1942 Battle of Los Angeles
Summary: Imagine a visiting spacecraft from another world, or dimension, hovering over a panicked and blacked-out LA in the middle of the night just weeks after Pearl Harbor at the height of WWII fear and paranoia. Imagine how this huge ship, assumed to be some unknown Japanese aircraft, was then attacked as it hung, nearly stationary, over Culver City and Santa Monica by dozens of Army anti-aircraft batteries in full view of hundreds of thousands of residents. Imagine all of that and you have an idea of what was the Battle of Los Angeles

Nice to see you again lastone..
Good links there, I'll be nabbing that broadcast. I find this incident really interesting, mainly because it predates the '47 Ken Arnold, and Roswell etc. There's some footage of it somewhere on youtube, not much to see though, just searchlights and artillery fire.
Thanks

There are several witness reports & the broadcast as well as some newspaper stories here with the broadcast on the bottom of the page. This is the second page of the story, by the way.
The memo sent to FDR about the incident is here & his response is here.
I wonder what might have happened if the UFO wave had happened prior to this incident. I'd like to see that footage though. That "The Presidents UFO Web Site" has some pretty cool stuff in it.

Wouldn't you know we lived in San Pedro 50 years too late.
Great links here! I didn't know it came around twice, also don't know any plane that can fly that slow.
Again, fantastic links! Thank you all!

I have always liked this sighting A LOT. There were hundreds of witnesses..and it lasted for a very long time..compared to most sightings..
The thing that really blows me away, is the nearly 1500 rounds of artillery fired at the craft..and not one..hitting it..before it moved on..
I can just imagine the looks on the generals faces when they are ordered to say that it was a balloon...that they could not hit even once.. How pathetically embarrassing that would be..

Back on Topic.
Somehow in all my research (I must admit it's not very thourough (sp?)) I have never come across this story. It is very interesting and seems to have triggered smething in my brain, yet another step to unlocking myself.

Probably promote you to Alaska..if you don't follow orders and admit that it's a balloon.
Hey MatEthers, this is one of the best sightings ever in my books..It has the media, police, military and hundreds of witnesses from all walks of life!
If this event was to take place today..with the communications and the abilities we have to record..it would be a smoking gun.
But, instead it was buried and covered in dust..only to be swept off once in a while..then forgotten about again.. Still..one of the best..if not THE best ever sighting.

Let's see now...there's a one star general, a two star general, three and four. After that, yup it's Alaska!
Can you imagine if it happened today!? Well, it probably has in Iraq. Lots of things happen and we don't know and we'd surely not know about anything like this unless it crashed in a city. But I don't think a crash would happen if it was only being fired at. From all I've read it's radar that would be the downfall.
