s banking system as highly important.


As the Holy Land finally fell to the Muslims in 1291 I found mention of a Templar knight by the name of Tibald Gaudin who is thought to have carried off the famous Templar treasure. When Gaudin finally arrived at the Templar port of Sidon he was elected the next Grand Master ? or Lord. It seems that there were ample financial reserves held at the Sidon Preceptory and so the treasure of the Templars cannot have been gold or otherwise it would not have been mentioned. I am of the opinion that the treasure was the secret of the Holy Grail as I pointed out in The Serpent Grail.


If Sidon had a hidden message in the text then it was simply that the Lord of Sidon was to get the Grail from the Lady of Maraclea ? as intimated in the story quoted above ? which reveals, and rather symbolically, the means through which he could claim it.


Having now established a link between Sidon and the Templars story I wanted to move on to the other name given that caught my eye ? Maraclea.


This peculiar name I found was taken from a site that the Templars had previously held in the 13th century. I wondered whether the name had a symbolic meaning ? a name with a hidden message in the language ? why else would she be from Maraclea and not Antioch or Acre?


Initially I found the site was called Maraclea because it simply means ?Clear Waters? or ?Sea.? But I wanted to know why the Templars had used the term and began with the standard etymological practice of breaking the word up into two parts ? Mara and Clea. Taking the first part I delved into the world of etymology once more and found some remarkable ?coincidences.?


Mara in Hebrew means, ?bitter? and was a common alternative for Mary ? whether the Mother of Jesus or the Magdalene. In Latin it equates to mare, which is ?water,? ?lake,? ?sea? and indeed linked to ?horse? (female horse.) In Anglo Saxon I found that the term mara meant ?greater? or ?more.? In Buddhism Mara is ?death? or ?evil one.? Mara is said to tempt us like Eve and indeed it was Mara who tempted Buddha on the night before his enlightenment experience. I found this rather intriguing as in the Garden of Eden it was the serpent whom supplied the fruit of the tree of knowledge to Eve and therefore he was supplying enlightenment just like Buddha (and Eve as Havveh is equated with female serpent.)


This Mara of the Buddhists I discovered was also closely related to Rama, where ma equates to black or dark, a term associated with beauty and a term also meaning ?Great Mother.?


Baffled, but also excited by these etymological results and their relationship to the story of the enlightenment or ?shining? I quickly moved on to the second part of the word ? clea.


When I did look at this word I felt rather stupid as it was perfectly ?clear? what it meant. Clea means simply ?to clean,? ?to clear,? ?to be clear,? ?to be pure,? ?to be bright? or ?to shine!?


I also noted that this lady of Maraclea, according to theologians and scholars was thought to have come from Armenia. Rife in Armenia at the time was what is known as Paulician Christianity ? a Christianity that would not be recognised by most today. I decided not to delve too deeply into this theology, but did find that this spawned the Bogomils who have been linked to, and were even called the same as the infamous Cathars or ?Perfect Ones? ? i.e., ?Illumined/Shining Ones? or ?Pure Ones.? I then noted that other meaning for clea, - which was ?pure.? Could it be that this link was even well known in Templar times?


The feeling of stupidity quickly drained away as I suddenly realised what the term Maraclea meant ? a word that has been missed by thousands of Templar historians the world over and yet is a key to unlocking the secret of this peculiar text. I ran through the variants that were now possible:


Mary Pure ? well no, that didn?t work.


Water Bright ? this didn?t really relate.


In fact there were numerous configurations that I could have made. In the end I landed on two that just seemed to make perfect sense and related etymologically in the Anglo Saxon for both words - without mixing up the languages. The result sent a shiver up my spine as I realised the two meanings of Maraclea. The first one was,


Black-Clear or Dark-Clear.


Well this was significant in the Gnostic sense, as the contradictory nature of the words revealed the duality spoken of by the Gnostics and Manicheans ? light and dark, male and female. These were the two sides of our minds ? a revelation of our own divided consciousness. It was in fact the very same element spoken of throughout time as the generative source of all religions ? for by overcoming this duality and finding balance and union, or a neutral state, we become enlightened to our own true self and often enter a spiritual state of illumination or ?shining?.


The other meaning of the name Maraclea was equally astounding and related even more to the concept of illumination. It was ?Greater Shining?.


However, there was even more meaning in this interpretation. Standing back for a moment I wondered about the whole thing.


Here I have a Lord of Sidon, possibly a Templar knight, if indeed not a Grand Master, coming into union with the ?Greater Shining.? What could it possibly mean other than this Templar was a ?Shining One? and therefore experienced the Holy Grail of enlightenment for himself? The result of his union would be the head or skull 9 months later (although another version says 9 years,) and as I was to discover in my researches into the Temple of Jerusalem, the number 9 was of paramount importance to the Templars. The head was also definitely being used as a metaphor for this internal process, which actually involved the head or something within it. This in itself gives us a greater insight to the argued over Baphomet head that the Templars were said to have worshipped.


Strange also then that 9 Knights set up the Templars and 9 years later return to Rosslyn Chapel with supposedly the Holy Grail tucked away in a bag. But, I decided maybe I should take another look at the number 9, which is a reversed P ? something, which would soon become strangely more relevant.


I decided in this instance to just take a look at language rather than numbers and so consulted the Encyclopedia of Word and Phrase Origins by Robert Hendrickson.


?Nine days? Wonder ? Minor marvels, things that cause great sensations for a short time and then pass into limbo? Kittens, puppies, and other young animals have their eyes closed for a number of days [9] and then open them and see the light?.?

