Natural Remedies for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Quote: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common condition that many people struggle with. Statistics show that one in ten Americans display the symptoms of IBS, accounting for more than 2 million prescriptions and 35,000 hospitalizations each year. It is also the second highest cause of work absenteeism after the common cold.
Oregano is ranked highly too .. The herb of choice is Oregano, or P73 double strength caps or liquid. A couple of drops daily will, over the weeks, kill any parasites, giardia, candida etc involved. Don't forget the probiotic as a previous reader mentioned and address any mental/emotional contributing factor.

another interesting comment...
Quote: Bless you, Dr. Mercola, for bringing up the gluten factor! Dr. Alessio Fasano, a researcher and gastroenterologist at the University of Maryland has researched "tight junction dysfunction" (leaky gut) caused by gluten (specifically gliadin, the protein in wheat). Dr. Fasano's article, "Intestinal zonulin: open sesame!" was published in Gut in 2001; PubMed has his excellent article, #16635908. Stacy Astor Shaul's article in The Townsend Letter ("Gluten Intolerance: a paradigm of an epidemic") explains the doubling of the gliadin content in today's hybridized wheats, the move from a Paleo Diet to mostly processed foods, the increase in autoimmune diseases due to wheat, etc. The Antigliadin IgG antibody test will tell you whether you are producing antibodies to gluten/gliadin. Ask your doctor to check for H. pylori, whether you are IgA deficient, and run a lactulose-to-mannitol test to see whether you have intestinal permeability. Order an Immunoglobulin Panel test to see what's really going on. If you do not fall within the normal range, check out toxic metals testing - a weak immune system is often related to some type of environmental injury. Be aware of your poops - chocolate pudding stools? Liquid? Rabbit pellets? Keep a food journal/poop journal to discover hidden triggers. My little boy suffered from constant nausea/vomiting/weight loss for over 2 years. During that time we saw 22 doctors and my sweet son had hundreds of really harmful tests run to try to figure out why. Spare yourself the trouble and trauma by having these specific tests (above) ordered and analyzed.

another interesting possible cure here...
Quote: rritable Bowel Syndrome is simply an advanced form of constipation. Fecal matter collects on the sides of the colon, and the body is unable to expel it. However, the body continues its efforts to expel it. It induces water to try to flush it out, but unsuccessfully. Hence the diarrhea.
I have found a solution that works wonderfully for constipation and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. At http://www.seamineral.com/ they sell a product called Pure Aussie. This is concentrated sea minerals from Australia. They take 100 gallons of ocean water and use sunlight to evaporate it down to 1 gallon. The resulting sea mineral concentrate contains all the ionic sea minerals contained in the ocean, readily assimilated by the body. However, in the evaporation process, 99% of the sodium precipitates out of solution. So you get all the micro-nutrients without the sodium!
When I started taking just one teaspoon a day of Pure Aussie, almost immediately I started having daily bowel movements. As long as I take my Pure Aussie in the evening, the next morning I have a soft, easily passed stool. This product works consistly for everyone I have recommended it to (over 300 people, including my wife and kids). Of course, there are many other health benefits that come with it, but the great news is that I know a number of people who had Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and within as little as a month it was completely gone. Now they are having REGULAR daily bowel movements!

... it appears that there could be a parasitic link to this and many other diseases...
the historic record of Ulcers, that were long considered to be caused by ‘psychosomatic origins’..finally a bacteria was found to be its cause.
l the simple solution to a variety of symptoms, we call diseases, ie cancer, ibs, crohns…may be ‘parasites’.
What Have Ibs And Parasites Got In Common?
... and... as I have recently read about cloves being the world's best superfood... also an anti parasitic....
The medical industry now realizes that parasites may be a contributing factor to diseases such as arthritis and rheumatoid symptoms, Chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, epilepsy, and chronic fatigue syndrome. If you’re having abdominal discomfort or digestive issues such as diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), you may very well be infected with parasites.
Here are just a few of the other symptoms associated with being infected by parasites: Gas, cramps, distention, bloody stools, anorexia, nausea, weight loss, headache, vomiting, fever, heartburn, chills, mucous in stools, constipation and fatigue.

crystalsage, you mentioned black tea in the title. I can't find the bit about that, could you please direct me to where it is mentioned? Is black tea something that is meant to help or is best avoided? Thanks.

Is black tea something that is meant to help or is best avoided? Thanks. Sorry I was looking into it when I got distracted... ( life)... anyway it appears that black tea is fermented and some have problems with this...
I can drink green tea, and white tea. Last year I became aware that aspergillus, a mold family, seems to cause allergic reactions in me. I found many foods are made with this in fermented form - soy sauce/tofu/miso, the ingredient citric acid (fermented aspergillus and sugar), and black tea, among other things. Black tea is fermented green tea. White tea is very young green tea. Green tea is actually lightly fermented, but I have not found evidence that it uses aspergillus.
So it depends on the tea you drink. It could be an allergy, if you have problems with molds and your problem is black tea.
Then if you think of the candida link to most of these illnesses ..... where you need to avoid all fermented.. moldy foods...
http://www.healthyawareness.com/Archived/Tea/Why-black-tea-in-not-reccommened-with-candida-00677.htm
However a new study is all for it...
In this paper we report the results of our study of the anti-Candida activity of tea polyphenols. Methods: The effects of 4 different concentrations of catechins and theaflavins were evaluated on 5 isolates each of 5 Candida species employing an agar diffusion growth inhibition assay.

This one is interesting... I have had IBS symptoms due to the various medications I need to take. I have been suffering off and on for months.
About a month ago I started to drink medium strong black (traditional) ice tea. With in a few days of drinking about 3 quarts of ice tea per day, my IBS symptoms stopped. (Sweetened with Blue and Pink packets.)
Now I feel healthy, my system is back to normal.
I feel like a new man.
? What are the blue and pink sweeteners?
