I do not want to go listen to a song that causes folks to commit suicide. That would not be a good thing IMO!

I hadn't heard of this song or, it's history and have listened to it twice. I like it, sort of spooky but not dark. There are breaks in it where the music stops, I like that, makes it interesting. Really I think it's just music and not more.

Well then any number of songs can be called " suicide songs"...out of hundreds of thousands of people who commit suicide only a couple have listened to this song.....
kind of silly IMHO

Well I have to say.. sounds like a lot of Hype..
Having said that though, maybe he wrote the song with the intention of commiting suicide.. and then did so when it was completed.
Its a bit morbid at any rate.

I'm with faeriedragon on this one. Unless someone is going to do that anyway (and it can be anything that pushes the "go" button) it is HIGHLY doubtable that a song is going to make the listener off themselves. Having said this I also will not be clicking on the link as there is now the connection in my head about this song and I have just climbed out of a time where I thought of killing myself almost daily...so I'll be keeping my distance from this one for now. If I heard the song without that connection (like on the radio or something) it would have an effect on me like any other song but it wouldn't MAKE me do anything.

Sorry but I am unable to take the suicide claim seriously, the music is a bit drab and dull I admit but I can't see it affecting people enough to want to kill themselves. I am unable to understand Hungarian so the words mean nothing either. Perhaps someone will be putting out a cover version soon and is trying to drum up publicity ?

How about the 'Voilent Femmes' and their song: "The Country Death Song"?
it's all about being country folk and trying to find a way to kill one's self. More humour than anything.
All depends on the given person, we each have our trigger points and their associated times... Songs have little to do with it.

I can't help but wonder-how would we know that they listened to the song before committing suicide? Did they leave a note that stated "oh, BTW, I listened to gloomy sunday right before I decided to kill myself?"

Yeah, by the way mom and dad. Play this song at my funeral!
Question, they didn't kill themselves to the Halloween theme did they?

In the early-mid 70's people were killing themselves to the songs of 'Deep Purple' (obviously an arcane name, with violet auras and whatnot ).
What songs?
In the car, on 8-track!
Nobody gonna take my car
I'm gonna race it to the ground
Nobody gonna beat my car
Its gonna break the speed of sound
Oooh its a killing machine
Its got everything
Like a driving power big fat tyres
And everything
I love it and I need it
I bleed it yeah its a wild hurricane
Alright hold tight
I'm a highway star
The Deep Purple song 'Highway star' was in their 8 tracks on multiple occasions, in the case of many high speed deaths.
Of course, country music has been responsible for more suicides and murders than anything outside of GangstaRap.
If we all wanna decide that our 'moral majorities' are ruling our thoughts on any of this, that is.
