I'm old enough to remember when all the dire weather warnings were just the opposite - claims were made that the Earth is heading for an ice age. Humans were blamed. A lot of money was put into convincing everyone that we were in some deep doo. Science made the assertions based on very convincing evidence; the media ran with it. People were scared.

I have to wonder why the focus has changed - why the 'big disaster' now is purportedly "global warming". The 'evidence' used to scare people about an upcoming "ice age" is really similar to the 'evidence' used to promote the notion of "global warming" -- could it be simply because people stop being scared after a while, so a new tactic must be used?

I'm curious as to how similar evidence could be used to derive opposite results. Can you remember the details of this specific "evidence"?

Wish I could. I very recently saw an example of the "ice age" propaganda on an old "In Search Of..." episode. I know my brain registered similarities but of course it didn't retain enough to elucidate. Sorry. Should have just kept quiet on that one!

Hah, global warming my ASS, here in Chicago it's the coldest summer I've ever seen, it's the middle of june and it's barely getting above 70 OCCASIONALLY 80 degrees while the sun is shining. At night I can see my breath when it's not humid... Yeah, REALLL hot...

I can't offer any more info off the top of my head than plur can nebula, but I do have a suggestion.

You could have a look in used book stores for jr hi and hi school science texts from the late 50's and 60's. I know the So Cal schools were teaching the "ice age gonna get us!" doctrine because I was in school there at the time. As I recall, much of the "evidence" was the same as is now used to prop up the global warming theory, being our very short and data flawed contemporary record of annual temperatures, and the historical record of the same.
