Quote: Here ... is a description by a Peruvian youth who was captured by Amahuaca Indians of the preparation of ayahuasca by the tribal medicine man. The Amahuaca made this powerful hallucinogenic drink (also known as yagé and caapi) from the thick stems of a woody vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the leaves of a shrub (probably Diplopterys cabrerana): ...the serious preparations started, accompanied by almost continuous chanting. First the vine was cut into one-foot long pieces with the stone ax and pounded on a flat stone with a large wooden mallet until it was well mashed.

Quote: Pablo's Warning: Ayahuasca is not something to play with. It may even kill, not because it is toxic in itself, but because the body may not be able to stand the spiritual realm, the vibrations from the spirit world. Pablo said he had several frightening experiences with ayahuasca. Three times he thought he was going to die.*
One needs courage, a strong discipline, and to proceed by degrees. It is a long process that might take two or three years before one can venture into the higher realms. One needs a teacher that shows the correct procedures, and how to defend oneself against supernatural attack. But after some time, one needs to continue alone, because even one's teacher might become jealous of one's progress and could take away all one has learned. *Frightening ayahuasca experiences are quite frequent. It is common that people take ayahuasca only once, and are afraid to take it again.

There seems to be a lot of info about this plant these days. Google Ayahuasca and you'll find a variety of different documentaries about it. Don't watch them if you can't handle seeing people throwing up though... I even discovered, with much surprise, that Ayahuasca is available at my local head shop, they won't sell it to just anyone though, which I think is a good thing.
What I find most interesting is how indiginous cultures were able to figure out that the ayahuasca needed to be mixed with an MAOI inhibitor in order for the DTM to be properly digested to take effect. Although I now see that this is not always the case. In the recent Amazon documentary with Bruce Perry, he encountered one tribe that just drinks the ayahuasca without the inhibitor and they drink massive amounts of it trying to get the visions, but mostly just throw up. It seems as though there's a little broken telephone going on in the jungles of south america

Did you see the follow up episode, NM? He tries some Aya with an MAOI, and finally gets the experience he was after. It's DMT* by the way, not DTM. Just telling you in case yourself or anybody else wants to research it further.

Well, somebody is jealous...
Well done, RoseRed. I'm happy that you had a wonderful experience with it, and I hope that it taught you a lot. And oh yeah, I agree with you on the San Pedro. Very interesting and energetic high isn't it. And fairly sexual in a way as well, no? It's probably because San Pedro has a chemical in it that is similar to a hormone.
Back to Aya, could you please give us some more info on the journey you had, RoseRed? I.E. How did you take the Ayahuasca, and what was the resort like? Thanks.
