Thanks for the photograph Lonecat.
On the edge of the Corona, you can see several Solar Flares ejecting from Sol.

Yes, Nigelelan. Quite. That is why I thought the picture should be posted. As the great Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders were wont to say: "I know THAT!

Wow ... fabulous ...Thanks Lonecat .. you always get us such great stuff !...
Anyone else think it is more than a little coincidental ( is there such a thing... ) that the moon is exactly the same shape and size in the sky to the Sun.. that the ratio of size with distance equals optical size in the horizon as almost the same?
I can see why people believe(d) the Sun - God , Moon -Goddess are partners , and are ying/yang of each other.!

I suppose, that, if we are to look at things in a strictly scientific manner, it is not so strange that the Moon should be "just the right size" to block out the Sun during a total eclipse: (conic sections and shadow projection and all that). Nevertheless I belive that we have to think of other factors, too. It is not only the Moon's being at the right distance from Earth in allignment with our dear Earth and the glorious rays of Ra-Helios, (our Sun) which is importantnt but also we, too, who have to be in the right spot at the right time. Millions of people were not able to view this majestic spectacle, myself included. However, Newbs, I love your own comment or observation about the magnificence of such an event. I agree with you about the beauty and the wonder of it all. Is it not, perhaps, we humans who put the magic and the poetry into it by perceiving things in a human way. Your response quite moved me. I feel the same way.

Im glad you feel that way Lonecat .. . its pretty awesome all the same that they are each roughly the same size in the sky to each other ..... and that even though they are millions of miles apart , SHE is smaller but no less important in the sky to HE !
The Universe is certainly a moving ( no pun intended ! ) experience for anyone that cares to spend a moment looking !
look forward to your posts ... as usual !
