Alright, let's do some figuring. Cat's clues are "see" and "time". Hmmm... Taking into consideration that Cat's spelling is terrible, we can assume that "see" is 'sea' and "time" is thyme, we can deduce that it is a device that cooks on sailing ships use to calculate the amount of thyme to include in the recipe for the on board Christmas dinner for the ship's crew. By turning the crank to the number that represents the number of crew members, the other wheel will then display the number of ounces of thyme needed. After all this is the Christmas season and Cat was probably thinking of that and posted an item that would be appropriate.

Or it could be a toaster that does double duty as a clock on board sailing ships.

"Bacteria that can cause serious heart disease in humans are being spread by rat fleas, sparking concern that the infections could become a bigger problem in humans. Research published in the December issue of the Journal of Medical Microbiology suggests that brown rats, the biggest and most common rats in Europe, may now be carrying the bacteria. Since the early 1990s, more than 20 species of Bartonella bacteria have been discovered. They are considered to be emerging zoonotic pathogens, because they can cause serious illness in humans worldwide from heart disease to infection of the spleen and nervous system".

Lonecat wrote:
Yes, these pictures are truly thought-provoking. I have some similar pictures which I found in a magazine some years ago which may have been the english publication Focus, though I am not sure about that. The photos showed what appeared to be trees of some sort and deep lagoons of clear water on Mars. I had the pages photocopied and stored them on a USB. I don't have that particular USB at hand at present but I will look for it this day or tomorrow and post the images a soon as I am able. I must say that I make no claim of ownership of the pictures and if any person should feel that I am in any way breaching the rules of copyright they should inform me of this and I will withdraw the pictures and also make an apology for such an error on my part. In fact I would be grateful indeed to have contact with the original source of such photographs. I hope to have them on this forum by tomorrow. Lonecat

Here now are those pictures. In fact I already posted them in my LONECAT IN ORBIT/18 but, as I never get any response from that I thought it would be a good idea to place them here too, where they will be seen. The third link clearly shows free-standing water in a sort of lake or lagoon. You can also see the tips of rocks protruding from the water. If you enlarge the image you will be able to read the fragments of text in English that accompany the photographs. I really think it is time for some authority, maybe NASA, to come out with some sort of statement on thes photos. Yesterday I checked with german websites about "Wood on Mars" and one person wrote in to say that he was more interested in the shing object in the background of the picture than in the "log" itself.

The universe will be there whether we're here to experience it or not. Movement goes on without us, we are not the egocentric force of all gravity and creation. We are reflections of "God", but there's no need to let ego get away with us and take the mantle of our divinity.

A British robotics expert has been recruited by the US Navy to advise them on building robots that do not violate the Geneva Conventions.

Yip, scandalous what these people get away with ...........

Here is what Paracelsus had to say about the medical fraternity way back in the 1400's already !!!!!

The utter contempt which Paracelsus felt for the narrow systems of medicine in vogue in his lifetime, and his conviction of their inadequacy, are best expressed in his own quiant way:
"But the number of diseases that originate from some unknown causes is far greater than those that come from mechanical causes, and for such diseases our physicians know no cure because not knowing such causes cannot remove them. All they can prudently do is to observe the patient and make their guesses about his condition : and the patient may rest satisfied if the medicines administered him do no serious harm, and do not prevent his recovery. The best of our popular physicians are the ones that do least harm. But, unfortunately, some poison their patients with mercury, others purge them or bleed them to death. There are some who have learnt so much that their learning has driven out all their common sense, and there are others who care a great deal more for ther own profit than for the health of their patients. A disease does not change its state to accommodate itself to the knowledge of the physician, but the physician should understand the causes of the disease. A physician should be a servant of Nature, and not her enemy; he should be able to guide her in her struggle for life and not throw, by his unreasonable interference, fresh obstacles in the way of recovery."

Agreed that there are some wonderful medical people out there that do wonderful work and are sincere, but when it comes to medicines and there effectiveness and their side-effects, I think most are led around by the nose.
