Hello all ............
Caught Daddio online yesterday morning (South African) time and sent him an IM to which he responded. So I guess he is back ......
Just checked, he is online again.

Ever feel like you should carry a rain suit and a squeegy?
I have been struggling to keep my sense of humor lately.
I must thank all of you for your concerns and prayers,I do appreciate your friendship and well wish's.
The broken jaw has healed nicely.Still,it's not the same as it was before.I lost three teeth in the deal too,a wisdom tooth that was an aggravating floater and a root canal and cap.All replaced by a state of the art partial.Still adjusting to that.
On Jan.9th./07.We received notice that our children's school was being considered for closure due to governmental shortcoming's.We held open forum's and compiled a strategy as how to hedge the final decision in our favor. The ball was rolling and volunteer's,passionate parents, petition's to sign ,door to door in frigid temperatures. We rallied as a community and in the end presented a pretty good case for not closing the school,as well as alternate ways to raise the fund's needed to sustain our beloved Ecole Ross School.
Since I had my jaw wired it was a frustrating time for me. So I volunteered to answer e-mails and arrange meetings and basically organize behind the scene's from my basement office.I spent seven day's in my little cubicle before I noticed that my dog Pee Wee would no longer follow me downstairs.Normally he is my shadow.
Since I was painting my daughters bed I thought the paint fumes scared him off and went back to painting.I finished the last coat, answered a couple business calls and notice a pain in the noggin'.I took this as a sign to shut down for the day.Within the hour I felt ill, stomach twisting, head knocking. Then it hit me.What will I do if I have to hurl?My jaw is wired!!!
Wifey had me in Emergency within ten minute's.I was admitted and put under observation.Six hour's later my Doctor strolls in and informs me that I have been exposed to Radon and my family is also being tested for symptom's.
Everyone came back with a clean bill of health but me,they held me for three day's concerned that I may spew and cause my own demise. Two blood transfusions which were referred to as cleansings's and three day's of crumby food later I was deemed fit to go home.
Problem being that during my convalescence our home was declared a health hazard by the board of health and unfit for human habitation.Jan.18th./07 I move back out to the farm while the rest of the gang stays in town with a very understanding neighbor.
Luckily our lease agreement states that any repairs that are to be made whether structural/mechanical.Must be made within thirty day's of notification. The Radon leak was found to be a large crack in the floor of my office.I have to say that my friend Don Lindenbrecht who I have leased the house from has out done himself in regard to rectifying the situation. We moved back in March 1st./07.My office is gone and the basement gutted, but on the plus side Don has informed me that we can rebuild to our own taste's and bill him just as long as no one penetrates the new cement floor.
Much more going on that I will share. That being the primary reason for my absence from BoT.
Katsmeow-They are burning but that's from the frost bite.
Momma-Two more credit's,English 30 A&B.
Nebula-We had a llama birth on the farm and I named her Nebula due to her resemblance to the Horsehead Nebula.
Poppy-You are the best. One day I'll post my pic. and show your avatar who has the best hair.
O.T.,Entity,Kira,Graham-Thanks.
Back in the peapatch,Daddio.

Thanks for that Momma,No time to write a book right now.
Radon as it was explained to me,is a by product emitted by uranium as it breaks down naturally in the earth. The conversation got a little over my head when they started talking half life's,polonium, and parts per million.
In our case though the city engineer's told us that the city sewer lines were in very bad shape and sewer gas could have found it's way into our home through cracks in the foundation.Much of the city's sewer system is antiquated and in need of replacement since leaks are abundant. Not to mention the fact that we have been bobbing up and down the thermometer from above 0 c to -40 c in a 24 hr period, all winter. That wreaks havoc on anything in the ground.
Just glad the whole affair is behind me.I had to get nasty with some people I really like.
As for the school I hope we made a difference. The choice is out of our hands, but we will not go down without a fight. We are awaiting a rematch, this time we have a couple political faces in the crowd not to mention a bit of experience.
All my best to you Momma, you too Poppa.

Dang Daddio, what an odd turn of events. I think I will take my favorite stone and have a good prayer for you today and your children's school.
As you know, you are in our thoughts. Well done with English classes! Its interesting your dog acted much like a canary in mines. Never heard of that in relation to radon, but that is one smart pup.
Take care of yourself and do you still sing in the band or a band? Probably not alot of time now. Stay strong and well.