Amazingly this is mirrored in folktales, myth and legend and therefore in the significance of the number we have here a period of 9 months where the female is pregnant (and thus rebirth); 9 months or years for the Lord of Sidon to receive his prize; and 9 days before the new born animals see the light ? it all made complete sense.


So, the skull and crossbones is linked to the number 9 and again, enlightenment and the Holy Grail ? which are both seen as good, pure and holy. Indeed, was not the Holy Grail said to be the giver of all good things, just like the head in the Templar tale, ?guard it Well, for it would be the giver of all good things.? If this Greater Shining were truly the Holy Grail then it would bring him good things for sure.


?It became his protecting genius.? Others have found this part of the text very strange, however I understood what it meant immediately, and for confirmation I looked up the meaning in a standard dictionary and found perfect corresponding evidence for the Greater Shining.

Genius, inborn faculty. (L.) L. genius, the tutelary spirit of any one; also wit, lit. ?inborn nature.? Allied to genus.


So, this ?Greater Shining,? this ?head,? became his inborn faculty or inborn nature. The two were the same.


There is a subtle underground symbolism going on here. The Lord of Sidon (a Templar) mates with the Lady of Maraclea (a Cathar) and we have an inborn nature called genius. Suddenly the Skull and Crossbones symbol, as explained in the Templar text is revealed before our eyes.


At this point it crossed my mind that I had only gone back to the Templars. I wondered just how far back in time I could possibly go with this skull and crossbones image?


The earliest reference to the actual skull and crossbones I could discover was the Templar reference. However, taking the image as symbolic, which is what it indeed was, then we are looking for the shape ? a skull or head with a diagonal cross or saltaire below.


Amazingly, I found this in Ancient Egypt and on the tomb of Tutankhamun.


Carrying a staff or sceptre was, in ancient Egypt, a symbol of universal power. The Flail was used to beat animals (or indeed people) into submission and shows authority like the sceptre ? hence their interchangeable nature. The crook was a shepherd's tool, used to pull stray animals by the neck without hurting them. Here we have an image of push and pull. This shepherd aspect of the king is as old as Mesopotamia and possibly beyond.


These two symbols reveal the two opposites of the duality spoken of by the Gnostics, the push (positive/male) and pull (negative/feminine). Anyone therefore that mastered these symbols had mastery over the self and the enlightened connection or ?shining?.


Tutankhamun was seen with these devices held upon the chest in the diagonal cross form, making a replica of the skull and crossbones in form, whereas many other Pharaohs held them outwardly away from each other.


When dead, the king becomes Osiris, and I find that this same image is seen upon Osiris and is therefore his symbol ? a symbol of the ultimate universal power and borrowed by his earthly representative the Pharaoh.


The symbolism now becomes open to see.


Osiris is the archetypal resurrecting god ? a symbol of regeneration, akin to the power of the Templar in the text. So the Templar is symbolically the same as Osiris on Earth. No wonder that Christ is called the ?good shepherd? ? as was Osiris who was called the ?good god.?


So here I was tracing back the image of the skull and crossbones back into ancient Egypt and even Mesopotamia. It should have been no surprise, as this is the home of the ancient and original Shining Ones. And yet, amazingly there was more to come. I turned my gaze even more laterally and found another symbol related entirely to both the skull and crossbones and the Egyptian influence.


This separate and more obscure image also closely resembled the skull and crossbones and over it a ?holy war? has raged for decades.


The symbol is now commonly known as the Chi-Rho ? so-called because it is composed of the Greek letters chi (X) and rho (P).


The war over these two letters is fought between Christians and historians; between fundamentalists on both sides and yet both sides are missing the point.


The Christians claim that the Chi-Rho form the first two letters of Christ (Cristos) and the historians claim that the symbol can be found hundreds if not thousands of years before Christianity and was therefore usurped by them. I needed to look into this to discover the origins, meaning and why it so resembled the style of the skull and crossbones.


An identical symbol to the Chi-Rho has been found inscribed on rocks dating from 2,500 BC Sumeria, and was interpreted as ?a combination of the two Sun-symbols? ? symbols of the ancient shining ones. It was also used on the coins of Ptolemeus III from 247-222 BC, as well as being an emblem of the Chaldean sky/sun god and has the definition ?Everlasting Father Sun? (From An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Traditional Symbols.)


According to Sir Flinders Petrie - the Egyptologist - the monogram Chi-Rho was the emblem of the Egyptian god, Horus, thousands of years before Christ and is therefore a link between Horus the saviour, and Christ the saviour. I had already noted on several occasions the links between these ancient characters and so this was highly believable and conclusive. [2]


To others it is in this second century B.C. where the secret of the monogram lies with the Greek Ptolemy?s who are said to have ?borrowed? it from the Africans. In this scenario the Greeks called their version of Horus, Herecles or Hercules and applying the Greek Xpnc (Chres) to him. This suddenly gave the ancient Horus the title of Lord, Chrestos, and inevitably ?Christ.? This, if true, shows again the direct link between Horus, the Chi-Rho monogram and Christ.


Indeed many European scholars have actually identified Heracles or Hercules as none other than an emblem of Jesus Christ. I had to bear in mind that the name Heracles, is related to Hero and Hu, which means, ?shining,? but are also related etymologically to Christ, showing that these titles of the Messiah are directly derived from the word Heru which is of African origin and can be found the world over as a word for the sun.


But there were even more links, as I discovered. The Greek title Christ is, like Heru, also derived from an Egypto-African word Karast, and Kristos or Christos is the KRST (Karast). Karast is a person who is anointed (enlightened or shining) as a Heru (Hero) during his or her own lifetime. It is only when deceased that one receives the great term ?a KRST? or Ausur. This Ausur is none other than Osiris, the same Egyptian god I found with the skull and crossbones symbol with the flail and sceptre.


