Tropical storm Edouard was forecast to reach near-hurricane strength as it headed towards the gulf coast of Texas, the National Hurricane Center said Tuesday.
Oil companies with exploration and refining facilities in the region had batten down and evacuated many of their offshore personnel ahead of the storm, which was expected to make landfall around midday Tuesday.
At 0600 GMT Tuesday Edouard's center was located some 145 kilometers (90 miles) southeast of Port Arthur, Texas, and about 190 kilometers (120 miles) east of Galveston, Texas, the Miami-based center reported.
"Edouard is forecast to strengthen, and it is expected to be near hurricane strength by the time it reaches the coastline later today," the Miami-based Hurricane Center said

Thanks Thelmadonna!
I heard a snippit on the news about this hurricane yesterday, but had forgotten to see how it was doing. Thank goodness the hurricanes are little so far this year.

Dolphin,I believe it just made landfall near Galveston. Still a tropical storm. The following link is a radar out of San Antonio. Shows weather conditions for all of Texas.

A pretty good radar system with quite a bit of flexibility for the viewer.

Thank you Newbs, currently it is raining, wind is blowing about 5 to 30 mph. But no biggie. All is good here in East Texas.
Bubba leans back in his chair, listening to the wind chimes outside. Sounds really nice. Bubba thinks he aint afraid of no piddly little tropical storm.

Do you know any songs that can be sung to the accompaniment of wind chimes?

Thanks for that link, Bubba. Looks like one of those good bookmark items.
We had hot weather with a touch of humidity today. That was about it. We didn't even have our usual winds.
Thanks for the kind thoughts, newbs.

No... but "whistling a happy tune " is always a good stand by in such events....and would be great with chimes...
Hope the storm blows over with minimum effect...

The storm is over and with minimal effect. A bit of flooding along the Texas coastal areas, some power outages but all in all not bad. Our East Texas area came out A-OK. Effects here were mostly benefecial with some much needed rain.
But thinking about it, I am somewhat concerned due to the fact that we have already had two back to back that came in along the Texas coast. Is a pattern developing? And Why? Are the steering currents and atmospheric conditions in the Gulf of Mexico causing this? Any thoughts anyone?

I had mentioned that to Tiger the other day. Another thing I considered is that this last hurricane moved a bit to the east. I wonder if the next one will be a bit further to the east, and so on. Seems it also dropped just enough in intensity to not do as much damage.
In my crazy mind, I always thought Hurricane Rita hit in the wrong place, and with the wrong force. The thought running around in there has always been that they are working on fine tuning the control of HAARP. If I am right, by some long shot, I am a bit worried about what other weather situations they will start practicing on next.
I started reading about Tesla and HAARP about 12 years ago. I decided then that HAARP in the hands of our government was not a good thing. See what conspiracy thoughts do to me?

Don't know about you Bubba, but the rain came in quite handy yesterday, my grass has been awful thirsty of late. Such a lovely little storm. Had a little thunderboomer (some people call em storm cells, I call em thunderboomers) roll through my area just Sunday, I was out for a walk in the 95+ degree heat and pretty suddenly the wind picked up, the temperature fell about 10 degrees, and the rain came down. I got drenched and just a skosh frightened by the lightning, but other than that I was fine. Still need rain, about 5 inches to the low end so far this year.

We have not seen any rain up here, but we did seem to have a few clouds that made it "seem" cooler today.

Nomad: Quote:Had a little thunderboomer (some people call em storm cells, I call em thunderboomers)
Shades of Karl Childers. Did you say that deliberately just to get a laugh out of me. If so, it worked.
We had a bit of rain here but really not as much as the local weatherpersons predicted. Could use more. My water bill last month is a good indicator of our lack of rain. But I can't stand to see my grass, flowers and ornamental plants wither away. 'Sides I sometimes think I can hear them saying, "I thirsty."

By the looks of that radar it seems to have disappeared. Good thing your not on the coast Dolphin, but then you have to worry about the tornados in tornado alley. I'm wondering if there IS a safe place on this planet?
