From The Australian News :
SCIENTISTS have created "miracle mice" that can regenerate amputated limbs or damaged vital organs, making them able to recover from injuries that would kill or permanently disable normal animals.
The experimental animals are unique among mammals in their ability to regrow their heart, toes, joints and tail.
And when cells from the test mouse are injected into ordinary mice, they too acquire the ability to regenerate, the US-based researchers say.
Their discoveries raise the prospect that humans could one day be given the ability to regenerate lost or damaged organs, opening up a new era in medicine.
Details of the research will be presented next week at a scientific conference on ageing titled Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence, at Cambridge University in Britain.

I thought this was just amazing, the implications are so enourmous it is hard to actually imagine..
And isnt it bizzare to think how someday this might actually result in parlor tricks like you mentioned
I checked the link Caige and It is still working, might be a localized network issue..

Doesn't surprise me. Some people have the ability to keep regrowing teeth, and some heart patients who have severely blocked arteries grown new vessels. In some bypass operations, they open up the patient and find that the body's already tried to grow it's own bypass.
I think we have the inherent ability in our code, it's just dormant.

I'd believe it. I was working in stucco a bit this year, and there was one day where I was shovelling it up above my head for a few hours straight. after a couple hours I had litterally grown a new band of muscle, which wasn't there in the morning, that was required for that specfic motion. I did not have any rest periods, it just grew during the work. I put myself in a medatative state at the time, since it was near the end of the day and I was tired. It really opened my eyes to what the body is capable of. I love to push it. I have on several occasions, hiked all day until I'm litterally puking form exaustion, then continue on. Once you really work on the mind over matter idea starting with your own body, its easy to see results since that is really easy to affect changes in it. I still have a long way to go though . I find the idea very interesting to say the least.

My metabolism's slowed over the years, but I used to heal about twice as quickly as a normal person, scars have completely disappeared over time, traumatic injuries have healed themselves.
I had a split knuckle in one of my toes, and it healed ok. I split the knuckle of my middle finger in a fight, and for a few years it was flat and the tendon ran around the middle of it, but over time, it looks just like all the others again.
I had 2 pronounced curves in my spinal X-ray about 4 years ago from various wrecks and injuries, and a year ago, when I had another done, it was far less pronounced. They say you go through complete cellular regeneration over a period of years for most cells, so it makes sense, if your body's working off a basic blueprint.
I just wonder why everyone can't do it.
Course, I have other issues, like asthma, high blood pressure and acid reflux, so I guess you can't have everything. Although, I completely outgrew terrible allergies, my asthma's far better than when I was younger, and my blood pressure's gone back down over the last year and a half to where I'm lower than I ever was on half the dosage I used to take. Now, if my astigmatism would just disappear, I'd be happy.
Maybe I'll be be a human starfish by the time I'm 60, and I'll be the healthiest guy to ever get run over by a garbage truck.