The anointing, in the physical sense, (as the anointing also applies in the spiritual sense,) derived from the body or cadaver being anointed with spices, oils, and resins to preserve it. The body is then wrapped in bandages, placed in a coffer, which is then placed upright to symbolise resurrection. It was believed that in the plural, the Herus (Heroes) or Krst?s (Christs) would rise again to save the world as fully divine beings and thus become the ?once and future king.? It seems then that this tradition came out of Africa, through Egypt and into Greek and Christian legend and brought with it the original symbols of Osiris.


So, amazingly we have a link between the Chi-Rho and the symbol of Osiris ? god the father of Horus or Christ. No wonder that a philological and historical war rages and that Christianity refuses to accept this remarkable link.


So, I wondered, what do the Christians believe this Chi-Rho to derive from? Well, I found that it goes back to Constantine and was an amazing propaganda device to establish the new Roman, and therefore to become, Catholic Empire.


The story goes that Constantine had a vision before a great battle and was told that with the symbol of the Chi-Rho, which they called the Labarum, he would gain victory ? ?By this sign, you will conquer.? Using the new Labarum as his battle standard, which would relate to everybody, Constantine took the field and the Empire was ?born again.? In fact, the Christians had been using this symbol secretly as a sign of their faith and Constantine (or somebody who advised him) simply picked up on the fact that this symbol and the whole saviour process was as ancient and widespread as I am outlining here ? and according to some ? it was used to plunder the treasuries of the pagan temples. Amazingly, on the coinage during and after Constantine?s death, we see the Laburnum or Chi-Rho, underlined with the serpent ? a symbol used throughout time and especially by the Gnostics for wisdom and the enlightenment process.


Strangely, just as the biblical term, Elohim, is a plural word used for God, and in reality means the ?Shining Ones,? the X part of the monogram is also plural (X=10) and is the number of Yahweh. Chi also has another meaning ? ?Great Fire? or ?Light? or even ?Shining.? The P (Rho) part is more difficult but has been related to ?Pen? (pen means, ?head?) in etymology thus implying that the loop on the top of the P is a head, in the very place that a skull would be on the skull and crossbones. [3]


I found that the symbol of the skull and crossbones then, stretches back over thousands of years and relates entirely to the ancient ?Shining Ones? ? and directly to Osiris, the Egyptian version of the original ?Shining Father? incarnated on earth. Not only that, but geographically it goes right into the heart of original Shining territory.


But, I again had questions:


Why the X? I believe that the X marks the spot in more ways than can be imagined. It is the crossing point of the two dual energies and it is the centre where the true enlightenment is engaged ? where the two opposites meet. With the upright world axis running through the X we also have a dividing line, but it is also a six-pointed symbol and is akin to the Star of David or Seal of Solomon, which is also an ancient symbol with much the same meaning. The six points are important, as they reveal the seventh point and most holy ? the centre of the X.


I was tempted to look into the infamous Skull and Bones secret society of Yale University so famously joined by Bush Senior and Junior, as well as many other extremely powerful individuals, but decided I was straying too far into the world of conspiracy theories that had little or no substance and so I left well alone. However, as I was to discover with the Jesuits, who swear an oath upon the symbol of the skull and crossbones, I found that the Freemasons also have this symbol and utilize it without too much knowledge of its origin ? or so we are led to believe.


However, what was intriguing was the ?degree? that utilized the symbol ? the Knights Templar.


In the George Washington Masonic Memorial in Virginia, USA, there is an anteroom with a large portrait of the Colonial period Grand Master Lafayette wearing the Templar Apron bearing the ?skull and crossbones.? The same apron images have also been found elsewhere, such as Michigan, Detroit and Jackson and I am sure that these are not the only ones, as several members have also pointed out to me that they too have seen the aprons.


According to Masonic history the apron can only be dated back to the late 18th century and to the revisions carried out by Thomas Smith Webb where he pointed out that ?The flap black, and a skull and cross bones embroidered in silver thereon.?


On another apron is described by Cornelius Moore in 1859, ?An Apron of black velvet of a triangular form, trimmed in silver lace. On the top or flap is a triangle, with twelve holes perforated through it; in the centre of the triangle is a cross and serpent; on the centre of the apron is a scull and cross bones, and at equal distance from them, in a triangular form, a star with seven points; in the centre of each star a red cross.? One thing is sure, Rho stood for ?Pater? or ?Patah? (the Egyptian god Ptah), which is ?Father.? Together they therefore make ?Shining Father? (Dyaus Pitar) ? which later became the Roman ?Jupiter? (Hu Ptah=father sun) ? the Roman version of the Greek father-god Zeus.

In Search of the Sacred Past

Ritual has always been an important part of man's worship and takes many forms ranging from ancient fertility rites to the communion of the Catholic Church. Whether in an attempt to reach up to god or connect to the Earth, the dramatisation in ritual of a desired outcome is believed by many to have a beneficial influence on the result. Many such ancient rites are still practised today. To try to understand some of what ancient man might have experienced, I contacted a modern pagan group and eventually received an invitation to an evening of ritual.


I drove to a bar and met up with thirteen very ordinary individuals from the County of Derbyshire. Their daytime roles ranged from graphic designer to solicitor. They were far removed from what I had been expecting. We had a drink and I asked the group a list of prepared questions. Why do you do it? Who do you worship? What is the experience like? Their response was 'wait and see'. We all walked back to our cars and drove to a private wood. The land was owned by one of the group and the spot in the wood used for the ritual a highly guarded secret.