You do not live a dull life, Daddio. LOL This is another example of how our animal friends often know more than we do. Hope you and your family and friends start having some smoother sailing now, or wood that be too dull?
Congratulations on your classes and your overall way of looking at life.

Daddio! Good to see you back around, & thanks for the report on what's been happening. Radon poisoning! I've heard of it happening, but you're the first person who's had a firsthand experience with it. I do hope you've recovered, I understand that can be fairly nasty. Good thoughts for your studies, & I hope things have smoothed out a bit for you.

Good to hear from you, Daddio. Good heavens, what a scary story! Glad it's not having a sad ending, though. And that's a cool story about the baby llama, too. The Horsehead is my favorite nebula as well.
I hope we will be seeing you more often here on BoT.

Gosh Daddio! You're one lucky guy to be OK...Radiochemistry happens to be my thing, so if you want an explanation, feel free to e-mail me.
Just glad you're OK bud. Take care of yourself and your family, and pop in whenever you can. Obviously, we miss you around here.

Thank you!
BoTnic's Rule!
Kat my pooch Pee Wee is the surest proof of gravity, since it can hold him in one spot for hour's. ,and his appreciation of the stairs in our house is minimal.(33 step's in our 3 storey)That is how I view his reaction,he simply had enough of me running up and down the stair's,confident that I would pass by again before he evaporated,he chose to crash on the carpet. Now if I would have had the canary in hand I would have had his full attention for sure. Thanks for the prayer's you are a sweatheart.
And yes I do perform with The Sky Pilot's on a regular basis and have started playing with another group at school nothing serious just a bunch of student's and instructor's making noise and sharing a few laughs.
It's never boring around here, for sure Poppy!I am however taking a week of Daddio time.Since classes for me are over for the next 6week's.This past Friday was my last class until April 23rd.I have a week to myself out here, kid's are in town with Wifey so ,yea it's quiet. It's calving season around here and I have 20 bred heifer's to keep an eye on.The neighbor's all have calve's arriving daily and I like to help out when they let me.Too much time on my hand's often finds me looking over the neighbors fence for thing's to do.
The Bubba Clan? This is a bit of a reunion then.I too have a few Bubba's in my closet.Thank you, fellow Clansman.
The owl, harbinger of tiding's, good and bad.I have a connection to bird's of prey.Had a Red Tail Hawk as a friend when I was a kid,I also have a scar on my left bicep that was put there by a Bald Eagle. It was a demonstration at a Forestry Farm that was regular fare for the tourist's and field tripper's.I was the brave volunteer who stood beside the trainer when the hood was lifted, the bird went sort of freaky and clawed me with it's beak. Not a real wound but a deep scratch that left a cresent scar, and the braggin right's to such a tale.I have a couple others bird encounters that I will post some day soon.
SSurfer,O.T.Always good to be here or anywhere!Thank you gentlemen, kind word's.
Nebula,I'm like Disney, no unhappily ever after!
Gratefully,Daddio.

Oh man! You need to write a book!
This has been such a whorlewind read that all I can say is so glad your back DADDIO!!! An excellent example of how strong we can be when we put our minds to it. Seems we need a collective mind set at the moment 'cause things are just horrible!
I can't tell you how I wish the best for you! The school and everything else!

As far as writing a book goes I have no time. Not to mention that I have three novel's on the back burner collecting dust and mold.
Had a visit with my quack this morning and was informed that there seems to be no reason for concern at the moment since all test came back negative for traces of radon.
I had a look at some cat scan image's of my pea picker and can verify that there is nothing there just as he stated.
The broken jaw was more an inconvenience than a setback.I loved the shakes and the weight loss(18 pounds lost, same as our X-mas turkey),but on the other hand was glad to have a solid meal too.
I put together a flyer to invite our community to a S.O.S.(Save Our School) meeting this Saturday, and be damned if the guy we chose to handle the printing and distribution got the web address wrong on the flyer so now my phone is ringing off the wall.It seems lately,if it can go wrong it does.
As far as my spirit or strength,I draw from my family all that I can.Not to mention a few choice friend's.Tomorrow I will visit with a few and recharge .
Wifey is such a wit,she was consoling me after the initial foray in the ring with the Prairie South School Division was over, and quietly told me,"Don't get so down on yourself Daddio,Samson could not have accomplished as much with a Broken jaw bone of an ass."
I love that gal!
Hope's and prayer's to you and yours,Kira.
From the pea patch.

