Just came across this article... caused for me an instant flashback to the appletreewick orb pic and what was found from examining it.
the appletreewick writeup
the new article, in national geographic
Herewith a quote from the nat.geo. article that I thought rather pertinent and intriguing, as it seems quite relevant to the appletreewick piece, especially the speculative conclusions at the end:
Quote: The researchers' studies show that spherical and cylindrical objects coated with plasmonic shielding material produce very little light scattering. These objects, when hit by the right wavelength of light, were seen to become so small that they were almost invisible.

Yeah, no prob lucifer.
The pics used to be all indexed and listed for the site search so I didn't think it was necessary, but it looks like some of the indexing is still using the old out of date site url.
The guys in the funny outfits who seem to be doing aerobics are morris (folk) dancers, and are what the photo was about when it was taken. No one at the time had any idea the thing was there at all when the pic was taken.

But, it said the things became tiny. This thing isn't tiny.
There are things that only show up on film, tiny or not.

tiny to the eye kira, in the visible spectrum... but remember the bit about the invisible infrared and how even normal film tends to be sensitive to it?

It actually reminds me of the red disc you see in images of Isis (The deity not the forum poster )
Obviously in this case the disc is huge though. I wonder if there were/are any military bases near Applewick and this was an early prototype of the 'cloaking' technology.
I have always wondered when you get those cold shudders (like someone has walked over your grave) you are actually seeing something that is too wierd or too scary for your mind to cope with - shudders being the only effect we are left with. I think I would get this feeling if one of these objects floated (invisibly) close to me