It was a long walk from the car to the small clearing. The group told me to stand about six feet from the circle, which had cleared of stones and undergrowth. I stood in the cold light of the moon and watched as they opened their bags and laid out long white robes of silk and cotton. They then stripped naked and ritualistically dressed each other in the robes, completing the transformation with items of jewellery the like of which I have seen only in a museum. One male and one female remained naked and took up positions opposite each other at the extreme of the circle which I now noticed contained the image of a pentacle. With caduceus-like staffs in hand, they were a raw and ancient sight to behold. A peculiar feeling enveloped the scene as the solemn silence was broken and very slowly each person began to hum. On its own, the sound was nothing spectacular but as each person joined in, the sound became awesome. I recalled how I had heard Buddhist monks produce a similar vibrating sound, an ancient and mysterious noise that simply must have existed in man's repertoire for thousands of years.


One by one they each lit a small candle and began to walk, slowly at first but increasing in speed as the humming grew louder. The sight was eerie. The man and woman began to follow each other around the circle, like the sun and moon in constant cycle. The others forced the two closer together until eventually, and in an almost electric and sexual spark, they embraced and fell to the floor amidst a frenzy of pagan noise and movement. Several of the group motioned me to join in with their worship, but I was fixed to the spot in amazement that this sacred ritual was still alive and well just a few miles from my front door.


The scene mirrored their emotions and aided them in their obvious analogy of the ancient beliefs. It carried on for some time until it seemed the sun and moon were satisfied. We re-grouped, all very orderly, and returned to our respective homes. I was probably the only one who came away from the night's exercise without a sense of satisfaction. Although I certainly gained a deeper understanding of the mind of ancient man.


For ancient man to live, prosper and procreate, he had to understand and use the world around him. He had to know what was edible, and when and where foodstuffs would be ready for him to eat. His knowledge of the seasons would tell him to prepare a store for the winter. But what happens when spring comes too late, the frost does not lift and the store has been raided? Or what about the summer when there is no rain and the crops fail? In moments of desperation, ancient man cried out to the gods. The basis of human belief in gods is need, and our ancestors had a structure of gods that reflected the science, as they knew it, of the world around them.


A few years ago I had a friend over from Africa, a Pastor in a Pentecostal movement. He told me how his fellow countrymen and women were so 'alive' to God. When we sat down to dinner, the Pastor ate like a starved man. I had never seen such enthusiasm. It made me think about how we can carelessly toss a half-eaten chicken to one side, without thinking of the people without food. We can always drive down to the supermarket and fill up the cupboards again. The people in his village have an eighteen-mile walk, in searing heat, just to fetch water. This is why they are 'alive' to God.


In his deepest need, man cries out to God and finds strength and comfort in his faith. It appears that no one is immune to this peculiar survival instinct. In times of dire need, even a confirmed atheist may find himself praying. We, in the capitalist world, with all our needs and wants satisfied, are walking away from the idea of God. We may replace Him with mathematical equations or New Age deities, but we are not looking solely to God to fulfil our every need any more. The people in the Pastor's village, on the other hand, need God to bring the water in the rainy season, they need the miraculous powers of His healing spirit when illness strikes and they need the unity that God can create amongst them.


Our ancestors had the same needs. Water could be scarce or, adversely, there could be flooding, although in the Egyptian delta this was considered to be the wondrous work of the gods and was prayed for each year. The gods were needed to bring the warmth and life-giving rays of the sun, the most important of all gods even today, as we shall see. The Earth was worshipped and was believed to mate with the rising sun of spring and summer and bring forth her fruits. These basic beliefs were humanised as all beliefs have been.


We emerged with a triad of colour, red, white and black, as the first symbols of our life's needs. Black was emblematic of death and darkness, white of new life (semen and milk) and red of the blood of fertility or war. 3


Before we go any further, we should take a brief look at the origin of man. This will give an insight into a number of things. Firstly, not all the images we see regarding the origin of man are true. In our relatively recent history we have theorised about our origins from a purely rational and logical point of view. Previously, we believed in the religious ideals of God the Creator, whether this was from a Christian, Islamic or other main religious viewpoint. Unfortunately, in our rationalist zeal we have thrown out a lot of good information, such as the anthropological theory that folktales should be seen as relics of ancient cultures, and actual occurrences and beliefs should be taken seriously. 4


Secondly, and most importantly, we shall see the vast periods of time over which man has evolved and this will help us to see how the unified theory of a single priesthood, who held the secrets of the gods, could have been there almost as long.


The Universe, as we know it is believed to have come into existence 15 billion years ago. The Cambrian explosion (the lowest division of the Palaeozoic era) happened approximately 530-590 million years ago. Then, somewhere in the mists of time, man evolved from something. This last sentence is about as accurate as we can be, based upon current data, although there are many books stating our evolutionary existence and progression as fact. Regardless of these new theories, anything other than to say 'we evolved in some way', is hypothesis. There are tools in existence which have been found to date from 25 million years ago,[1] and yet modern anthropologists inform us that man (in one form or another) came from Africa between 1.5 and 2 million years ago, although recent discoveries are even altering this idea. Our origin simply cannot be defined with any hard and finite accuracy.


