Coincidences Story
Is there such a thing as just a coincidence when multiple events happen to the same people, or the same event happens to multiple people? Dam that sounded confusing. You know what I mean. What do you make of it all, is it all down to chance, or fate?

The stories of identical twins' nearly identical lives are often astonishing, but perhaps none more so than those of identical twins born in Ohio. The twin boys were separated at birth, being adopted by different families. Unknown to each other, both families named the boys James. And here the coincidences just begin. Both James grew up not even knowing of the other, yet both sought law-enforcement training, both had abilities in mechanical drawing and carpentry, and each had married women named Linda. They both had sons whom one named James Alan and the other named James Allan. The twin brothers also divorced their wives and married other women - both named Betty. And they both owned dogs which they named Toy. Forty years after their childhood separation, the two men were reunited to share their amazingly similar lives. (Reader's Digest, January 1980)
Of course there is! It's over and over, all the time.
 Or is it just me?
Nah!

An event, if the probability is non-zero, could happen, however unlikely that is. Multiple coincidences, assuming they are independent, can be calculated by just multiplying the individual probability of each event together. If the events are dependent then we use Bayes Theorem. The chance could be small but it not very very small. It is of course higher than say, the probability of I suddenly fall through the floor because of quantum tunneling effect (can use some quantum mechanics to calculate that, and it is very very very small chance ). Of course since the probability is still nonzero, maybe it will indeed happen!
(they say if you keep pushing the wall maybe you can pass through it provided you live as long as the universe! )
Some nice website:

Nice read: http://plus.maths.org/issue31/features/stickland/index.html
Quote:"Before you were born, the probability of you being born was almost 0. After you were born, the probability was 1 that is, a certainty."
How unfortunate coincidence ended up with a legal case:

Anyone read this book?

Well... one is philosophical and one is strictly mathematical. I am offering a choice to which you want to believe in Nah... maybe it's predetermined and you dun have a choice
If you want to be skeptical and only looks at available evidence then go for the mathematical explanation; if you can be more open-minded there is no harm in considering "beyond coincidence". The truth is we simply do not know...

I wonder, is the fact that philosophy and mathematics can't adequately explain this a coincidence also ?

Hi all this is my first post, so please bear with me
I came accross this site a while back and do find it interesting so when i was searching coincidences and came accross it again i thought i'd give it a try.
First of i'm sorry if i dont make myself clear, but here goes
My mum and her friend married identical twins in 1976 then in on feb 19th 1977 first twins wife gave birth to a little boy, exactley 1 week later on 26th feb 1977 second twins wife gave birth to a girl, then fast forward 30 years and second twins daughter is now married and her friend is married to her partners brother, then on 19th feb 2008 first brothers wife gives birth to a little boy, exactley 1 week later on 26th feb 2008 second brothers wife gives birth to a little girl ( on her 31st birthday). Also the mother (second twins wife) of the girl to have baby on 31st birthday, also had a baby on her own birthday, then her neice had a baby on her birthday, one daughter had a baby on twins dads birthday, another daughter had a baby on twins mums birthday?
I could go on but wont lol,,, each of this ladies daughters (she has 5 ) have had 13 children between them and all have been born a family members birthday.
sorry the post is so long i just find this quiet fascinating

I find it interesting when 2 or more people living in different areas of the world come up with the same idea - it could be for a book, movie or invention. Off the top of my head I can only think of the invention of the telephone, but I've heard many more over the years.
It makes me wonder if many people are inspired by whatever(angels, universal consciousnes??) - and it actually takes hold in a couple of these people.

hello me back again
It just goes on and on, and this one is also about twins
My sister in law celebrated her birthday monday, aniversary tuesday and gave birth to twins on wednesday, all of this week.
only other thing is i always seem to know when someone is pregnant even before them ?
And at the point of them giving birth if i'm asleep i wake up and tell my partner that the babys been born, but no matter where i am i just know. My partner has now gotten used to it.
Theres nothing else i know except a few times mid pregnancy with my sisters and some friends i have actually given an exact date of when the baby will be born and i've never been wrong yet? ?
I really have no idea why, and it happens with nothing else only pregnancy and birth.

hello, me again
I told a work friend last month she would find she was pregnant if she done a test, she did and was, even though she had not been trying.
I then told her a few days later it was twins. A week later she went for a scan and it was twins. I also told her she was due in february and was right.
On the day she told me of the twins, i told her my sister emma was pregnant, who had been trying for years and guess what? Emma revealed 2 days later she is pregnant.
I dont know how i know most of this. I really wish i did.

I have thought about fate before, it is indeed a strange thing. I dislike the idea that we have no control and that all our decisions have been made for us already and all we have to do is follow them through. But sometimes things happen which just leave your mind spinning and leave you with thoughs of, 'Could our lives have been predetermined?' or 'Is there some higher force which intervenes?'
I personally don't know what to think! But I will leave you with a short story that made me and my best friend wonder...
Back when I used to smoke cannabis we went to a party, stayed five minutes and left deciding to go 'pick up' instead as the party was pretty lame. We rang our dealer and headed off. About ten minutes up the road someone pulled out on us (I was driving) from a pub car park, I slammed on the breaks and tried to swerve but it was too late and we went flying into them. Once the cars came to rest, I jumped out and checked the other driver was ok but was just met with 'F*** off etc' and he shortly went back into the pub. It soon dawned on me and my friend that he was still alive, this may not seem strange to you guys but it left us reeling. My friend never wears his seatbelt, never. Not once can I remember him being in my car and wearing the seatbelt, as he is over 14 law states its not my responsibility. I nag him from time to time but he still insists its uncomfortable and refuses. For some strange reason that night he decided to wear his seatbelt, had he not he would have definitely have been spread all over the road due to the speed of the impact. Needless to say it put us off smoking and he now wears his seatbelt at all times.
This is just one of my personal experiences that have made me think about this, it is an interesting subject.
