Today is Groundhog day here in the colonies. In honor of the occasion I am wearing my groundhog hat. So:
HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY EVERYONE

I am waiting to see if Phil sees his shadow. If he does we will have 6 more weeks of winter.

Late breaking News: Phil saw his shadow.

No problem Momma. Boy, y'all are having some heavy weather. But I guess it beats no weather at all. Here the sun is shining, temperature 69f and with a slight breeze.

I just got back from the bone doc. he pronounced my ankle well. But I already knew that. Mrs. Bubba needed to hear it though. The doc said I could return to normal activities. Mrs. Bubba told him, "Damn Doc, I wish you hadn't said that. Normal for him is not the same as anyone else. He thinks climbing trees with a chainsaw and cutting off limbs is normal."

I am in a good mood today. After a while I may have a "My ankle is well and I can get rid of this damn boot splint." party.

Glad that you are back to "normal?". Bubba.
That 69 degrees sounds good. Here we have a light snow covering ice from the weekend. This makes walking an adventure.

Poppy, I trust your area is not at all like Kentucky. Those poor people have really had it rough. And look at what the UK is going through.

Global warming....hmmmmm.... makes me wonder.

Here hasn't been bad at all; just inconveniently COLD for this displaced Texan (often single figures).
I remain grateful for the blessings that have been bestowed upon me.

As most of you know I went to the bone doc yesterday and he determined that my fractured ankle was pretty well fixed. I am now walking normally with just a very slight limp. But that will go away with time.

I am a bit saddened though, ‘cause I had almost perfected my Walter Brennan limp. And I had grown quite fond of the Wal Mart electric shopping carts. But I am gonna keep the splint boot ‘cause I figure it’ll come in handy if and when I decide to have some fun at Wally World. Or if Wal Mart ever has a special sale on “Cripple History Monthâ€

Oh You naughty Cat you! :spank:

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I would still use the Buggy though Bubba. The first time you go back in walking, some crazy female will accidently drive into your sore ankle. I see it coming

Laughing just now, just in case it really does happen. :D

It's almost happened before, Thelma. So maybe statistically, the chances of it happening again have gone down.

MrsEarl told me a story about how some woman on one of those carts almost ran over her in Walmart. They went on about their shopping and saw the woman again in a different part of the store. The exchange of words went something like this...

MrsEarl to Bubba: Lord, there's that old woman again that almost ran over me.

Eavesdropping child: That's my grandma!

MrsEarl to eavesdropping child: Well she still almost ran over me!

Signs are going up in shops everywhere in Oz stating "You will not be served if talking on a mobile phone"

I wonder if they would serve me if I was writing a letter? :?

I got to thinking about the current economical mess and a simple thought occurred to me. As I'm sure everyone is aware, our economy is based on supply and demand. If someone demands it someone else will supply it. And 'it' is defined as cars, refrigerators, TVs, stoves, houses, dog collars, etc. And those things are made by workers who are also the consumers. Hells bells I haven't bought a car, refrigerator, TV, stove, in 8 years. I havent bought a house since 1970 or a dog collar in 10 years.

So what if the consumers have enough cars, refrigerators, TVs, stoves, houses, dog collars, etc, and don't need anymore. If that is the case then no amount of bailout money is gonna help 'cause what are they gonna buy???

I figure the bailout money should be given to the countries who dont have much, so they can buy a bunch of stuff from us, thereby keeping the american consumer employed.

My thoughts on this Bubba are ......... don't spread your post any further than this forum because:

The stuff you got has lasted far longer than it was designed and manufactured to do, so you might find manufacturing standards dropping in response to your post :?

Or maybe just don't look after it so well !

Silly, but just a thought :stupid:

Just got back from Wally World for Mrs. Earl's Wal Mart shopping therapy. I didn't even need one of those electric shopping carts. I was able to walk all over the place. Even though I had to dodge the kids riding bicycles and the fat ladies in the electric carts, it was good exercise.

I noticed that our Wal Mart has two benches against the wall near the check outs. It is where thje husbands sit while waiting for their wives. I noticed one old fellow sitting there looking really PO'd so I asked him if he had been there long. He told me he had been there since the after Christmas sales, but it was better than going home and having to watch Oprah and Dr. Phil. He said the associates were real nice though. They bought him stuff to eat and one of them even asked him if he would like a job as a greeter.

Anyway I figured they need more benches. Perhaps in the ladies wear and garden sections. And name them "Husband Waiting Bench" or "Wait Here While Waiting On The Wife" bench.

Am sitting here in San Antonio's Menger Hotel after a very pleasnt drive up from East Texas. Have already made a visit to The San Fernando Church, the Spanish Governors palace and a brief walk through the Alamo. Also took in the I Max movie about the Alamo, "Price of Freedom".

The San Fernando Church is the church from which Santa Anna flew the red flag of no quarter, no mercy back in 1836.

Wish y'all could be here

Bubba is back and will fill y'all in as soon as he can. Got some stories to tell involving ectoplasm, Phil Collins, an interview with an Alamo Ranger, a giant statue, the Menger Bar Margarita recipe, and free ranging chickens.

We had a marvelous time but y'know vacations can be very tiring, so I may rest a bit today. Then I need to post a "What Am I" picture, post a topic for poetry contest.

Glad to be back on board, gang.

Phil Collins was our guest speaker at the Memorial service for The Descendants of the Alamo Defenders. He gave a very nice speech. He is a big Alamo buff. I was fortunate to visit with him. Seems like a nice fellow.

Do your self a favour Bubba and go listen to one of John Martyns albums...
theres about 30 of them, Collins plays on a couple.
"Grace and Danger" is one of them.

or take a look at a few youtubes of him, his talent was incredible.
fantastic lyrisist. and guitarists. sometimes its a bit hard to understand his voice but when you find out what he is saying the words are so eloquent...

another amazing not heard much of recently deceased artist and also my fave is Michael Hedges... he plays most of the music in a movie called "August Rush"
I recomend that too..

Thanks Crux. I'll check 'em out. Incidentally Collins no longer tours.

Have you listened to his "In The Air Tonight"? A 1991 release. Alledged to have been banned by Clear Channel radio as too sensitive due to the fact that at that time the Gulf War had started.

Yes, and there was a rumour about that particular song being about a murder he was supposed to have witnessed, but it was just a rumour...

Bill Engval does a little skit where he mentions free ranging chickens. I did not know there was such a thing until I actually saw a free ranging chicken ranch on the way back from San Antonio.
Picture several hundred chickens just standing out in a large green pasture. Standing out there like a bunch of cows .Not moving, all looking in the same direction. True! Well, my mind immediately began to ponder that sight. I began to wonder if the guys who look after them are called chicken boys. And if they have chicken roundups, chicken drives and also if the chickens ever stampede. Do they rope the chickens?
And it must be real embarrassing when the chicken boy is asked what he does for a living.

Q. What do you do.
A. I work on a ranch.
Q. What kind of ranch
A. (in a somewhat low voice with a subdued manner) Uhh….a chicken ranch.
Q. Do you brand the chickens?
A. Oh yeah, we use a little chicken branding iron. Our brand is the Rocking Egg. But I don’t like branding time ‘cause of the smell. Have you smelled burning feathers?
Q. Well, are y’all ever bothered with chicken rustlers?
A. Oh yeah. We hung two last month.
Q. That sure sounds like a rough job. What do you do for entertainment?
A. We have a chicken rodeo. With chicken barrel racing. Except instead of barrels we use little syrup buckets. We have little chicken saddles and the chickens are ridden by banty roosters.
