Some users may be aware that I have had problems opening Tinyurl for the last week. The places I usually use for working on Internet suddenly stopped providing Tinyurl and this has been a great nuisance to me. However, I know of two places where I can use Tinyurl, one cheap and the other expensive. I went to the cheap ( ) and wrote a letter to Tinyurl (I copied their mailing address from the "Contact Us" department. I was much surprised and pleased to receive a prompt, informative and polite answer from them this morning (it arrived in my Spam tray.)

Here is what the gentleman, Mr. Gilby, wrote:

"It has been brought to our attention that the ISP Telefonica España is
blocking our site on their network. We're trying to see what we can do
to get it unblocked.

I just thought somebody might be interested to know this. I shall now contact Telefónica de España and inquire into the reason for Tinyurl's being blocked in Spain.

That is interesting. Perhaps Telefonica Espana no habla poco link.

for now, you can try using a anonymous proxy such as shadowsurf to get to tinyurl.

Thanks for the tip, Minifang. What a fiendish scheme, I thought, heh,heh. It works like a charm but took me only to the Tinyurl site which still remains blocked by Telefónica. The post office seems to have its own good reason for blocking Tinyurl. I shall inquire. They will probably give "La crisis" as their excuse

Just as an experiment, here is the Tinyurl link which is the reduction to 25 characters of an original link which was about 665 ( ) characters if I remember correctly. I wanted to post this on the Astronomy forum...but to no avail, I'm afraid. So YOU try opening this, (as you are outside Spain) and let me know if you can download the article ( and also tell me what it is about, as I have forgotten by now). I filed the link only as an example of an exceptionally long link and forgot to add the subject

If you can download it, that means that I can still post, tinyurls via Shadowsurf even though I cannot open them myself from this end. Thanks a lot for your help. I wonder if Tinyurl is blocked in China

Iwon't answer by using the quiote system again as there is not enough room in this klunky Internet oulet which does NOT repeat NOT use Telefónicaas a go-between for internet. This room only about fiftenn feet wide so the text wouldnot fir it. Now that you have kindly made that article clickable and thus legible, all I would have to do now is to run it through Shadowsurf and Tinyurl to recodify it and then post it on a forum and hope that others will be able to read it.

I am not really happy with this antediluvian computer, either as the space-bar is broken and I have to keep going back over the text to separate all the words from each other they as they have the tendency to come out all shobed together, a bit like in latin inscriptions. Phew! I am delighted to announce that Tinyurl is again available in Spain. It came back today after a week's absence. The curious thing is that I Googled up Telefonica Tinyurl and found a very scathing article about Spain in connection with this. Then I did some work on my inbox and afterwards (only minutes later) returned to that article in order to post it but it had been removed, presumably by Google. I'm not going to repeat what the article said. Tinyurl is back so I shall let the matter rest.