Approximately 100,000 years ago, Homo Sapiens apparently split into Homo Sapiens Sapiens and Homo Sapiens Neanderthalanis in the Middle East. In Bilzingsleben, Germany, however, we have found three circular structures made from bone and stone, dating from 400,000 years ago. In Terra Amata in France there are post holes and stone circles dating from 300,000 years ago. From 2.5 million years to 125,000 years ago in Gona, Ethiopia and Europe we have vast amounts of tools and religious artefacts.[1] Bones dusted with red ochre, which itself will become more important in religious circles, skulls packed with clay and held aloft on posts. We are supposed to forget all these things. [5] We are told about the few discoveries that match the theories and the remainder become anomalies, whether or not there are more finds from before their theories. There has been a recent upsurge of anthropologists looking more deeply into the dating of our origins and we should see some improvement in this area soon.


Africa is generally believed to be the cradle of mankind. Recent testing on the genes of archaeological discoveries has shown the possibility that this is true. The theory (albeit from very few discoveries) goes like this: 5 million years ago a type of hominid, which resembles modern day man, inhabited the south and east of Africa. Over 1.4 million years ago, the tool-making hominid evolved into Homo Erectus and Homo Habilis. The earliest supposed find of Homo Sapiens, who came together to form nomadic groups and set off to discover the world, dates back to about 200,000 years ago.


Migratory patterns have been mapped and show that these early Khoisan speaking peoples spread all over Africa. Their descendants were pushed out by incoming Bantu speaking peoples who had mastered domestication and agriculture.


The missing element is the tremendous number of finds that date from before this 'standard history'; evidence which has, for nearly a century, been brushed under the carpet. For instance, in 1872, at the Anthropological Institute in London, a presentation of a remarkable find from the now famous Red Crag formation in Suffolk was given. The collection of sharks' teeth from an ancient sea, which existed some 2.5 million years ago were shown to have a small hole drilled through the centre of each. Each hole had sediment from the Red Crag formation still in place, thus proving their origin. The peculiar and strangely fascinating 'error' was that the holes had been drilled prior to them having been dropped into the ancient sea, 20 to 25 million years ago. This is just one example of evidence, which has been 'ignored' because of the problem it raises.


It is highly possible that modern man may have developed alongside the other so-called species of early man. Whether or not he evolved from them, he may have lived and hunted alongside them. The early religious ideas of these mixed species were similar and widespread. The clay of the earth, or red ochre, had huge importance for early man, especially if we consider the earliest forms of the colour red as the symbol of Earth's and woman's fertility.


Early man developed his belief systems over a vast period of time, and the spread of these ideas began. But this did not happen in isolation, as standard science would have us believe. This spread of ideas evolved in earnest and built up into a vast power base, which differed from the normal political or royal powers, in that it was to become a spiritual power-base much like the original Catholic Church: the church that can be found in most, if not all, of the countries of the world. As the cultures, politics and historical backgrounds of every country differ vastly, the church base simply takes on some of the local characteristics and blends in; so much so that in future historical writings we may never know that they were there. And yet the religious power of this church has stamped its authority on the various locales of the world, sometimes to their benefit, but not always in the best of ways.


The church influences the minds of the people, changing the history of the country without being held responsible for it. This is real power: to hold it without being accountable, to have the knowledge for yourself and to use that knowledge for whatever means you wish, regardless of the longer term goals; to have as members royalty, politicians, philosophers, warriors or the military and the masses. Exactly how many church leaders become politicians, kings and queens or great warriors is debatable, but is not as many as those already in power who become members of the church and can become influenced by their spiritual leaders.


In 46,000 BC, a Neanderthal man was buried in the south of what is now France. His remains were found in a cave and his body had been packed with red ochre clay. This substance has become known as the 'blood of the earth', and it is believed that this style of burial was a symbolic returning of the body to the earth from where it came; a re-entering of the blood red womb of Mother Earth. Here we have a very different picture from the perceived view of Neanderthals.


This highly sophisticated ritual shows a remarkable understanding of the cycles of life and death: to rise up from the earth and return once again. If we take one of the future meanings of red ochre into account and work backwards to this find, we can say that it is symbolic of what the gods used to make man and therefore by stuffing the corpse in such a way it is symbolic of giving new life to the body and therefore a type of reincarnation or rebirth in the afterlife or ancestor home.


In 6,400 BC, a young Indian child was buried at the settlement known as Koster in southern Illinois, America. The body had been dusted with red ochre. Asking the gods to give the prematurely dead child another chance and dusting him/her with the symbol of rebirth could have helped the mind of the gods in their decision to offer the child new life in the 'land of the ancestors' or paradise.


This extrapolation is not implausible, as it is borne out by similar finds. In Swaziland, the buried skeleton of a child was discovered, which had been returned to the earth and dusted with ashes and red ochre. Later beliefs from this and nearby areas held to the idea of rebirth and reincarnation, so there is no reason to assume this belief was not held earlier.


Years later, Neolithic man was painting himself with red ochre as a symbolic gesture of his rebirth and initiation into the new life of the gods. In the outback of Australia, the anthropomorphic figures of the Wondjina, which date back to 10,000 BC, show a distinct red band around the heads of the priesthood. Evidence from Australia shows that they were magically adept at utilising and chemically altering the earth around them to produce the red ochre needed for their rites. The colour red was merging with the form of the life-giving sun: fertility and life coupling symbolically. The origin is not certain but it seems likely that the sun, with its spring morning red rays of life, representing the fertility of woman, was imitated on the human body and indeed in Neolithic wall paintings.


By 7,500 - 6,000 BC in the so-called cradle of civilisation, the Middle East, there were, cults of female, bull, sun and skull worship. The skull cult packed the skulls of the dead with red ochre clay and placed shells (symbolic of the sun's shining rays of light) on the eye sockets. In this area, the bull was often taken to represent the sun (or the sun in Taurus), the skull was symbolic of the human, and the female was the fertile mother earth/moon goddess, thus a trinity of beliefs developed.


