Dirty Secret: Green Cars Automakers Won't Sell You
The new Accord boasts an environmental first: a six-cylinder gasoline engine that's cleaner than many hybrid systems.
There's only one catch: You can't actually buy this ultra-green Accord, or the four-cylinder version that also produces near-zero pollution. That is, unless you live in California, New York or six other northeast states that follow California's tougher pollution rules. Only there can you buy this Accord, or the roughly two dozen other models that meet so-called Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle standards, PZEV for short.

or you could run propane/natural gas (substitute any other fuel here, water, hydrogen,100mpg super carb, etc;yes all these technologies exist and are suppressed by the auto and big oil companies)) and have near zero emissions. in an ironic twist, you cannot modify a gas hogging, super polluting carbureted pickup truck to propane or natural gas in california (and in many smog controlled areas). this alters the stock fuel and ignition systems and is a immediate failure on smog inspection, despite having undetectable hydrocarbon emissions; unless you pay a c.a.r.b. certified shop to do it (~3000 to do, i could do it for 900-1200 in parts myself).
in other words i should be able to modify the vehicle as i see fit, and if it wont pass the tailpipe smog test, then i cant register it. if it will then thats the way it should be.visual inspections are a joke for the above reason.

You can buy a Prius anywhere, that has a PZEV rating. Even the base model has this rating, & depending on how you drive, you can get 54MPG like I have.
I would love to have the European version of a Prius available in the US, larger battery reserves, the ability to plug it in to AC at night, & the ability to flip a switch to run exclusively on batteries.....