All is well in the world of Daddio,I have been keeping busy trying to organise a trek into an area in North Eastern Sask.known as the Wildcat Hills. The Wildcat Hills is an area of about a hundred sq.km.that sits just inside the Sask. side of the Saskatchewan,Manitoba border.
I'll give you all a bit of background on how I ended up working on this project.Last spring I decided that I would return to school in order to gain my High School diploma, and it didn't take long for me to tap in to the spirit of the place.Help and advice to no end,and I mean that in a good way.
Yvonne the Adult Ed.Co-ordinator,and fellow North American Indian.Hands me a billet that states a movie is being filmed in the area and that they are looking for traditional native people to cast as extras.I attended a casting call locally and was then asked to another more formal casting call in Toronto.None of this cost me a penny except for the rental back home which was my idea.
Turns out that the emaciated down trodden look is what they wanted so....I didn't fit the bill.(6 foot 2 and 225 pounds)I thought the interview was over when a little gal asks in a weak voice,"Would you consider a position as animal wrangler"?
After having the position explained to me I accepted. Not what I expected but fruitful none the less.
Six days in July with a bunch of smelly animals and equally smelly technicians and actors sort of had me hooked.A lot of friend were made and connections to others interested in the same things as myself. All of the scenes were outdoors and had to be shot in the day which left our evenings open to alot of campfire and friendship.
Alan Fey was introduced to me as a student filmaker, and as I have found out is the salt of the earth, with a passion for nature. One of my campfire tales stuck in his mind, this past Dec.Alan calls me to ask if we could work together on an idea of his.Which is to do a film on this area that has yet to see the shortcomings of man.Since the area is protected and modern autos, qaud's and the like are forbidden,an outfitter was needed that knew the lay of the land.
I grew up trapping and hunting the Pasqau Hill's area that encompasses the Wild Cat Hill's.It is an untamed beauty where herd's of Elk and Blacktail Deer have no fear of a man on horseback.High plains that are criss crossed by streams, thick stands of birch, and not a power pole in sight.I have seen every manner of beast while visiting their home and a few things that just don't make sense.Cement pads in the middle of no where.I stood on one that was 100 feet sq.how it appeared there is beyond me and according to the old timers there has never been a road or trail cut through that could provide that sort of access.I have also found cement mounds, not finished like the pad but as though some one had simply emptied out a cement mixer. No marking on the cement pad and no signs to indicate who put them there.
I thought chopper pad for thr D.N.R.but a quik trip to the local resource officer and to his knowledge they have no such structure in the area.I have my own reasons for wanting to investigate but Alans goals are to document the untouched natural wild life and the beauty.I know Alan will make a good film, and 'am proud to be a part of it.I have my end all organised and ready to saddle up as soon as Alan gets the go ahead from his financiers.
6 men,12 horses,200 pounds of grub, and an estimated 1000 pounds of gear. All set for the beginning of July/07.
On the home front I 'am glad that the sping break is near over and that my kids will be returning to school, they are getting on each others nerves and that makes for alot of parenting and extra chores for the trouble makers. Then there is my return to school which I'am sure Wifey is looking forward to.All in all we are doing just fine, busy is what we like and there is never a shortage of work around here.
Calves, colts, llamas, baby's everywhere. We still have a few months before the birds start hatching.Built myself a new metal smoke house ,actually it is just a tin shed but less likely to burn down than the old grain bin I was using.
Spring fever!Anyone?
From the peapatch.

So glad to hear that all is well with you and yours. Seems that Friday the 13th is a lucky day for us as we get your newsy post.
Best wishes on the film, but it sounds like you have much more of an investigation on your agenda. Please keep some sort of a diary and share your adventures with us when you return. You always seem to be so close to nature and so observent that we discover through the word pictures that you paint so well.
Oh, and welcome back.

Hi Daddio, thanks for letting us know how you're doing. Now you've got my curiosity piqued about those cement pads out in the middle of nowhere. My imagination is racing with various scenarios to explain them! Best of luck with the film. Good to hear from you, as always; check in again with us before too long, OK?
