2006 New Frontiers Symposium |
|
Extraterrestrial Life, Space Exploration, & The Future
By THoTH and Paul Kimball
The opening to the classic science fiction television series Star Trek began with the words, "Space... the final frontier". While certainly a ringing way to start a television show each week, its not quite correct.
In fact, there are still many "new frontiers" for humanity to explore - some of them "out there", and some of them still "down here".
The New Frontiers Symposium will present speakers who have examined various aspects of these "new frontiers", and the implications for humanitys future.
What makes this Symposium different from the others, quite simply, is its outlook. This isnt a collection of unknown speakers trotting out the same old material. This is our future that is being discussed, as well as how to smash through the old paradigms which tie us so much to the closed thinking of the last century.
Paul Kimball, the organiser, has assembled a range of speakers that will cover such diverse subjects as Cryptozoology, UFOs and the Posthuman Future.
The event will kick off with Paul introducing the speakers, followed by William Wise giving us the lowdown on Project Blue Book.
For over twenty years the U.S. Government studied the UFO phenomenon through a series of official Air Force projects often referred to collectively as Project Blue Book.
After termination, Project Blue Books files were microfilmed and made publicly available at the National Archives. Due to limitations associated with the microfilm format, however, in-depth analysis of the approximately 100,000 pages of UFO reports and administrative files has languished.
Now, thanks to the efforts of the Blue Book Archive, these same files are available to a world-wide audience via the Internet. This has enabled a new generation of researchers to better understand this intriguing period of American history. In his presentation, William Wise, the curator of the Blue Book Archive, will offer participants a brief history of Project Blue Book, an inside look at the Archive itself, and an examination of select UFO cases that highlight the contribution the Archive has already made to recent research and analysis.
Next up on the podium is the established UFO and Cryptozoology researcher Nick Redfern. His subject will be "In Search of Strange Creatures"
Nick has chased Chupacabras in Puerto Rico, Bigfoot in the forests of North America, lake monsters in England, and an assortment of other weird beasts, including werewolves, the Goat-Man of Texas, and ghostly black dogs. In an illustrated lecture he takes us on a cryptrozoological road-trip into the unknown.
Nick never fails to impress at any of the conferences hes been to, and is not shy of controversy, offering perhaps the most unique explanation of the Roswell case to date.
Following Nick is Mac Tonnies, who will be speaking about the Posthuman Future.
"The human race is on the verge of becoming radically different as physical impossibilities are dissolved by exponentiating advances in cybernetics and genetic engineering. Assuming we survive our technological adolescence, we will almost certainly adopt new ways of doing things . . . ways that, for all intents and purposes, can be considered alien..."
Macs presentation takes a look at our potential for self-mutation and the prospect of becoming a multi-planet species, drawing inferences that colour popular expectations of what extraterrestrial intelligences might be like.
To let your mind rest after this deluge of new and exciting concepts, lunch will follow, to soak up your digestive appetite, while your knowledge appetite will no doubt increase exponentially for the afternoons speakers.
First up will be Greg Bishop, who will be sharing his views on "The Contactee Movement", which has always been a highly controversial area of research. Greg will delve into peoples claims that they have had direct contact with beings not of this planet, and present his conclusions based on years of research.
Whether you accept the notion of alien abduction and contact or not, the subject will fascinate with its myriad of experience and wisdom delivered in Gregs inimitable style.
Following Greg will be the event organiser himself, Paul Kimball. Pauls presentation will cover some of the best UFO cases, based on the evidence.
Everyone loves a Top 10 list-- it gets people talking around the water cooler the next morning! Paul Kimballs upcoming documentary for Canadian and New Zealand television, "Best Evidence: Top 10 UFO Cases", brings this approach to the subject of the UFO phenomenon for the first time, in a serious and groundbreaking film.
Bringing the subject of UFOs down to earth once and for all, "Best Evidence: Top 10 UFO Cases" will act as a clarion call for the renewal of the serious study of the UFO phenomenon. The film will not embrace any particular explanation for the phenomenon (ETH, EDH, time travel), but rather will simply present the best evidence for the objective reality of the phenomenon-- and then let the viewer make his or her own judgments.
A much needed film and Paul is here to provide us with all the information about it.
Youll have 10 minutes after Pauls presentation to gather your thoughts, after which the "Godfather of UFOlogy", Stanton T. Friedman, will take his place on the podium. No one on the lecture circuit has spoken more often, or spent more time researching the subject of UFOs, than Stanton Friedman. Hes won awards for lifetime research, and his presentations are not to be missed. To give some idea, Stanton was part of the official Symposium held in 1968 as requested by the US Government, in which the likes of Carl Sagan and other major figures expressed their views.
Truly monumental in information, and a always a real delight to watch, Stanton will be discussing "Flying Saucers and Physics".
Stanton received B.Sc and M.Sc degrees in physics from the University of Chicago in 1955 and 1956. He was employed for 14 years as a nuclear physicist for such companies as GE, GM, Westinghouse, TRW Systems, Aerojet General Nucleonics, and McDonnell Douglas on such advanced, classified, eventually cancelled, projects as nuclear aircraft, fission and fusion rockets, and nuclear powerplants for space.
With that background, he is eminently qualified to discuss "the role of Physics in terms of explaining why the rules of Physics are more than ample to encompass the UFO Phenomenon. One of the most frequently expressed objections to my conclusion that some UFOs are intelligently controlled Extraterrestrial spacecraft is that, for that to be true, the laws of physics would supposedly have to be violated". Stanton demonstrates that these arguments are false.
"Specifically we hear that it would take too much energy to get to another galaxy, that it would take far too long because of the limits set by relativity, that the atmospheric behavior clearly would require the ability to withstand far more acceleration that man can withstand. Rarely do the objectors refer to data and evidence, but instead they are satisfied with proclamations". Those proclamations will be burst with ease during Stantons presentation, which is not to be missed.
After all that, youll be ready for a break to rest your mind with its new influx of information, there will be a two hour break, to rest, feed, ponder and absorb.
The last speaker of the day will be Robert Zimmerman. Robert is an award-winning space historian, writing articles and books on issues of science, history, technology, and culture. His most recent book, "Leaving Earth: Space Stations, Rival Superpowers, and the Quest for Interplanetary Travel", was awarded the Eugene M. Emme Award by the American Astronautical Society for the best popular space history in 2003.
Sir Arthur C. Clarke called Leaving Earth "... one of the best and certainly the most comprehensive summary of our drive into space that I have ever read." In 2000 Zimmerman was co-winner of the David N. Schramm Award, given by the High Energy Astrophysic Division of the American Astronomical Society for Science Journalism.
Roberts presentation is entitled "Stories from Space: The Difference Between Success and Failure", in which he will share tales from the history of Space Exploration, and reveal some startling facts, including (a) the tale of a Russian cosmonaut who once did a three hour spacewalk with a spacesuit held together by duct tape and thread, (b) the story of the first female tourist in space, who actually flew more than fifteen years ago, and (c) the fact that the first spacecraft to fly in space twice was NOT the space shuttle!
Colonizing the planets shall be the most challenging task the human race will ever undertake. In telling some of these obscure space tales, as well as the major successes, Robert will explain why they are important for future space explorers, and how they will help them overcome the challenges yet to come.
To round off the evening, all of the speakers will be present on stage for a questions and answers session, of which there will, no doubt, be several by that point.
This event cannot be missed! Do whatever you can to be there, as it will change your outlook, empower you with the new knowledge, and prepare you for an era of history which will be characterised by our shedding of old fashioned notions and principles in favour of an enlightened future, where humanitys place in the cosmos is radically redefined, and our reality clarified.