In Catal Huyuk in Turkey, the trading route of the known world, sculptures of bull's heads as the sun god have been discovered. Here, the Mother Goddess was worshipped as a three-in-one deity who was also to become greatly important.


Red ochre, rebirth and reincarnation go hand in hand here. The archaeologist James Mellaart claimed that the cult of the Mother Goddess from Catal Huyuk was the basis of our own civilisation. There is no explanation of how Catal Huyuk built up its technical abilities so quickly. Could there have been influence from some outside source? Possibly a sacred priesthood, skilled in the art of knowledge and able to pass on a world's supply of such knowledge? Were they originators of such stories as Atlantis and Lemuria? The religion here was well developed and elaborate from day one. 1


Some of the skills expressed in Catal Huyuk were known in other parts of the world, but there is no evidence of migrating peoples. This has always been the problem when we have nations rising from nowhere and we do not have peoples disappearing elsewhere or any genetic evidence of inwardly migrating Atlanteans. (In fact, the Atlanteans were supposed to have sacrificed to the Bull cult of Poseidon in a ritual of cyclic nature, as did the people of Catal Huyuk).


At a site dating back to 60,000 BC in Molodova, Russia we have portable tents and windbreaks made from mammoth bones. Other sites, equally as old, reveal similar tales. Is there any reason why nomadic peoples, such as these (some say the Kurgans), could not have populated these places and been given knowledge by the ancient priests or druids?


For a long time, these early rituals and beliefs spread over vast distances. Local minor ethnic alterations will become more apparent as time passes and our priesthood will take on the various differences and merge them, almost cyclically, into first one front religion and then another. What will emerge first are the surface religions of the politicians and leaders, which were incorporated into the politics of the relevant race or culture, but below that, we will see the basic patterns of the ancient priesthood. These elements emerge directly from the reasons we hold our beliefs. The life giving light of the sun will merge into the god of the western world. The mother earth and moon goddess will merge with various identities at face value, but will always be there below the surface. The worship of a female deity is worldwide and where Christianity has taken root, the Virgin (and Mother) Mary has been substituted. Where Islam is dominant, Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad and mother of three (phases), is venerated. The stars in the sky will become minor deities and lead us through the seasons of life. Mountains, trees, animals, divination and symbols will all be seen to be below the surface of any country's main religion.


All the countries of the world share a common religious belief system. To have such a system spread over vast areas of the globe, especially when most of it is covered with water, would require an early understanding of the stars for navigation and a possible homing instinct with the use of lodestone, or magnetite. The technical ability to create ships must also have been available.


The evidence is beginning to prove that ancient travel was possible. In Southern Asia, there are engravings and cave paintings of deep-sea creatures which would have been impossible to know of without having gone out to sea.[2] There are also paintings of dolphins and whales. Boats that are capable of such travel have been discovered from as long ago as 40,000 years. In the Middle East, canoes hollowed out from whole tree trunks have been found which date back to 7,500 BC. Plato claimed that in the time of Atlantis (9,000 BC or 900 BC depending on how it is taken) it was possible to travel from Atlantis to the further islands, possibly America. In Holland, there is evidence of boats capable of carrying large stones possibly for early stone circles. The Biblical Noah myth, the Babylonian Gilgamesh Epic and China's Noah, Yu, who stopped the floods, shows that in pre-history there was a time of sea-faring beliefs.


In 4,500 BC, sailing boats were seen on the Euphrates in Mesopotamia using the stars to navigate. From archaeological data, it is possible to state that this basic belief system could have developed as far back as 100,000 years ago. This would explain why its tenets are basic to the core, and revolve around purely cyclic ideas, which no longer seem to hold any meaning to us (but relate to the outward cycles of the sun). So what beliefs are we looking for? How will we be able to recognise the ancient tracks of our universal priesthood?


Firstly, we are looking for ideas of the sun as the giver of life. This universal belief could have sprung up anywhere at anytime without outside influence, although when we see that so many other ideas also sprang up all over the globe the mathematical probability of this universal belief explosion is small.


Once we have found the Sky God or Sun God form, we need to establish whether there are any symbols or titles centred around this deity. 'Father' and 'light' are the two most basic, and many language different names stem from these titles.


The next deity to discover is the wife of the Sun God, the Mother of us all and many other minor deities. She is worshipped as the Earth Goddess who mates with the Sky God and maintains the cycle of life and death. She is also sometimes known as the Moon Goddess, mainly because the cycles of the moon coincide with those of women. The two great bodies in the sky mate at particular times of the year and fertilise the earth with new abundant life. Eclipses are particularly important for this mating procedure and many ancient buildings and writings show that this was eagerly predicted, all over the world.


Stars are also important. The great shining ones of the heavens; minor deities of the Sun and Moon/Earth. They inform us of the times, seasons and longer-term cycles. They guide us around our world and we can predict so much from their movements. They are the many eyes of the unreachable gods looking down upon us.


Trees too are universally revered. They represent the Tree of all Knowledge, of Life, of Sorrow; the symbols of life and regeneration. We can use the tree for fire, to build shelter and transport, whether by land or sea. Ancient knowledge of how to gain medicine from certain trees is being rediscovered every year. Trees provide the world's breath with their oxygen output. Clothes are made from the bark and weapons produced from the branches and trunks. We can dye our clothes using the fruits and bark, we even eat their fruits. Mankind discovered that communication was possible via trees, whether by burning the wood or by producing paper. In a more metaphysical way, the tree shows us the order of the universe with its perfect geometric patterns in the circles of the trunk rings, the leaf patterns and the clever balancing act of the roots and branches. There is no wonder that it is called the tree of life: we live from it as virtual parasites.


