Could an Acid Trip Cure Your OCD?

Researchers are again using mind-bending drugs as a means of treating mental disorders.

I have heard encouraging things for smoking.

If it were up to me, I'd drop a couple tabs and take my own chances over leaving it up to some hypnotist.

That's just me Cool

Some drugs are just plain bad news. Cocaine and heroin for example are ridiculously addictive and quite toxic. Others are not. Psilocybin mushrooms for example are not at all toxic. In fact in all the history of their use not one fatality has ever been recorded. And they certainly can have beneficial effects. What's interesting is the much hushed-up fact that one of the very best was to cure someone of their addiction to Cocaine or Heroin is to give them a short series of Iboga or Ayahuasca "trips". This is verifiable, medically recorded fact. Why on earth it's not used like this, I don't know. I can make guesses but them my conspiracy-theory-happy mind goes into overdrive. Again. :-)

There is a name for the class of substances that includes natural hallucinogenic plants and herbs. It is "entheogen". This is becasue a huge amount of people that explore the use of these substances come away feeling closer to the divine. They feel they have had their mind expanded and their souls touched. The shamanic traditions all over the world tell us that these particular plants are somehow sacred. Ingesting them allows one to engage with the spirit that is associated with that plant. Most of these spirits are said to be benign or even loving. Some are supposed to be bad news indeed (I think this might include Datura for example). But the idea was that one could commune with this spirit and it would help you to heal yourself or even someone else. Or help you to understand your psychological or emotional trauma better (or whatever). It is MOST interesting that this article seems to be suggesting that western medical scientists are discovering this again.

Interesting.

Of course folks suffering from mental or physical pain should not now rush out and find a dealer or whatever and try to self-medicate! These things work in a very controlled and supportive environment. Traditionally a shaman was someone that was well versed and trained in the process of guiding someone through the often very confusing and frightening world of the psycho-scape (to coin a word). These are NOT party drugs and should NOT be taken lightly.

Of course they should not be toyed with at all where they are illegal.

This is definitely an area of research and medication very worthy of deeper consideration, and less demonization.

The biggest problem I see is that it will be regulated and mandated by the multi-billion dollar pharmaceutical industry, tied into the military industrial complex. Once big business copyrights these drugs (even marijuana) I think it will mark a death knell.

I'm in partial agreement, though I wouldn't see anything wrong with a sort of "Scientific Shaman" or "Psychedelic Psychologist" who was there to help guide the process of healing. Especially involving disorders such as schizophrenia or acute anxiety.

Unfortunately we're not living in a time of responsible Philosophers or great upstanding morals and ethics, but the seedy underbelly of greed, politics, and religious control. Once the corporations get their fingers in all of this, it will all but ruin it for everybody, IMO.

Very interesting and true !!!

I know a lot of interpretations and views of events in the Bible have been written, but in the light of your above post I remember reading in a book that the "burning bush" was actually a mistranslation and should actually be "the bush that burns", and in the Old Testament days there was apparently an entheogen known as "the bush that burns" because on ingestion it had a burning effect on your mouth similar to chili.

So maybe Moses had an entheogenic experience Puzzled Puzzled Puzzled
