We're back in business.
I just finished a little project. Upgraded the lights in our computer room. Installed two commercial grade suspended ceiling flourescent fixtures. Each one has 4 tubes @ 4' each. Did it while my wife was at work. When she came home she said, "Damn, I'm gonna need sunglasses and sunscreen." She also sometimes takes a nap on the couch in that room while watching old movies. Well she said she figured that was over cause the light would keep her awake and wash out th TV. I told her "Duh... turn out the lights."
I sometimes paint in that room and I insist that the light be as close to daylight as possible. Well , I'm there. My wife also said the room reminds her of a sunny day in mid July.

We have a tradition.
We do not prepare a big Christmas dinner simply because my wife and I feel this day should be devoted to time spent opening presents, enjoying the company of our children and grandchildren, not spent in the kitchen. My wife simply prepares a great big pot of stew and a big pan of cornbread. It is delicious. We have no set time to eat. If anyone gets hungry, they grab a bowl of stew and some cornbread.
Christmas Day at our house is very informal but very nice. I like it.

I can't think of a more delisious Christmas dinner tha stew and cornbread. I may come close the day after Christmas with chicken fried steak.

Chicken fried steak eh. One of my favorites. With mashed potatoes and gravy. Enjoy your meal, Poppy.

Heh. Turkey here for both year end holidays. Turkey, dressing, cranberry marmalade, and "knobby noodles"(homemade egg noodles, the knobby bit stuck as a joke after my sisters firsst solo attampt at making them) and lots of good mashed taters to serve the noodles on.
It's only twice a year, and the kid loves the knobbers

As good as that one was for Thanksgiving, I really hate to break tradition for Christmas. I'd rather have the strew. Quote: Christmas Day at our house is very informal but very nice. I like it.
Me too. I'll be there tomorrow donning my formal jogging pants, sweatshirt, and holy (in the toes) tennis shoes.

No turkey. Tradition lives on.
My attire will be jeans, sweatshirt, moccasins and in accordance with a new tradition I am starting, no socks. I may or may not shave.
I also have an extensive collection of hot sauces for the stew. Names are as follows:
Sir Farts a Lot ...a blend of jalapenos, honey and gold tequilla
Liquid Stupid ... jalapeno, garlic, onion, and various spices
Krakatoa ...pure red savina habanero mash
Butt Twister ...orange and red habanero, apple cider, cane sugar

Are you using all of those in your stew?

Today, here where I live, it is Christmas Eve. So...if you haven't bought that special lady that special gift, you might oughta get your butt off that couch and get it done.
My shopping is all done. Presents all wrapped. And I'm sitting here totally relaxed just waiting for Santa. Today is gonna be a good day. Tomorrow is gonna be even better.

I wouldn't put it past him, Nebula. You should have tasted his batch of the Texas Trash snack mix that Mrs. Earl makes. He insisted on putting some in a seperate baking pan to do with what he wished. Judging by the taste of it after it was done, I think he added all of those sauces to it. I have to say though, it wasnt bad really. It had an interesting hint of citrus to it on top of the heat of the peppers.
As for Christmas, I'm still dragging my butt. I've got something else to do to something (can't say what, the recievers of the gift are probably reading this right now ), have something to mix up and wrap, and then got to load up the car and pay the sis-in-law a quick visit. Hopefully I'll catch my nephew there since he's on leave from Iraq.
It's now 22 degrees out now, so I'm taking my sweet time.

Ah, yes, Chicken fried steak. Put it on a plate with gravy, hash browns, and 2 scrambled eggs, & you have my favorite breakfast.
I'd really love to try your stew, it sounds wonderful!

It was!!! And I discovered something I did not know. We had the family all together here for Christmas. I have a new step grandson-in-law and he likes hot sauces. Hot damn. He put some of my special hot sauce in his stew and loved it. I gave him some of my special hot & spicy Texas Trash party mix. He said that it was the best he had ever eaten. I think he may fit right in.

I believe we do. If I am not mistaken most of the recipes are posted in "Toad in the Hole" threads in fun stuff, page 2. There are some good ones. Enjoy.
Edited 'cause I had to double check "Toad......" to make certain the above is correct. It is.

Naw, that is my New Year's party hat. I'm starting early. But it does double service as an ice pack.
Oh yeah, HAPPY NEW YEAR

Around here there they sell a premium Swiss chocolate by the brand name of Lindt. My son-in-law gave me a bar of this in a dark chocolate with chili peppers. I couldn't imagine how it would tast, but it is delicious, a rare blend of exceptional flavors.
I think you would like it.Bubba.

I got to thinking that I'm gonna put a ringer in my cell phone that plays the United States National Anthem. Then when I'm in a resturant and my phone rings everyone will have to stop eating and stand up.

as long as it isnt the star spangled banner. you will have the pc police toss you to the ground, then the aclu will sue you for offending the resident mice with the god word.
i think i will make a ring tone just for telemarketers.
they call and get this ring tone (you can set different ring tones for different contacts):
the number you have dialed is no longer in service. please check the number and dial again.
as recorded from the phone company lol. then maybe they wont hassle me as much.

Reflecting upon the New Year that is about to hit us right between the eyes, I'm thinking that resolutions suck. How on earth can I possibly keep any of those morally correct, behaviorally proper, and healthfully appropriate resolutions as long as there are a$$holes out there, good hot spicy mexican food and Lone Star beer. Not to mention Wal Mart's abundance of opportunities for comedy relief. Nah, the temptations are too great. But I will Make one resolution I feel I can keep. I will make a greater effort to polish my sarcastic attitude toward those who need to be reminded that stupidity is the major problem in the world.
Now if y'all will excuse me, I've gotta practice writing 2008.

Bubba, my solution for New Year Resolutions was to find one that I make and break at the same time.
I resolve to not make New Year Resolutions.

Hey Poppy, that is a fine resolution. I will join you.
Happy New Year to you and yours.
Oh yeah, do you still practice the old Texas tradition of eating black eyed peas and hog jowls on Jan 1st. there in Massachusetts? It is supposed to insure good luck for the coming year. We do here. I believe it works. At least for me.

Brrrr, it is cold here in East Texas. 22degrees F. @ 5:30am. But it could be worse. At least I'm not homeless and living under a bridge somewhere in Minnesota. Or in a big cardboard box in New York City.
Got up early and built a fire in the fireplace, got me a hot cup of coffee and determined that life was pretty good.
Just curious gang, what's the weather like where y'all are?

When I walked to the bus stop, a half mile, at 5 this morning, it was 1 degree. Now at a little past 11 AM it is 5 degrees. Tomorrow is suspose to be abort 5 degrees warmer but the weekend is suspose to bring a warmup to the 50's or 60's by Monday.

Dang Poppy, you are a tough one. Walking a mile in 1 degree weather. You have my admiration. Did any of your body parts freeze? Do you do that every day?