The tree figures in folklore throughout the entire globe and is central to all world religions. The Norse "Yggdrasil", the Shaman's World Tree, is an evergreen ash, which supports the universe. It has three roots, which extend into the underworld, "Niflheim", the place of the giants "Jotunheim" or "Midgard", and the place of the gods, "Asgard", the trinity of the Norse people. The tree is fed by sacred streams of living water from three sources. The highest branches of Yggdrasil shade the home of warriors, Valhalla, the Norse heaven. Odin, the 'Great Shaman', was sacrificed on Yggdrasil.


Vishnu was born beneath a Banyan tree and, like Buddha, was enlightened, or born again, under a Bo tree. The Biblical meaning of 'born again' is 'change of heart' or 'enlightened'.


Christianity has an intrinsic relationship with trees, from the Garden of Eden's Tree of Knowledge and Tree of Life, to the Germanic use of the hazel tree, with twigs formed into a cross shaped charm. In Celtic lore, the hazel tree was the Tree of Knowledge, the nuts from the hazel were believed to bestow wisdom when eaten. Teutonic belief has man created from the Oak tree.


The Maypole dance of 'Merrie England' is a relic of tree worship, and there is much folklore scattered across the world regarding surviving rituals from the tree worshipping past of mankind. Joseph of Arimithea brought a symbolic tree with him in the form of his staff and planted it in the Glastonbury Tor where today it is venerated by all who believe.


In China, the tree was trained into the now familiar bonsai. The practice, which dates back as far as 1,600 BC with the Shang dynasty, is an attempt to slow down the life of the tree and therefore render it a symbol of immortality. The Immortals of the Chinese were called the Hsien, or the Eight Immortals the part-Hsien. They were believed to live in the sacred mountains and hold the secrets of life. They looked into the nature of trees as being the elixir of life, a practice remarkably similar to the alchemists of Europe and the Middle East.


In Persia and Egypt, the trend caught on from the Chinese, showing that spiritual and philosophical ideas were widespread. The Chinese scholars and mandarins known as the 'Literati' were a sacred and secretive group. They travelled broadly and were the first to develop calligraphy in China. Much like Thoth, the Egyptian god of writing.


Australian aborigines say that a tree once joined the Earth to Heaven. It is hardly surprising that nomadic aborigines should hold the tree to be incredibly important when we consider that it was, and still is, vital to their lifestyle.


Across the world, the tree has been employed in divination, whether by using the twigs or branches as tools for water divination or testing love by placing two acorns in a bowl of water and 'reading' the result. Not surprisingly, hazel rods are preferred for dowsing.


From Asia to Africa, the Mediterranean to Europe, the fig tree has been venerated as the tree of plenty. The Roman god Dionysus was attributed the fig tree. Muhammad swore on it and Buddha is said by some to have found enlightenment under the pipul or fig tree. Adam and Eve covered themselves with the leaves of the fig and some believe it to be the 'forbidden fruit'. Tradition has Judas Iscariot hanging from a fig tree, infesting it forever with evil spirits, although other traditions have Jesus sheltering from the rain under the leafy branches.[4]


Burnt ashes from trees are said to be sacred. The Aztecs of South America and the Brahmins of India rub ash into their skin when preparing for ceremonies. In Jewish and Christian folklore, sackcloth and ashes are a sign of humility. The Palm Sunday practice of burning palm leaves and scattering the ashes on the heads of the congregation or simply making the sign of the cross on the forehead is reminiscent of various cultures around the globe especially in Africa.


In the Gnostic Jewish cult of the Qabalah, the Tree of Life (taken originally from the Shaman's World Tree) is symbolic of many things; the junction of the three worlds, water, earth and heaven, in exactly the same way as the Norse Yggdrasil. In Norse myth, the Serpent of Midgard wraps itself around the tree. The snake also appears in the Garden of Eden. In Sumerian myth the serpent represents the fertilisation of Mother Earth.


To some, the tree symbolises the 'Mother Earth' side of nature and the sheltering protection she offers. The Qabalistic Tree of Life is both the Tree of Life and Tree of Knowledge from Eden and is therefore symbolic of both the knowledge of good and evil and regeneration or rebirth. Trees are also believed to have developed eventually into the pillars of stone megaliths.


In ancient folklore, the dying god is almost always killed on a tree and so too is Christ. The biblical word for the Cross on which Christ was killed actually means tree. It was common practice for the Romans to crucify using trees. In fact, it was unusual to crucify using a cross beam. Jesus died fittingly on the symbol of re-birth and regeneration. He probably faced east, the direction of the rising sun, although as he died at sundown, he would have had his back to the dying sun, symbolically ignoring death but also facing it. Jesus therefore died, as above and so below, as the sun dies, it also rises again.


The fruit of the apple tree is said to confer immortality. Heracles went in search of the apples of Hesperides, the fruit of eternal life. The apple of Asgard guarantees perpetual youth. Some say that the apple was the forbidden fruit of Eden, although Genesis does not say what the fruit was, some say the fig, which is symbolic of sexuality; although it is as likely to have been an apple because of its inference of sexual and carnal knowledge links it with similar uses of apples in other mythologies: the golden apple of Aphrodite; the Hellenistic belief that the apple gives sexual prowess and knowledge. In Greece, the tossed apple was an invitation for sex. Three golden apples thrown were by Hippomenes at the feet of Atalanta, who wins the race. The Celtic "Conle" is given the irresistible desire to enjoy the pleasures of the Celtic fairyland by an apple. The apple is globally used in sacred rites and religious practices from the Druids of Europe to the priests of Haiti, America, Scandinavia and Greece.


