The experiments are due to last a fortnight...
I wonder how far they will go?
There has been death threats to some scientists after the court case ruled they could go ahead
on trying to recreate dark matter.... anyone know of a non military use for dark matter.

This is a video with an interview about the Hadron Collider here. It features Michio Kaku. It is pro collider, but then thats to be expected, as Pof Brian Cox is his understudy.
I have been watching these guys for years, so I kinda reckon they would know what they are doing.

Yep... agreed Minifang.... Death threats most certainly dont solve anything , and they confuse and distract the issue.
Progress too , is required , I agree... but I still think its not the right way to do it.
I live virtually on top of a chemical plant that produces enough explosive and other dangerous substances to transfer me to anther county....and I'm only three mile from a nuclear powered electricity station...20 or so miles from a mine that searches for and attempts to measure naturally occuring dark matter... and each time I wonder if that is a good idea I ask myself what is the worst case scenario?I am not as concerned with risk of personal harm .... I would move home if I was.... I am concerned about worst case scenario .I realise there is so much to be understood from our physcial, metaphysical and non physical world.... but switching on now is running before we can walk in my opinion.
Just my two cents as usual!

the scientists working on trinity (to test a atom bomb during WWII) expressed a mathematical chance of igniting the earths atmosphere into a nitrogen/carbon reaction. they didnt stop.
so whats to think simple death threats will stop them? next time they may simply not tell us, and do it even with a greater possibility of planetary destruction.in the current scenario the possibility is infinitesimal. but still possibly statistically. but so is the entire earths atmosphere suddenly relocating to one hemisphere (chance is something like once in a million trillion years).. it is a small chance, but it is there.

14% of people know that.
never attribute to conspiracy that which can amply be attributed to the actions of a bunch of greedy stupid self serving men in power

I must admit to having grave misgivings about this project..
OK..it could be called progress...but it is the progression into what that deeply concerns me..I just pray that these reputable scientists..as thelma pointed out..do know what they are doing...

Sorry momma, but they do NOT know what they are doing. If they did they wouldn't need to conduct experiments, would they?
I'm far from being anti-science, but when science is under govt control it ceases being science and becomes exactly as mindless and irresponsible as anything else that is govt operated... and thereby becomes incredibly dangerous.
There's rampant illogic in the LHC program. The cash dumped down that rathole coulkd have placed a permanent base on the moon. But rather than prioritise funding sensibly, we conduct potentially world snuffing "try it and see" operations on the one planet we have to live on instead of taking a bit of time to move elsewhere.

I just want to know WHEN the actual test will take place. They are turning it on on Sept. 10th, but the test will take two weeks?? I don't get it. Also, I read somewhere that the actual test won't be until October??? I wonder if this coincides with the Oct 14th encounter.
Anyway, When will the atoms actually collide and melt this planet

I can't wait to see what happens... May be nothing but a few interesting discoveries for the physics minded, but I can't help but think it's going to be a lot bigger than that...
Seems to me with all the prophecies and signs of the times these days, the collider may well play a major role in our futures. For better or worse?

Hey All...was reading this interesting article earlier...Hadron Collider
it says that it will take months for the machine to reach full power...so I suspect that it will be some time before we realize and experience any effects from this...
I still wonder at the arrogance of Gov and Scientists thinking they have any idea what the effects of these "small" black holes are going to have...kinda freaky that those who shun and poopoo anything metaphysical or extra-dimensional are the ones trying to OPEN other dimensions...

And some claim that the Iranians and North Koreans are dangerous maniacs, they
are no-where near as dangerous as this CERN , well IMHO anyway
