Amalgam dental fillings – which contain the highly toxic metal mercury – pose a health risk, the world's top medical regulatory agency has conceded.
After years of insisting the fillings are safe, the US government's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a health warning about them. It represents a landmark victory for campaigners, who say the fillings are responsible for a range of ailments, including heart conditions and Alzheimer's disease.
Earlier this month, in an unprecedented U-turn, the FDA dropped much of its reassuring language on the fillings from its website, substituting: "Dental amalgams contain mercury, which may have neurotoxic effects on the nervous systems of developing children and foetuses." It adds that when amalgam fillings are "placed in teeth or removed they release mercury vapour", and that the same thing happens when chewing.

Just proves the truism that nothing is as stupid as a bureaucracy. All these years to get them to bend just that far...
I mean, this ain't rocket science... mercury is bad in fish, but ok permanently in your mouth?

Gotta say, I am getting my final three out tomorrow and I cannot tell how much I do not enjoy it on the replacement level and that cost, but yep its time. Probably have no business here but it is what I am having done tomorrow and all along.
My dentist has said all the same things. Christ, makes ya wonder if that's whats wrong with me. heh

I only have two fillings. Alas both of them are these miserable mercury amalgam things. I vaccinate between wanting them replaced and not. My thinking is this: sitting in my mouth they will very slowly poison me with small amounts of toxin for the rest of my life. That's bad. Having them out will release a huge quantity of toxin into my system in one shot and then no more. But which is worse? I don't know. Thoughts?

Ohh boy...I have 3 of those in my mouth, from when I was little, that's alot of years of mercury be'in released. Zingdad the first thing that popped into my head reading your post was have the whole tooth extracted so as not to disturb the filling. I think I will just leave mine......it's been to long now, guess I will just live with it. I am imagining the dentist in full chem gear to remove fillings so as not to be exposed to what is in our mouths??

As a child of the 50's pretty much all of my bicuspids and molars had amalgam fillings. When I had them all out a few years back every one of them that had a filling, when pulled released a pocket of the vilest, most horrible tasting crap you can imagine. I'd have been willing to swig from a cesspool just to clear out the taste of that crud, it was that bad.
I'd really recommend having those three out mapreference... you'll be amazed how much it will improve your overall health. It may seem to be harmless to have them in place, but that pocket of perpetual toxins is there, you can count on it.

yes , i bet there is !
not forgetting how murcury affects our normal magnetic ( chi ) electrical energy flow .
local quacks in this department do everything they can to deem nature elegal and also go out of their way to avoid how our energy maridian lines operate .
i mean , go to the dentists or drs , and they will find a condition for it .
dentist ? dentist ? my tooth hurts , --------------why ?
maybe son , you need a new filling .
no chance ! -----------------bob from down the road just gave me one , straight in the chops , couldnt that explain it ?
no son , you need a murcury shot .
dr dr , i was runing down the raod and i got this cronic pain in my side , and i had to sit down for a rest . what is it
looks to me son youve got kidney inherited desfunction.
oh i see dr , so scoffing down 2 giant sized full cours meals and 3 bowls of ice cream just 3 mins before i took off had nothing to do with it then ?

Recently had a dentist go to replace a filling that fell out..... he commenced to mix the amalgam material on my chest, so was right under my nose......... and was remarking that it was going to take 3x the amount to replace it. You can imagine what was going through my mind............ I've since left his practice, had a root canal, and a pretty new gold crown installed. You'd think these 'Dr's' know better by now............ and they tried to reassure me that all was fine. It doesn't sound like all is fine to me!
Guess I still have a few that need replacing. What a nightmare. Thanks for the info.
Sorta makes you wonder how long the FDA waited to make the announcement......... I also find it interesting that my new dentist office states they are dangerous and do not use that material. Yet, some are still practicing it. Will be interesting to see if they stop.

I have to have my last remaining filling done on the 24th..
The last time I asked for a 'white' filling instead of the amalgam..I was told that the amalgam lasted twice as long as the softer..white ones..and were more expensive..
After reading this article in last weeks Daily Mail..there is no way that I am going to have a mercury based one..
