I've always heard that people die in threes. It sounds like a silly superstition but strangely enough it does seem to me to happen that way alot. And now with George Carlin dying today it seems like another death trinity is in the making.
Tim Russert
George Carlin
...?

Ya, it does come in 3's usually. Read about George this morning. Didn't know he had all that heart trouble.
RIP George, you made alot of people think as well as laugh.
Now...for #3...anyone want to make a wish? I know of a few polititians that with their passing would make this world a better place. Oh, but that would be a good thing, so it won't happen. Plus dieing would be too easy a way out.
I wonder if either George or Tim were close to their birthdays? I read where alot of people pass near the time of birthdays...

I've heard that too. Bit of a morbid irony that is...

This one always sets me to wondering if and to what degree the old "one, two, three, many" might influence things as an inherent perceptive boundary point. In other words, are we simply preprogrammed to see a cutoff point for groups of three in any large number? Those who get "into" numerical significance seem to end up always quite taken with the prevalence of 3's and their multiples (6, 9, 12, etc).

I think it would be only natural. 3 is an extremely symbolic number and widely used for thousands of years. It's in some ways the perfect number.
Edit:Funny that Russert and Carlin were both born in May and died in June.

Oh, thanks for that IR, interesting eh?
I agree that 6, 9, 12 and more are what happens, but the 3 seem to come closer together then the rest.
My dad was born in May, but died in July. My brother on the other hand killed his self on Aug 6th, his birthday was Aug 16. I think there's definately something to it, just don't know what or why it'd be that way.

Politician Jesse Helms dies
And I believe that's the third. I haven't heard of anyone in-between.
-Tim Russert(d. June 13)
-George Carlin(d. June 22)
-Jesse Helms(d. July 4)
And just to toss it out there:Carlin 9 days after Russert. Helms 12 days after Carlin.

Hi IRex,
3's were brought to my attention too....... starting w/the 3:33 clock episode I experienced....(lasting aprox. 6 wks) seemed beyond any chance.... it was to mean something. Shortly after, 6 wks later, my father suddenly died......... and we took notice in a pairing of three (deaths).
I saw the (as best I can describe) the grim reaper 3 x..... over about a 6 wk period.
It's a curious thing. Those pearly gates only open the door to three at a time?

Well now, isn't that interesting. I forgot about this when I heard about Helms. And the numbers!
You got that one right on the head. Wow!
Very interesting, gonna have to remember this for the next round. Thanks IR.

I've had a couple sets of 3 deaths.
1. My mom and step-dad were killed in a motorcycle accident. The same day my wife's grandmother had a stroke and died a few days later.
2. My wife's dad, my wife's aunt, and a friend of ours died within a month.
3. Three of my friends from highschool died in accidents or committed suicide within a 3 week span.
4. My grandfather, his dog, and my dog all died within a couple months.
I had never heard of the rule of 3's until my mom/step-dad/wife's grandmother died and then everyone was talking about it.

My gosh, so sorry for everyone's losses in this thread.
I remember we lost an Uncle on hubby's side, and William Conrad (actor), I think same week my father died..........and John Candy(comedian) a few weeks later........
Dad had gone to the VA to get checked out for his chest pains a few wks prior........ they told him it's probably gallbladder and to come back if it continues........ massive heart attack a few wks later.
Don't be ashamed to 'insist on finding the cause' if something doesn't seem to be as it should w/your health.

That's very similar to the pattern of deaths in my family. My uncle just passed recently and going by the past I was a little worried that two more were coming. But fortunately we dodged the 3 ball this time around.

That's pretty neat, Dagobert. I met someone shortly after my father died too..... someone that seemed to help me get past being so sad....... and made me realize I can continue to laugh and enjoy life. I wondered if he (my father) had anything to do w/that also. Either way....... the timing for meeting this person was just what I needed.
Kinda nice to think so, anyway.

As did ex-baseball great Bobby Mercer. I'd say Snow's is the only one that was really expected. At this rate it sounds like one more should be coming soon...

I have noticed that death seems to come in three's. As soon as I read somebody has died, I tell my wife, I wonder who's going to be next, and sure enough, within a few days two more people die.

I know this post is old but it caught my attention. Don't know why its in main news though
It is strange it does seem to happen in threes (both my pop's and a friend died in the same year)
but is that because I am looking for things with a pattern of three.
For example if I said to myself that everything about me involves the number 5. I have 5 letters in my name, my birthday has 5 in it, I have 5 fingers on each hand. Is it the case that I'm all about 5 or is it that I'm only looking for things about me that are 5. For example I don't think about the fact that I only have two eyes but I do think about my eyes as a sense because I have 5 senses.

No bloody ways!!
Okay the reason for my outburst is because when I first saw this thread I was thinking I wonder what the number is - due to the title, I kept on saying 5 in my head as this number has been popping out at me since I went travelling earlier this year, so I would say from around, April/May.
I am seeing 5 EVERYWHERE!!!! heehee
So by you mentioning it just makes the 'everywhere' even more so....heehee
I have no clue about what it could mean- I keep wondering if I might find the answer to it - as it really seems, has this feeling around it that just feels 'big' in a sense. Like a penny dropping moment, a large part of the puzzle making sense or something...I look forward to the mystery and possible places where it, the number 5 might read its head once again!