The Yew tree has also crept into popular superstition. The ancient Britons planted Yew trees close to their Temples prior to the introduction of Christianity. The custom is not thought to have been Roman, as evidence shows that the Yew became the funeral tree of the Celts after it had already been used as a Temple tree.[8]


A Greek Orthodox legend tells of the importance and hints at the secret Masonic understanding of the cross of Christ. The legend goes that on his death bed Adam asked his son Seth to go and ask a cherub for some fruit from the Tree of Life. The cherub refused, but gave him a branch with three twigs instead. Seth planted this branch at the head of his father's grave. Years later Hiram, the master mason and architect of Solomon's Temple, had the now fully-grown tree cut down for use in building the Temple. Because the devil had persuaded Hiram to cut down the tree, when it actually arrived on site, the architect rejected it because of its inferior building qualities, and had the tree thrown east from Jerusalem where it later served as a foot bridge. Later tradition says that the Queen of Sheba refused to walk upon the sacred bridge because she knew of its origin. Solomon then had the trunk brought into the Temple where it remained until it was used to crucify Christ.[9]


The symbolism of this tale is rich. There is an underlying story, which revolves around the tree. There were three twigs sent from the Tree of Life - the trinity. Planted at the head - pineal, Kether. The devil wanted the growing tree cut down, causing a sin to be used in the building of the Temple of Solomon. The architect was too clever - masons should, therefore, be as knowledgeable as Hiram to obtain True Life from the Tree of Life. The 'Son of the Tree of Life' was thrown east towards the rising sun and towards new life and rebirth. The Tree was then used during its next life as a foot bridge for the people of God, the most humble of services, and later as the Tree of both death and life in the crucifixion of Christ.


This example shows that we should always be aware that there is more than one meaning to most religious stories or fables. Myths hold deeper secrets of the beliefs of man and can highlight how old some beliefs are and how they are interlinked. This Greek Orthodox story, which includes Masonic beliefs, also has links with older Islamic beliefs.


There are more links between faiths, beliefs and religions than their stories. One other sacred, and universal, aspect is the use of numbers. These hold secrets at deeper levels and often need a trained eye to reveal the true meanings.


There is not one faith on the planet, which does not in some way respect, revere or attach mystical significance to numbers. In some cases, their symbolism is beyond the science of modern man, and in others the secrets are known but kept hidden from the populace. Some would have us believe that God's existence can be proven via mathematics, and maybe that is part of what the ancients were up to with their weaving of patterns and strange hidden passages in the pages of the Bible and elsewhere.[6, 7]


Tales of Simon the Just from the Holy Land show how numbers are included in stories for the initiated. Simon's basic teaching was that 'there are three foundations of the universe: the Law, Worship and Almsgiving'. Simon was led by the initiated Shining Ones. We will come to understand who and what these people were as time goes by.


When entering the Holy of Holies, the most sacred place any priest could enter, Simon was always accompanied by an angel (which means 'messenger'). This angel took the form of an aged man, with a beard (symbolic of so many things), and was always dressed from head to foot in white, just as the Shining Ones always are. It may be that the story of the angel wearing black prior to his death was a sign of disapproval or respect, the meaning is unclear. Suffice to say that this image of Simon is a sacred and mystical one and anything attributed to him should be taken seriously. The fact that 'three' is paramount in Simon's most famous of sayings is important. We shall come to see just how widespread this idea of three is.


In Hinduism, Brahma is the absolute Godhead. With the partners Vishnu and Siva (Shiva), they are called the Divine Triad, or Trinity, and have become a three-headed deity. The supposed origin of Hinduism is Jainism. In the Sacred Book of the Jainas we have an example of the threes. 'One should ever make his own self radiant by the light of the three jewels,' says the book with all the secret teachings for those with the eyes to see and minds open enough to understand. For us to truly understand, to see the light, to be 'enlightened', we must utilise the three jewels. They should be followed every moment, without ceasing. The three jewels in question are right belief, right knowledge and right conduct.


In Buddhism we have the Three Fires of greed, hatred and delusion. These are the key reasons why people are tied to the perpetual rebirth. Along with the Three Marks of impermanence, suffering and substance built into everything, making everything futile and pointless, we should, therefore, follow the Three Jewels and escape. In Buddhist belief the Three Jewels, similar to the Hindu, release us from the clutch of rebirth. The initiate would say, 'I go for refuge to the Buddha...to the dharma...and to the sangha.' They are the path to enlightenment: the father, son and spirit.


The ancient Druids, successors to and practitioners of the Shining Ones ways, held belief in a holy triad: the Infinite Light or Beli, the Illuminated Man and the Finite Intermediary or Taran. Again these are much the same as the Hindu and Jainist and Christian beliefs. The Shamans of Central Asia believed in the same triad or trinity and held a similar Druidic belief in the three worlds of heaven or underworld, earth and sky. This 'threefold world' belief is an indication of the origin of the Shining Ones ? now known to be the serpent cult, it is the historical beginning of the major beliefs and traces directly back to Bon-po in Central Asia.


The shining serpent elite spread across the globe but were later utterly wiped out by Christianity in its zeal to take over the world?. But it missed a lot and these remnants are now found in Secrets of the Serpent: In Search of the Sacred Past. (see www.reality-entertainment.com/books.htm)
