I think it's safe to come out now..........
That's too close for comfort. A town S. of here in Colorado had a tornado 1//2 mile wide hit the town of Windsor, Colorado. Six touched down earlier.... and I think some damage to Laramie, Wyoming.
I know about hurricane's...... can prepare and leave town. These tornado's are a little more dramatic, not as much warning time.
(guess this should be in Environment thread. I didn't have time to think about that.
Should be on the news tonight.

Hi cruiser..
I hope all is OK now..and the cells have moved off.
Tornadoes are not too common where I am..but last year we had an F5 tornado nearby..not normal..and pretty damn eye opening.
Once when younger, I was in South Dakota at a KOA campground..it was hot..around 90 in American degrees. Suddenly out of nowhere..BIG black clouds..and the famous green tinge on the bottom of them..The campground had about 5 minutes to get to shelter..we all went into a cold cellar at the office of the campground...The tornado went right over top..
The whole thing was wild..like a freight train full tilt..the sound..the energy..the vibrations. I truly thought we were doomed..It lasted only a few minutes then it was gone..
We all slowly came back up top...Half the campground was gone..Our trailer still sat untouched. while many..were just gone..
It was right then and there I realized..how strong mother nature is..with her wrath.
Again..I do hope you made through..unscathed.

Thanks Entity,
All's well. The girls were crying, and my youngest was in the hall at school, locked down. Hubby played his guitar to calm us down.... it doesn't help when the local weather man is panicking too. We had a few nearby in North Dakota but not like this. Scary.
You were lucky that day at the campground. I remember seeing the grain elevators and sylo's down in Minnesota after the storms roll through. Nothing to stop them in N.D. but the barbed wire fences, we used to say.
The weather is doing strange things....... at least I've noticed a big change from last year. Seems to be bigger storm systems moving across the country.
Anyway, thanks for asking. I guess the girls in this house panicked just a little bit.
One fatality so far that I've heard.... a semi trailer went over, not sure if it was the driver or someone in a home.
We don't have a storm shelter...... so makes a difference for sure.

Awesome picture and article on Tornado mini, 'you ARE the man'
More unsettled weather today.... can't wait for our pleasant summer days, though we needed the rain.

So very glad you and your loved ones are fine, cruiser. I read your post when you made it, but just did not reply. I am terrified of that type of weather. We have seen a lot of it in the parts of Texas where I have lived. The energy that is generated is wild! I would be bouncing off the walls in a cellar.
That is an really great picture. Mother Nature does indeed produce a lot of awesome events. Unfortunately, I am just too tiny in the scheme of things to have a full appreciation when it is up close and personal.

Hi mini, Dolphin, Entity, ........ I think it's safe to come back out to play now. Today, I was the only one home w/the dogs for the 'fun' of tornado warnings. The storms blew over pretty fast.... so that helps. Guess I didn't realize just how far W. tornado alley was.... even though we don't get too many in these parts. Sailor and Autumn do not like being stuck in the bathroom, these last two days we've had plenty of practice. So keeping watch until 7 pmish this afternoon/eve. I haven't heard any reports of damage... seemed to skirt just past the East side of Cheyenne.
Thanks for keeping watch! I don't feel so alone.

Hey cruiser. I'm glad to see you were untouched by this. I was watching CNN yesterday when they were bringing in live reports of this one. It was the first time I got a really good indication of how they sucked up all the energy around them drawing the hail towards the cloud. What made it so easy to see was the splashes made that were easier to be pulled by the suction. It must be difficult to live in the path of such destruction.

Hi again,
Pretty sure the coast is clear now. Two long days of tracking storm cells.... I have a new appreciation for the folks in tornado alley and what they go through every year.
A bit stressful.
We had nickle size hail here today.... and I wasn't sure if I should crack the windows to pressurize the house if a funnel were to go right over? Guess I thought that should help somehow......... but all in all, have to say that fearing a big fire in CA. nearing the neighborhood for me is the worst. So just told myself, things could always be worse.
Thanks for switching the threads for me. (and following the storms)
When I talk about where I live now, I just say..... I live on windy-cold-high-plains. So alls well, and I hope the rest made it ok around the region. A busy day for the weather folks. Glad things have calmed down.

no need to crack the windows for pressure, debris will shatter them long before thats a problem.

Hi Kira,
Yes, it seems to be a record breaking season for tornado numbers....and deaths.
I'd feel better if I had a storm cellar.
