Many apologies for the downtime and errors today...

You're most welcome, the error that was being displayed initially was due to another limit being set that shouldn't have been. That has been increased now to 5 times its original value, which is ample ! So no silly error messages now either

Thanks to the hosting companys help, we've tracked down the cause of the recent problems. Yahoo! no I mean it's Yahoo going crazy spidering the site.

More apologies

This time the server stuck (probably down to site being spidered by yahoo again) and the reboot ticket system at the hosting company was also faulty, so it's taken a long time to get back. Will still be pursuing the matter, but we're good to go at the moment.

Ya, saw that this morning. It's not for you to apologise it's not your doing. :)

Seems these guys think they can do whatever they want whenever they want as long as you pay. :darkevil: WTF is that?

Maybe you should give an e mail addy to us all so when it does that we can flood their e mail with complaints about their shody business ethics. :? Oui!? :D

perhaps ask them:
was it really server maintenence or did you have a hardware failure and had to restore from backups?
i can do maintence in the background on my server without downtime. this may result in some lost data (in your case posts) though. it should not take 5 hours (or whatever), and customers should be notified in advance.

if it were me running the server i would:
schedule maintence in advance
be running raid 1 or 5 arrays (to guard against hard drive failures)
have UPS for proper server shutdown or have backup power.
have the ability to auto-email clients in the event of power failure or other immanent shutdown status due to whatever reason (protection from natural disaster for example).
internet connectivity should be a stable line such as a t-3 or better.internet loss is unavoidable at times, and as such i would have email address of clients on a laptop or at my home so i can email clients something like :

sorry about this ,but due <insert conditons here> that are beyond my control, my connection to the internet has been lost, due to <conditions here>. please be patient while i sort this out with my internet/power provider.

The problem in the end turned out to be lack of storage, when I asked about "maintenance" that's what they were saying was needed, rather than thats what had been done. After a long haul yesterday it turned out that the backups had filled main storage, as the auto delete hadn't been activated. Cut a long story short, all problems including that with yahoo were down to a lack of any space on the server.

Space has been reclaimed now, and all should be well. should also see a speed improvement, I know I am here.

Yet again more problems :internetexploder: still working with the company to track down the cause. These other things mentioned above needed sorting, but need to look further :investigate:

Apologies again folks..

:-?

I'll try watch all those things big sis, but being good? now come on how possible is that ? Seriously though, thanks for the thoughts, and we need to discuss something soon a la Dolphin ? :)

Site was down a long time today, cut a long story short, because we're averaging around 4-500 visitors the server needed a major speed increase. That was installed today, but didn't go smoothly as you probably gathered. It has now though and I'm happy with the result :D

You know you can grab me when I am on and you are here. I hate to bother you because you have so much to do in such a short time. Just yell when you have time.
